What can i offer to promote my website

Hi guys,

i recently set up a forum based around Internet Marketing. I will not name it as i have no intention of competing or promoting with/on the Warrior Forum.

Any of you that have worked with Forums before will know that getting people to start discussion is very hard at the beginning. I would like to bring more people to the site but i am looking for something new to offer them which will make them want to take part in active discussion. Does anyone have any ideas, i like the idea of competitions however i would then have the issue of promoting the actual competition.

Im just looking for some tips on what i could actually offer to entice people to my site.

Thanks,
-Michael

I've never started a forum, but I have heard before that some people that start forums create 30 accounts themselves and start creating fake conversations to get the ball rolling. It sounds a little fishy, but starting a forum from scratch is hard because people want to be part of an active crowd. Also if your "fake conversations" give out valuable info that people want to read I don't see what harm it could do

Thank you for the tip Mosa, i have thought abotu doing this and may do so, the only issue with that is there would still be the issue of getting people to the site in the first place.

      Thanks,
      -Michael

Not necessarily, Forum posts rank highly in search engines pretty quickly so depending on your niche and your choice of keywords in your titles/content you could have visitors gathering in no time....

Yes make a few posts yourself or visit sites such as microworkers and pay someone to make the posts for you cheaply, you just send them simple instructions (you can add hundreds quickly with this method if you have a couple of $$ spare).

My advice to you Micheal would be to get a forum poster software an email generator and whip in some useful and helpful comments/posts to help in your productivity.

    Hope this helps

Well lets consider what attracts the general public to forums.

I will tell you what ALWAYS works for me, to attract me that is I've never created a forum myself. It is ALWAYS, and nothing other than, the CONTENT on the forum.

Usually in the form of discussions between highly educated members in a given niche.

Every single forum I have stuck to long term, has been because there were either some incredible stickies on the forum, or incredible discussions, but most of the time both.

One way to initiate this process would be to pay talented writers within your niche. Expensive? Sure. But its what some of the best forum owners have done to get loads of traffic.

Here is a specific example for you.

Steroid.com. Not the most ethical place in the world but has a reputation unlike many other bodybuilding forums.

One of the reasons is the owner paid a guy by the name of Anthony Roberts, to write INCREDIBLE stickies for the forum. They dedicated an entire subsection to the forum dedicated to steroids. What Anthony Roberts did however was he wrote some of the best known articles on hundreds of different compounds.

People know till this day, if you are going to cycle ANY steroid, steroid.com is the place to go for accurate & informative information. This created a very powerful foundation for those forums, which inspired more people to come in and write articles about how to cycle properly.

So I have to say content will always have a lot to do with it. I also noticed it took them about a decade to really become the biggest steroid forum on the net, so I'm not saying any of this will be easy. I will depend on your niche and your resources imo.

I'm trying to give you realistic advice here as a newbie, which can be hard to do, but I really think you need to start getting some INCREDIBLE articles/stickies on your forum. They need to be original, and contain information they can NOT be obtained anywhere else. For instance, I could go to wilkepedia for steroid information, but steroid.com destroys the quality of their articles.

Thats why I say just get someone to write you some mind blowing stickies, then promote the stickies on social websites. This may help give you a nice influx of traffic. I've never done it before, but I have seen numerous forums use this technique.

    Goodluck - Red

    Another suggestion...

post a lot of freebies/ giveaway and have a strong SEO.

Held competitions are good move also: Shopify did this to attract vendors to their platform. “The Start-up’s Secret Weapon: Contests” or “How to Turn $100K into $12,000,000″
