Greetings!

New to the site and I must say that this forum looks like a great place for people to learn more about Online marketing.

As I have stated in the title, I am a college student and am interested in Affiliate Marketing as a job. I have a lot of free time in my hands in the coming semester, so I'd like to know how I could start.

Likewise, I am willing to do what is needed to get a start in Affiliate Marketing, I just need some help in moving in the right direction.

I'm impressed that you actually did it.

Get yourself a hosting account if you don't already (though you could use free wordpress sites in a pinch)

Learn about the different affiliate platforms available to you such as Clickbank, Amazon, Share-A-Sale, etc..

Learn how to identify evergreen products that have a manageable level of competition (niche research)

Pick a product you want to promote and figure out how to send targeted buyers to the offer. (on your website, twitter, paid traffic... whatever)

This is totally basic, but if you are brand new, it'll keep you plenty busy for a while

Welcome to the forum. If you are interested in getting a job straight away and you are a decent writer, sign up to one of the article writing services (do a search on the forum/Google) as an author.

In terms of learning about affiliate marketing, you can get a good foundation by checking out the challenge and affilorama. This will give you an overview of affiliate marketing in an organised and well taught manner.

I recently graduated from college, am a part-time teacher, and make part of my income online, and part of that income through affiliate marketing. It's a great way to go, especially if you're overseas.

One thing I'd highly encourage is that as you get further into things, make sure you don't get so much information that you don't actually take action. I did that early on and too much training never gets you anywhere.

Also, look for anything you can that is free, or else you'll end up spending all kinds of money on training, products, sites, etc., and again, not be anywhere in terms of making money at the end of the day.

Keep things simple, try to keep things as free as possible early on, and when you learn how to do something new, take action right away.

    Hey there,

First thing I suggest is to not focus on how much money you can make selling other peoples stuff. That will come, but I suggest you build one or maybe several sites if you have the time..sites that are loaded with killer content. Start with a niche that you are interested in or have knowledge in if you can, but it's not necessary. Then, start building pages using Wordpress or a good site builder program.

Focus on killer content that is better than your competitors. It's actually quite easy, and fun, but it takes time.

After you start getting traffic then you can start capturing that traffic using a lead capture form and autoresponder where you will then send quality information again, to your list. After 5 - 7 quality emails send them an offer or review a product (affiliate link). Or better yet, create your own product and keep all the money.

    Hope that helps.

With all honesty affiliate marketing is just like going to school. You need to train your mind into thinking how an affiliate marketer does and you need to teach yourself many methods that are always changing. You should have a basic understand of how SEO works and what it is along with how to drive traffic to pages you create.

Totally agree. Many people say affiliate marketing is the easiest way to make money online. But like anything else, it's only easy if you know how to do it. Affiliate marketing has a much lower entry barrier compared to say creating your own product. As a result, competition is fierce. Among others, driving high converting traffics to your affiliate pages will be extremely tough (depending on your niche).

I have studied some of Tellman Knudson's courses and I think I like his advice that don't even think of creating your own product until you have made at least $1000,000 selling other people's products, better still good quality PLR Products as you get to keep all the money.

Someone mentioned to avoid too much training without taking action and I think that's a great point.

The theory is you need a product to sell and a hungry market to sell to which should be nice and easy really, the only trouble is when it comes to generating the right kind of traffic, again someone mentioned once you learn a strategy, apply it straight away. One wants to be very focused as well so you don't get distracted by the numerous shiny strategies out there.

Let us know how you get on please.

Starting an Internet business can be easy to do - but you do have to learn the skills. I talk about how affiliate marketing and email marketing fit together here... Hope it helps.

For most people, the most difficult part of getting started in the online business world is finding good information that will educate them on the subject in a way they UNDERSTAND.

You have to learn and understand the new skillsets specific to your chosen business model if you really want to succeed.

Learning and understanding new material specific to your business model is where most people fall short, though not through lack of effort or intelligence.

To get started online and ultimately achieve success, you must UNDERSTAND how your business actually works - and most resources out there don't really answer that question.

If you want to know how to start and run an Internet business that will last in the long term, LEARNING and UNDERSTANDING how affiliate marketing and email marketing work and fit together is absolutely essential.

This is a LONG-TERM passive income business model and it works like this:

You choose a product that already exists (a product someone else has created) and promote it (advertise it) to people who are subscribed to your email mailing list.

When people on your email mailing list buy the product you are promoting, you make a commission (usually around 50%).

