Is there a "mini-sandbox" on google?

I was originally going to post this thread as "does the google sandbox exist?" but that's not really my problem - my problem is that I started a blog three weeks ago, have got to number 6 and 8 respectively on page 1 of Google for my two keyword long phrases and have just sat at the same position for the last week, despite adding contacts, links etc. So my question is, has anyone else had this experience? Is there a mini-sandbox effect which means that you just have to sit it out and wait to get into the top 5?

    I don't think there is a sandbox effect on Google.

    What the problem could be is your competitors have been at it longer then you have.

    They have more/better back links. They have more visitors to there site then you do.

    You could have two sites that are the same in nature. Both have good content and back links. Google will rank the one that has more visitors.

    Google will not rank your site for that keyword with less visitors.

    Stop changing your content. If you are sure its good copy written content, leave it alone.

    Do not add crappy back links to your site. That alone will hurt you.

    If you feel you have done everything right. Its time to try some paid traffic. Get more visitors then you competitors and Google will rank you higher then them.

    Its all a numbers game at this point.
