no it's not, it's a social text media to chat with other people - just like SMS... if you don't like the ppl pushing out stuff, dont follow them.

I realized my response was rather opinionated and harsh...I'd like to correct that.

Here is what Twitter means to me:

Connectedness, tuning into a stream of social chatter and consciousness, connecting with others. I don't want to get too metaphysical, but it reminds me that everyone is connected in some way and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

I think it depends on the person who is using Twitter. Some creates multiple profiles on Twitter, in a hope of "capturing marketing share and driving traffic".

I don't think this is the right way to use Twitter.

Personally, I use Twitter to network, share information & news, as well as to build my reputation as a marketer.

No, I believe it's not. In fact, more and more business icons are using it and gaining a lot. I also heard Guy Kawasaki is making some money from ads, but I still need to confirm that though.

I think it is getting more and more spammy. If you don't like what's coming your way, stop follow them. Easy Peasy.

Yeah I guess it is only SPAM when you follow the wrong things. However it is certainly an evolving business model and in a years time it may be unrecognizable to today

I recently joined twitter and I'm not really sure what it's about. I notice a lot of people put links to blog articles they wrote or possibly affiliate sites. I don't really have time to figure it out 100%, but there must be something to it. I know a bunch of people are following me and I don't know why. I usually just say something about how I'm drinking a great cup of coffee or something

Not hardly. Well, the clueless ones spam but you just don't follow them. Meanwhile, others are fully engaged in the virtual cocktail party an have a fun and fruitful time.

I've personally set up several JVs and been invited onto radio and TV interviews exclusively through meetings and interactions through Twitter.

Twitter seems to be a very powerful place to interact and build a following. Of course there's spam too, but that doesn't make it a bad place.

I understand many marketers are doing very well on Twitter right now.

Most people just like to push their own garbage. Very few actually interact with others. Although I really like Twitter, I'm starting to think that it is a playground for attention seekers.

I think that some people get on there and just spam out their links, but it is not all bad. I wish these people understood that this is hurting them more than it is helping. They need to build relationships, and if some one is interested then they will ask. That or they will go into your profile and click the link there. I don't think that throwing your link out and not building a presence will get you anywhere.

As far as the ones that are spamming, just unfollow them. I think it can be a powerful tool, so I would not give up on it. But yeah, I am babbling, . This is my take on Twitter.

Its certainly a way to update people on a regular basis in regards to their business or social interests, much like text messaging. I generally use Twitter to network with others and share information & news, as well as to build my reputation as a marketer. Some seem to put their URL links in, but to me that feels like "forcing" things on other people, but some swear by it though!

  • Twitter is a great way to interact and meet people of the same interest.

It ranks 332 in alexa meaning its not a business experiment anymore :-).... The website gets tons of new users daily. Numbers are only going up.

Its not a spam feast, although there are many people who do go about making accounts for the sole purpose of attracting attention to their offers, these people quickly find out that they are not benefiting as much as they thought they would.

You can make your business thrive from Twitter, but you need to do it the right way. Build a social network, and eventually that network will notice your services and come to you asking for your services.

I use Ping.fm / Update all of your social networks at once! which is great. Using that my micro blogs, updates or whatever you call them go out to Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, Google Chat, Friendfeed, Flickr, Hi 5, Yahoo 360, Plurk, LinkedIn, Bebo & Delicious. Plus, there's a whole bunch more I haven't got around to signing up with yet. The great thing is, I send these out from ping.fm on my phone, so I don't even need to be logged into any of those sites. Although I sometimes get people replying on Myspace, some on Facebook, some on Twitter.

A great side benefit of ping.fm is that if you include a url to a new site in your update/micro blog, that site will be indexed almost immediately.

Definitely saves a lot of time getting your message to a bunch of these social sites.

How many of you Twitter users actually RT for others, reply to @'s, and pay attention to what other people ask for?

      I'm betting very few.

Are you kidding? That's about all I do.

Twitter is like anything else - there are people on there with the sole purpose of lazily trying to make money.

