What are some of your favorite "whitehat" techniques?

I've haven't done much SEO, and I'm curious if there are some great and simple pointers that people use to advertise their web site.

I've posted some stuff to facebook. Tried to create some links as signatures in forums. A few answers in Yahoo answers....

What else is there? Thanks a lot!

    Hello, Yesh.

A great white hat technique that I use is audio. You can create a podcast or even just audio files that transcribe the great content on your website. You can distribute these audio files to iTunes or other directories that accept audio files.

Doing so will give you legit backlinks, but more importantly, more exposure for your website. Yahoo answers is great, you can branch out to a couple other top answer websites for even more exposure. I would start creating a youtube channel. You can create great video content and distribute it to all of the top video websites for backlinks and increased exposure. Good luck.

Good content, lots of images or videos and NO links.

Once you get into a way where you no longer buy links for your sites and you see the other ways you can still rank it feels nice.

I would say Article Marketing is White Hat too. It's like in RL, when you open a shop, you would like to get this as a news story in your regional newspaper.

The length of your articles should be a minimum of 300 words, ideally with the paragraphs focused on a keyword phrase and make sure that your keywords appears in the body of your text.
