Hello warriors! I'm still somewhat a newbie to this forum, but I wanted to give everyone some advice that I've learned through my failures.

I've been trying to "make money online" for 4 years now, and I made little bits here and there, but never anything huge. It's not like I didn't try anything that could make money, I just had one fatal problem: I didn't stick with anything long enough. I would try something, expecting it to work almost immediately after the website or forum or whatever was up. If it didn't, I'd find something else. It's because of this that it's taken 4 years to do a little something online. Had I kept up with the first thing I tried, who knows how much I'd be making.

The moral of the story is that, simply, you have to stick with it! Find something that you like, and keep doing it. Don't stop because you're not making 1000 a month 5 days after your site went live. It takes time, but it's worth it in the end.

As a summary: Don't give up. The moment you give up is the day you fail. There is money to be made in IM and it has been proven.

  • I have found a good practice is to note your goals and the directions you are heading in when you are focused. As soon as you start to go off track, look back at those notes to put your mind back in to perspective. Otherwise, you will be running all over the place.

Making money online sure is no walk in the park. It takes time for everything to click in to place. The difficulty for most people lies in the fact that they are trying to apply an employee mentality to working online.

As an employee you're programmed to receive a regular paycheck, so when you don't see immediate results from all the effort you put into your online venture you start to question things and look for alternative methods. It's like you go into panic mode because you fear scarcity. I know, I've been there myself. I'm not out of the water just yet, but getting there.

What I've learned is that I can get by with a lot less money than I thought I could. That has helped me channel my energy into building a business, as opposed to chasing quick bucks.

It's going to sound mushy to some, but I believe you have to work on changing your mindset first. Learn to get comfortable with the fact that it will take you a while to start earning decent money and focus on one thing consistently until you do. Then move on to the next.

A nice reminder from you. Focusing takes discipline!
And that's not common in everyone.

It's true. Success takes time to achieve. But it usually takes time when we are spinning our wheels getting busy doing the wrong things. We can reduce the time it takes considerably by learning from those who are already successful. A friend of mine just gave up his day job and he has been doing internet marketing for just 4 months.

I know he's an exception as oppose to the norm but a list of 15k to 20k can be built within 3 months if you know how. He was given the right guidance from the word go and never looked back. I wish I had the same guidance when I started...

What I'm trying to say is if what we want to achieve has already been achieved by someone else, our chances of doing the same is magnified. Some of us are trying to reinvent the wheel and in the process we waste a lot of time unnecessarily!

Find out who has already achieved what you're trying to achieve, do all you can to learn from them and you'll be there quicker than you would on your own... Get yourself a reputable mentor.

I got these somewhere and thought of sharing:

Don’t Try To Re-invent The Wheel – Lots of other people have started businesses. Lots of them are willing to tell you how they did it. Find a blueprint for what works and follow it. Below I’ll give recommendations for business models I believe are the easiest/best to follow.

Don’t Get Caught Up In Bright, Shiny Objects – As you begin learning, you’ll find that everyone has something to sell you. Almost every one of them is “THE BEST, MOST AWESOMEST, 100% GUARANTEED, IF YOU DON’T DO IT YOU’RE STUPID WAY TO MAKE MONEY ANYWHERE EVER!!!” My experience is: the more you jump from one thing to another, even if the other thing looks better, the less likely you are to succeed.

That's exactly right - stick with it until you are getting consistent, predictable results!

Great lesson there through 'failure' ttdub, thanks for sharing.

A warm and wonderful good morning all! A grateful thanks to the OP, Mena Jo, and my other warrior brothers and sisters for this thoughtful and salient reality check.

In this crap US economy, it is easy to slip into a whiny attitude, and thinking it is just "me" that stuff is not working.

Adding my .03 cents, all also remember that consumer behavior has changed and people are being very careful with their spending habits. We as Internet marketers just have to hold on. When the tide changes and good times roll, it will be much easier to make money online.

Also, I'm a strong believer-as statistics of proven that more millionaires are made in times of recession, rather than in times of abundance.

Here is a thoughtful and mind altering article by Arthur:

dear all, let's keep doing what you're doing; masterminding and supporting each other like this. . . .

Good times are just around the corner!

    Be well,

@ Tevis - amazing video. Honestly I'm blown away by the sheer determination of that guy. Everything is possible if you want it enough.

Grrr been toying with whether or not to post this video here as it's more about self confidence and gratitude but it does make reference to perseverance so...

    Enjoy!
