Which Wordpress Spam Filter to Use

Hi
Over the last month my wordpress site has been hit by a huge amount of spam comments which has sent traffic to my site through the roof, but all of it useless traffic.
I have now added the Akismet API key as this was not set up and removed all the spam comments.
What other spam filter plugin should I use to stop spammy comments on my site?

Thanks
Joner

Bad Behaviour WordPress › Bad Behavior « WordPress Plugins complements Akismet perfectly. With both activated you will see your spam count drop to near-zero.

I use Akismet. Work really well.

@themarketingguy I'll have to check 'Bad Behavior' out.

    Hi,

I use Askimet and it works fine. There are many others to choose from that all seem to do the same thing.

    cheers

I recommend that you disable the comments and only allow comments that are posted by the Admin (you)

I use Akismet and WP Content Filter with a big list of "bad" words I downloaded from the internet, to filter out from comments.

There is nothing more annoying that waking up to find emails in your inbox of people posting spam to your blog..They don't even make their posts look legit most of the time!

And as others before me have said: Akismet..

Akismet is my choice also and i believe it is the one wordpress initially comes with and it is really simple to set up the api, a simple search like "askimet api setup" in google should tell you all you need to know, askimet definitely has my vote. hope this helps

Well definitely Akismet as that catches most spam just as everybody has said and I also use Growmap Anti Spambot Plugin from Andy Bailey. I used to use another plugin to stop bots even registering on the site but it stopped working with one of the WP updates.

I have been using GASP for the past year and it works great for me. It might miss a few comments here or there, however, Askimet was overzealous for me on comments. Too many good comments were flagged. Plus, GASP is easy for commenters, since all they have to do is check a button.

    Thanks everyone for your advice.
Seems general consensus is that Akismet is good enough on it's own. Great to know.

    Thanks again

I use NoSpamNX and it works really well. For really persistent comment spammers, IP Filter does a great job.

NoSpamNX stops bot spam before comments are left - I was sick of having to go through the Askimet created spam list - just took too much time and sometimes it caught real comments too.

I recommend you to use Akismet and Conditional CAPTCHA. Conditional captcha is needed when legitimate comment from user is marked as spam by Akismet. So, you will not lose real comment from your visitor if Akismet marks them as spam.

These two plugins can be useful to you...
    A. Akismet...
    Protects against known spammers.

    B. Math comment spam...
Users needs to answer a simple math question befor ecommenting, like 4+9=13.
This literally eliminares 95% of all bot spam to your website.