These people think that people on twitter are 'searching for stuff' - which is just wrong, and they also have the "it's a numbers game" mindset and think that getting 1000 twitter accounts and hooking up reams of repeating quotes and links is the way to maximize twitter.

They also find they have lots of their accounts banned regularly.

Twitter does have a lot of spammers, but it's not a spamfest unless you're on there trying to abuse it and you follow the spammers yourself.

I love Twitter - I've got just about every benefit you can imagine from it.

All my favourite marketing buddies are on there and I keep finding new ones all the time. Most decent Warriors are on there.

        It's great.

Twitter is like the rest of the world - you see what you focus on. If you're a spammer and you use it in a spammy way - you'll see a lot of spam.

If you use it to connect with people and start/build/maintain relationships - it's excellent.

I used it to send fellow warriors traffic to their new product launches, I even retweet other peoples recommendations (and leave their affiliate links in).

If you use Twitter with an abundant and positive relationship-building mindset, you'll love it.

If you use Twitter as a side-action for promotional effect only, you'll absolutely reduce its potential effect for you.

In short - Twitter is what you make it.

        That is my primary focus..

RT'ing, reply to @messages and joining in with conversations is the best way to use Twitter..imho.

It's one big party, that happens to turn very profitable if used "correctly". I understand that each persons definition of correctly will be different.. I was only talkin' about how I use it..

I use Twitter to see what those I respect are doing. I keep in touch with those who are interested in my articles using Twitter because it is simple and fun to do so this way.

I frequently @reply to those I am following and use this to stimulate conversation and of course, a business relationship with others.

I make my living off Twitter - and I don't do it by spamming. I go on there and reply to people, post tweets about what I am working on, tweet links to helpful posts on my blog about press releases, ask questions, etc. This morning I am writing two press releases for clients I found on Twitter - at $150 per press release - and sending out a third press release for a client I found on Twitter.

If someone is sending out nothing but spammy annoying links, un-follow them.

"If someone is sending out nothing but spammy annoying links, un-follow them. "

In that vein, I always eyeball the actual posts of anyone who follows me - if it's nothing but links to things I'm not interested in, they're not getting followed.

I also think it may not be wise to have money making or other phrases in your name - I know I usually don't follow back those that do.

I generally only use my twitter for my personal stuff and my comic stuff, so my perspective might be different.

    'fest' - Yes

    'spam' - NO

EVEN IF spam is defined as anything "unsolicited",
Twitter is still the ULTIMATE "permission based"
    medium for communication/marketing.

Those that spam on Twitter soon find that they are talking to themselves.

The biggest benefit of Twitter is the ability to choose who you follow or unfollow. If someone keeps posting things you don't like. Unfollow and move on.

If used correctly, Twitter can be a very powerful tool. You can even intergrate Twitter with other sites like Facebook and Wordpress.

If you choose to ignore Twitter that is fine.

If you a new to Twitter and want to learn how to use it correctly
then go to amazon or your local bookstore and Get Joel Comm's Power Twitter book.

It has been getting a lot of press lately from the cable news shows and comedy central. I don't use it, it feels like a watered down version of myspace/facebook. So if myspace and facebook works for you, I'm sure twitter will too.

Control is completely in your hands - you can choose to follow or not follow.

There is some terrific infromation trading hands - experiences, tools, references to quality sites and relevant stories - AND you can network with just about anybody including some of the top names in your niche (whereas you wouldn't be able to get at them with email or over the phone).

All in who you follow and how you choose to use it.

I'm fairly new on Twitter and so far it seems to be equally as spammy as anything else. We'll always have to deal with those who just don't get it when it comes to using these types of tools correctly & effectively.

It depends on the people you're following. I have noticed that a lot of people in the "internet marketing/online biz opp" niche tend to post nothing but links and seemingly no human interaction at all. But there are also people (probably the bulk of Twitter users) who just use it as tool to have conversations with people.

I honestly see no point in Twitter.

The people I want to be in touch with are already in my Facebook.

    I don't like their terminology either: "Follow/Follower"

There are less than 2 people on this planet I would actually like to "follow"

Twitter, to me, has a very 'guru' mentality - perfect for the directionless hoard.