So, affiliate marketing is when you advertise other people's products and collect a commission when the products sell.

Email marketing is when you advertise these products to your personal email mailing list.

When you advertise other people's products to your mailing list and the products sell, you make money.

Learning the business model of affiliate marketing through email promotion is one of the most sustainable and easy methods if you are interested in learning how to start and run an Internet business.

To build your email mailing list, you must first build a ONE-PAGE website called a SQUEEZE PAGE where visitors can OPT-IN and join your mailing list.

These squeeze pages usually offer FREE gifts as incentives to join the list - FREE gifts that offer the visitor real VALUE.

Once a visitor joins, they are given their FREE gifts.

Later, an email is sent to them describing a product that might solve a problem or fulfill a need they might have.

The actual running of this type of Internet business is very simple - every so often you just have to find products to promote to your list and write emails that describe their benefits.

You also have to drive traffic (or get people to go to) your squeeze page to get people to sign up in the first place.

To recap, the affiliate marketing and email marketing business model for an Internet business works like this:

          1. You have to build a one-page website called a squeeze page that offers a free gift as an incentive for people to join your mailing list. The subject matter of the squeeze page will have something to do with what you will ultimately be promoting to your mailing list.

          2. You have to choose an affiliate product to promote to your email mailing list. This is called becoming an affiliate.

          3. You have to drive traffic to your squeeze page so that people see what you have to offer and will join your mailing list.

          4. Every so often you have to find new products to promote to your list.

*The emails that are sent out to your list are not sent by you personally - they are sent out periodically by your AUTORESPONDER.

Your autoresponder is linked with your squeeze page and knows when someone joins. The autoresponder already has all the emails written (you have to write them and load them into it) and sends them to your mailing list at specific time intervals.

If you really want to learn how to start and run an Internet business, you will have to learn how all of this works.

          To your success,

          Daniel

Hey, firstly well done with taking action regarding your username at beginning of this thread! That's the sign of someone who is serious about their business, and the type of person I like to work with.

The best piece I can offer you right now is - Don't try to learn everything at once. You'll end up confused (trust me I made that mistake, wasn't pretty) Once you have chosen your affiliate product think about just one method of promotion there's lots to choose from (ppc, social media, blogging, articles, forumss, etc) Learn and implement as much as yoy can about that ONE method, until your proficient and getting steady leads/sales. Then, and only then, move on too a second and so on.

Hope that helps a little, good luck in your new business.

    Liza

A lot of good advice there. I am going to say something that goes against what I lot of people say and teach but I am looking at it from the perspective of you sticking with this and being successful long term and that is to find a niche that you actually enjoy. Lot's of people say just focus on the money in the niche but I say to find something you are passionate about first and then do some analysis to find out if there is money in it.

The two have to be in place for most people to be successful at this. That is one of the reaons why, IMHO most people fail at this.

    Hope that helps.

Well the first step in affiliate marketing is learning how to build a list.

Do a search for how to do this in the warrior forum - you will find everything you need here whether it's a paid or free resource.

    Hope that helps!

Hi I am new to this Forum but not online, I suggest finding decent products and sending plenty of highly targeted traffic to that offer.

I would do this via your own website which is built around the market that the products you are trying to sell are in, and offers advice on how they work, the benefits and what sort of results people can expect.

You can also offer bonuses to those that buy from your affiliate link.

Make sure they also have to subscribe to your list to get the bonuses you offer, this will enable you to keep them updated in future and offer more product along the same lines.

Research everything you can about PPC. No matter what anyone says PPC would be the largest traffic source you'll have for a long long time. Don't jump in head first without a ton of research first though. You can get burned easy.

He hasn't been on for almost a week. Maybe he is doing the things advised in this thread. Good for him.

The number one advice I can give is have tunnel vision. Focus on one thing, and do it well. Just know that the method works. Once you know the method works, try it at different angles, until you find the "Goldilocks" area. Then scale it up. Done.

There's a great free resource called the challenge that will teach you about SEO. Here's the link: The Challenge

Also, pay the $35 so you can get access to the War Room. There is a wealth of knowledge there.

If you're interested in some passive online income streams, PM when you get enough posts or just leave a visitor message on my profile. I don't want this post to be a plug for things that are working for me, because some people get the idea that I'm just trying to refer people the programs I'm involved...which I kind of am, because they work, and I've been screwed into buying terrible bogus products. But I think anyone who has made it online has paid their dues in that regard. So, f you're interested in what I'm doing, I'd be very excited and willing to help you.
