Hello everyone

Is google ranking dependent on country your website is hosted in? Lets say my website is hosted in the USA, but it is for the Spanish and latin american market. Will I rank lower in a google search in Spain because my hosting is in the USA? Or this has no effect on ranking?

Yes, it does have some effect but for Google my best strategy is to make sure that the content is real good before thinking about anything else

      Content is king.

The sites that are ranking in first and second position in a google.es search in the niche I am going into have somewhat poor content. So thats why I was curious if being hosted in a different country would rank me lower just because of that fact, even though my content(keywords etc.) might be better.

What way is there around this?

Server location has a minimal effect on search rankings. Domain ending with .es and content in Spanish will have a much bigger effect than your server location. I would recommend not to worry about it.

It would be a .com not .es domain.

Content is king. If you have important unique content, you will rank no matter what.

My main website it's in the spanish market and I receive traffic form all Latin America, Europe and USA Spanish speakers and my hosting it's on USA so I can tell you this will not affect you at all.

But do not buy a .com.mx or .com.ar or .es because you are setting your website for that countries and a lot of people will go away if they think the website it''s exclusively for the country delimited by the domain.

Not a big issue. No need to be tensed. Google has no problem with your issue. In ranking, your content gets much more importance than your hosting country.

I think you have to tell google first that what your targeted market. You could do this in your google webmaster account. Or you could ad geo targeted meta tag that will say search engine that your target market is span.

Contents maters, not your country. It has a slight impact on the ranking.

as others have said. content is king. i'm fairly certain google is aware that host monster, go daddy and the other big names use a variety of servers.

response time could be a factor; which could be some of what people experience
