Article marketing is definitely still a viable source for good traffic. It just takes alot of work. If you're afraid of work, this might not be the right field for you. I generally try and write all my own articles then submit them to 10 or so directories. I try and get them in to the "big guys".(hubpages, ezine, squidoo)

Don't try and rehash old content. Try and put a spin on whatever you do. That way your articles won't be a waste of time. I don't use automation software for submitting either.

Also, some might say article marketing is dead. Not true. It's more difficult than it used to be, but definitely still a great source of traffic. The best? Depends on you. Everyone is going to have their own opinion on what is "best". Just get to writing! The traffic may not be a landslide, but it will come if you give legitimate value. Give it time.

Sorry, but this is absolutely dreadful advice. It's completely misguided, for all sorts of reasons.

Partly just the fact that article directories don't "have PR". Article directories are websites. Websites don't "have PR". Only pages have PR. However high the page rank of an article directory's own home page, its own home page isn't where your articles, or mine, are published: they go on their own, newly formed PR-0 page. How could it possibly be otherwise?

Only two of the top ten on that list are actually article directories!

It's dreadfully out of date. Some of them don't exist any more. Some were never article directories. Some of the ones that used to be article directories now have a completely different business model. I appreciate that you meant well, by posting it here, but the reality is that it's just misinformation, I'm afraid.

Article submission sites which are not directories have totally different purposes, functions and acceptance criteria. The ways one can use them to help one's business are completely different, but that list just mixes them all up - directories and non-directories together. :rolleyes:

Specifically, nobody should imagine that trying to use article directories "to attract potential customer traffic" is a good or sensible thing to do: it's actually a complete misuse of article directories: not only won't it help your business, but it can even actively damage it, for all the reasons explained in this post.

Hope you can get your articles on the Home Page of those websites, since it is the only place that number really counts. Also, not all article directories.

Justin is right, what most people think is article marketing to me is just article directory spamming. YES! ok...ok.... it will bring in some traffic for you. But after all the panda slaps, and google birdie flips at you this is not the best way to handle article marketing now a days. So it is time to step up to the plate.

The definition of article marketing for me is getting your article syndicated or guest posted on a high traffic blog or blog with HIGH PR value. That will get lookers and lookers can sometimes become buyers. Especially if they are targeted. So that is what you should be asking yourself.......ok self.... i have this article, but if I put it out there on a article directory it is not being read by the right people..... CORRECT!

So what you want to do, and what gets teh best results for us, is to make friends with those in higher places in your niches, trade journals, websites, forums, online communities, offline communities, magazines, newsletters, trade fairs, conventions, snail mail, facebook groups, ezine editors, press release houses, etc etc.

You need to get your article read by these people, so they can share it directly to those highly targeted people who are your most likely customer. This has been working for us since 2010 and blows BUM MARKETING tactics out of the water by 1000000000%

Yes it takes a bit of work, but if you release high quality articles, and form relationships in the right area and niches that can be priceless for you. What I just describe is what I would call ARTICLE MARKETING....getting a ****ty spun article and spamming that to 50 top article sites is just article directory spamming.

Remember these three things....

1) High Quality content - Your article must be 800 - 1000 words and top notch.

2) Look for places that have lots of traffic, well know, and you can form relationships with the owners.

3) Think targeted traffic, Targeted traffic each and every day. 10 people reading your article in well syndicated media is far better than 1000 people reading your article on goarticles or article base, because they are not targeted avenues really.

All in all, what you are doing with article directories is hoping and praying you will get targeted readers who read, subscribe to your site and may eventually buy something, if you do everything right.

With article syndication and guest posting on high ranking blogs you are doing the hard work for these owners looking for good content. You are going to them, and offering the articles as long as they reference you and send people to your site. So for this prevalige you must make sure you are giving good value and high quality content.

Phew, a mouthful, but hopefully I cleared that up. Once you learn how to do article marketing (syndication) properly it will change your business like it did for us.

*Sigh* Looks like this is going to be that thread to watch for misinformation today guys. You're talking Article Directory Marketing, and it doesn't work. This isn't an ideological stance either. It just. Doesn't. Work:

1. The backlinks are utterly worthless.
2. Any traffic you do get, is made worthless by the plethora of leaks that exist on any article directory page.

I have just try those automated tools for about 2 months ago, and still no significant changes in my traffic.... anyone knows why ?

Well this is true at least, although the links are more of a happy side effect than a main benefit.

The only people who assert that article marketing doesn't work are the ones who don't know what it is. They tend to be thinking of article directory marketing. To see what article marketing is really about, read this.


Ah, so you were speaking of article directory marketing. Well, this point is wrong in about a million and one ways. The links that you get from submitting your articles are worthless. You'd get more for your time by spending the day on Netflix. When done correctly, Article Marketing is about quality.
