Is Facebook the future?

i use facebook to collect leads.. facebook is a great concept.

but there is no guarantee that facebook is the future.. facebook is just the beginning of social media.. everyday people are working on new concepts..

when Mark started facebook project we dont even know there is a facebook

.

so... may be there is another social networking website is in it's way..

also Google working hard on G+ right now.. also in future we can see some facebook products too.. like facebook phone or something...

YES facebook is the future.

google was the last 10 years social media is the next.

When facebook launches its search engine it will be filled with the most valuable information possible in searches "social proof"

This is why google is desperate to get google+ up and running because they are at a huge disadvantage.

If google loses the mobile device wars and facebook launches a successful search engine google could be a very secondary company very quickly, much like bing is at the moment.

I believe that they can connect and dominate the complete markewt with no interruptions. In this case, these two competitors together can change the way the world is socializing.

Facebook is the future, definitely. But with Google, they can be the Internet's God.

What's your thoughts, and are you making any money off Facebook yet?

Facebook just keeps getting better and better each day. I'm not sure why Google wants to be Facebook, and why Facebook wants to be Google.

Facebook has definitely got momentum in what they do already, so maybe they have a future assured there. What's less certain is if they are THE future.

You only have to look at Pinterest to see a different approach to social (the gathering of things not people) to see that FB isn't everything to all people.

The big challenge will come when they really have to start justifying themselves to shareholders. The demand for regular quarterly cash and growth has made many a company change focus and in the social space they will have to tread really carefully not to monetize too hard!

Watch this space, oh and keep an eye out for the disruptive mobile solution that trashes both FB and Google that comes from nowhere

Google wants to be Facebook because "social proof" is the future of serp. Think of it this way if you are searching for a los angeles area dog trainer do you want the one with the most spam links or do you want the one that several people in your circle of "friends" have used and recommended. Google has one, Facebook has the other.

Facebook wants to be Google becaise google makes about 9 billion dollars a year almost all from search engine advertising.

  I think Facebook will start to go on a slight decline in the next 5 years. Yes, they keep making positive changes and they seem to stay ahead of the ball. But I feel a new competitor will emerge.

I'm sure in a few years something else will come along. What's important (to me) is that Facebook is definitely the present and I don't see it going away anytime soon. However, that day will come and when it does, I shall be ready to embrace whatever is the present, at the time.

As far as making money goes, I make money from Facebook. I sell Facebook services to clients and Facebook is also my #1 source of traffic at the moment. If you know how to work it, Facebook can be quite profitable. However, I never rely on just one source for traffic and/or revenue. Google sends me good traffic too, just not as much as Facebook.

While it may not be the long term future, it is definitely the near term future. The internet is constantly changing. Google and Facebook dominate both their primary areas of internet expertise but who is to say that will not change in future.

All in all, it is currently a good way for IMers to make money and will continue to be that way way for a little while still.

As we all know just because someone is the 'future" now doesn't mean they will always be

Look at AOL who dominated the first Internet gold rush - all but gone and forgotten

Look At Myspace who decimated "Friendster" in the first wave of Social networking websites

Look at the search engine Lycos - gone as well

How we consume content changes over time - quality content and services will last the test of time

I don't think so. The stock market flop wasn't very surprising to me. The majority of people on there are still just sharing funny cat pictures and feeble minded attempts at viral quips with the occasional argument over nothing among family and local plans for the weekend.

No doubt there is traffic there but I personally don't think Facebook will be able to hold the market with the same grip once they make bold moves towards more monetizing. Which is undoubtedly their goal and probably right around the corner...again. Once they get completely up in your face with ads, I think many will leave Facebook and seek the next one that boasts "ad free"

I think it is interesting to consider how AOL started out and that people were paying right out of the gate. Facebook started free and easy to use, if that changes in any way, I predict a big decline

  Facebook is definately not the future.. It might be the stepping stone for the rise of other social networking website.. Still, I tink among all, facebook is still the best.. LOL.. Still, i dont understand y they disable FBML.. Isnt it great for making home pages?

Google and Facebook seem to be treading on its others shoes quite a bit.

After all said and done, when you ask the average person on the street what each one is, I suspect you will get 2 answers a "search engine" and "social networking site"

people go on facebook because they are bored.

how many facebook accounts are from the same individuals? Personally, I think I have 6 or 8 facebooks accounts, and I know Im not the only one. I'm sure many marketeers have dozens of facebook personalities to promote their niches.

I think much of facebook's value is based on inflated projections. Isn't that what happened diring the dot-com bubble over a decade ago?

sure, facebook is a neat little network that connects friends and family. but once you start getting littered with advertisements, it starts to lose its appeal.

that and our current state of economy promote the concept of what facebook offers. many unemployed bored people believe they are accomplishing something by posting there latest drama, or where they had dinner for the world to see.

facebook has spread like a meme, and all memes eventually die. but at their peak you're considered out of the loop if you don't jump aboard.

I'm not saying facebook will die, but it will reach its peak soon if it already hadn't.

You have to look at much of facebooks projected value as marketing material for the venture capitalists to increase their profit when they went public. and any press releases now are mainly to increase the perceived future value of the company to attract shareholders.

There's no guarantee with technology.

The future will always be "understanding human nature and what makes people buy".

Facebook is just another great tool that has appeared. Just like Pinterest has opened up yet more possibilities.

But in the end, I would base my skills and learning in pure direct response marketing. As for new avenues to advertise like Facebook, I'm about learning just enough to understand how it can help my business before outsourcing the work.
