What can I put in place tonight to make monty tomorrow.

Here is my background.

I'm a coder primarily, I can build anything that's in place on the internet.

I have a couple college degrees.

I've dabbled in autblogging using adsense for monetization, article writing, affiliate markting, site/domain flipping.

I haven't had much success yet.

Trust me, I haven't participated in the kind of action necessary to see the level of success I'd like to have, so I blame myself completely.

I want to do something legitimate to generate money. Although I have seen enough success at autoblogging that I believe that I can meke it work, I just feel guilty doing it. Altuough I get the syndication concept, I'm not convinced that most of what gets autoblogged is valuable syndicated content.

Anyway, I don't want to babble on about my beliefs and such, I'm open to suggestion.

Sometimes I think I need to code and focus on building a site. I've built a few here and there but nothing has caught on. Honestly,

I've been studying this stuff for years. I'm ready to do something. I'm just hoping to find something that I feel like is contributing something legitimate to the world, or at least the internet.

Am I making any sense?

    ???

You seem to have an awful lot of experience in coding - why would you not stick with that? Offering your services as a coder?

If you are a good coder I would think you could make money if you create a WordPress plug-in. It seems to me that some of the most successful WSOs lately (At least the ones I bought) have been WP Plugins.

I guess the hard part is finding the idea to build a plug-in for.

@dad2four: Try collaborating with Warriors who also do coding. Establish a JV with them. Once you get the hang of it, you can run your own thread or WSO on your own.

You made me LOL, I've done freelance coding, it's hourly work. I'm looking for passive revenue streams. :-)

Ace of Shirts, true, my original autoblogging efforts were done through wordpress however I never made them into a formal pluggin. I've used a pretty decent autoblogging pluggin however. I've considered it, but as of yet a great idea for a pluggin has not hit me. Definitely a good idea though, thanks!!!

Networking_now, I was a member over at "Weatlthy" Affiliates for the last 2.5 years. Just droppeout recently. I found a little success here and there doing affiliate stuff, but nothing earth shattering. Not blaming affiliate marketting, I blame my efforts, I just never hit it right I suppose.

Rusty1027, I've don't alot of PHP and I do .Net for a living. I've coded in classic ASP, VB6, js, SQL against, various SQL Server versions, Oracle, MySQL, C, C++, Basic etc.

contentwriting360, I can't say that I have any experience in the JV thing although I have researched it a little. I'm sure it's a great idea, I'll dig into it some more. Thanks!!

I admit to being a little confused at your headline until I started reading your posts. I had no idea who "monty" was nor why you wanted to make him.

I was going to suggest tequila shooters until I read the actual thread. (Yes, some of us actually do read before replying)

Now that Monty is out of the picture...

dad2four, your experience and your desire for passive income practically screams SaaS - Software as a Service. Something you can code and maintain, then sell access to as a membership or continuity deal.

It may not be totally passive, but a collection of low-maintenance service sites comes awfully close, as I see it...

You could try a few Fiverr gigs for something to do with coding that you can do quickly, but nothing much happens overnight. The autoblogging days are over.

  • Code a free add-on for a popular CMS that will list your add-on and bring you traffic, i.e. a plugin or theme. Then offer paid customization, support or a premium version of your add-on.

Con: If it's related to web sites there will be lots of support questions not really related to your product.

Pro: Relatively easy to code, compared to e.g. an IPhone App (but there, you won't have all these support requests).

Once you found something that works don't make big plans as it will probably only last for a few years max, create more of the same instead and leverage your existing knowledge/code to the max.

build a Saas, go startup. Build something that actually earns money (as opposed to the startup lottery).

Its what I am doing (among other things).

You already know how to build it.
You just need to know what to build.
then you need to market it.

Start here Y Combinator: Startup Library
