Are these domains any good?

I registered a few domains and I'm wondering if they have any value.

The domains are:

shutterisland.org
savingprivateryan.org
raidlevels.net

Is there a website for reliable and cheap appraisals?
#domains #good #net #org

    This site does free appraisals EstiBot.com - Free Domain Appraisal and Domain Productivity Tools although I wouldn't pay any attention to them as it doesn't mean very much IMO.
    I would say those domains carry very little value without development.

  • Have you used Google keyword to see if anyone is searching for those terms? The first two are not recent movies so I'm pretty doubtful they have much value at the moment. For things of that nature you would want to have the website hit right when the movie is getting ready to be released or perhaps when the DVD and other merch are coming out to take advantage of affiliate sales.

    Thy are .org named and trademarked names. Being that and the actual age of the movies.. I doubt it's worth anything. I wouldn't be surprised if you get sued or smacked around by the producing companies.

      They are not trademarked names. They are titles. Titles of books and movies, in general, cannot be trademarked.

      A title can be trademarked if it is part of a series of at least 3 distinct works.

      The OP titles do not qualify under that provision.

        So I can make a bit money with those domains?
        I don't need to become rich, but I also want to stay out of prison regarding trademark issues...

          Sadly I suspect you'll pay more in registration fees and renewal fees than you'll ever make out of monetising them. Often find that hardest thing is letting domains drop (and writing in stone the losses) than it is to keep on paying in the hope of one day making money out of them - or someone suddenly offering to pay you for them!

        Indeed you are. I just did a quick trademark search for Saving Private Ryan.

        The only trademark that appeared was an abandoned mark "Saving Ryan's Privates" which has a completely different subject matter

    shutterisland has about 33000 local searches, low competition and a cpc of 2.69
    euro (Maybe a for a travel company)

    savingprivateryan has 40500 local searches, low competition and a cpc of 0.76 euro

      Here is the stats I'm getting from GAKT :

      Raid Levels --> 27,500 - £3.35
      [Raid Levels] --> 8,100 - £7.51
      "Raid Levels" --> 14,800 - £3.53

      Plus yearly average is 9900 per month.

      If you can rank well for this domain and 'Raid' isn't a trademark breach then this domain is decent. I would buy it if I found it.

        Raid levels are about hard disks so there are no trademark problems with that domain.
        I think I learned my lesson about buying domains.
        Thank you all for your comments.

    A domain is only as good as its ability to rank and/or the price someone is willing to pay for it on any given day!

    A domain needs to be developed in order to maintain / grow value, but if you have a portfolio and limited budget you need to think carefully about the order in which you develop them. This will be driven by the ease (or inability) to rank, size of market and any risks (e.g. any trademark issues).

    Hope this helps!

    IMO there is nothing to do with these domain names, unless you want to develop them to something about the niche which associated with the title, you can try that and see what kind of traffic you'll getting from organic search engine searches.

    Sorry, not really. The first two are popular movies so you could be taken to court and have the domains taken away for copyright infringement. Not sure if the last one is a movie or not but if it is the same applies.
    I know it's unfair and at the end of the day you'll probably be promoting the movies more than anything but Hollywood doesn't like people stealing it's intellectual property.

    I made the same mistake myself not too long ago. I bought two very high traffic domains ShamelessUK.com and ShamelessUS.com. (The UK one gets over 22,000 'EXACT MATCH' search queries per month and the US one gets about 50,000 per month.) Btw, Shameless is a popular UK tv drama that has been remade for US tv and it's very popular in both countries.

    I thought if I build two small sites with a bit of info on season of the show and then from the website I would drive traffic to NetFlicks to watch Shameless and Amazon to buy the DVD's. This could of potentially made a nice bit of cash if I could of got some decent rankings for the domains.

    Anyway, these two domains are just sitting in my GoDaddy account now, collecting dust and doing nothing. I changed my mind after I done a google search for 'Shameless US' (Google search for Shameless Us >>) If you look just below the last item in the search results you will see the copyright holders of Shameless have had sites removed from Google for that exact high traffic keyword.

    In response to a complaint we received under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, we have removed 1 result(s) from this page. If you wish, you may read the DMCA complaint that caused the removal(s) at ChillingEffects.org.
    The sites removed from these search results were:
    • tv-links.eu
    • sidereel.com
    • tv.blinkx.com
    • watchseries.eu
    • ovguide.com
    • tvduck.com
    so clearly they are monitoring this keyword and if my domain name turned up in them results I'm pretty sure they would take action against me, even if I was genuinely promoting their content and not linking to copyright infringe content.

    My advice to you would be to don't get them domains but if you already have I wouldn't spend too much time and effort on them. Maybe set up a fan website or something but be prepared to have them taken off you.

    The search volume of these domains will eventually decrease as these movies will be forgotten after sometime so, I would not mind throwing away these domains. Even if you put adsense on them, I don't see any potential high CPC.

    This is not to discourage or to insult you.. This is to help you turn your time on more productive things.... not by maintaining such domains....

      I 100% agree with this. Very well said.
      There are plenty of more productive, more profitable things to do online today.

    No, they are not good domains and they carry no value for obvious reasons.

    Those domains are not worthy enough to invest. You may get some amount from those but I have doubt whether that can compensate your investment! You can try with raidlevels by associating it with related niche but other two are not worthy.

    Ok, you are trying to get into something that I have been researching for a while now, and am just about to get under way.
    First there is no quick success, you will either be building a site to gain revenue through adsense or an affiliate of some kind, or you will want to rent out the site to a business or sell leads from it. The only other option is to run each domain you develop as your own business, and that will be tricky if you are looking at multiple niches and subjects. You will need to market the sites, create/buy content. This needs to be reflected in what you make from the sites. You also have to remember that people don't stick on sites due to the domain name, they stay due to content, products that interest them.
    I would stick to domains that you can rank, then flip on flippa or lease to businesses within that niche. You could always sell leads from the sites to show the value of the site to that business. It can be very hit and miss, and you will need to make sure you have a marketing plan, and a maintenance plan for the sites or they will be useless and slip down rankings despite their EMD. If you lease a site for say $150 a month with 1500 exact searches you will be making that company money and allowing yourself a budget to buy links and content to keep the site on p1, this can be outsourced if you look on the WSO part of this forum. Build a manageable 40 or so sites and you will be makng a good living. Be prepared for sites to miss rankings for no reason, and companies who will think that getting interest from exact searches to not be valuable whilst spending a fortune on telesalers who create crap leads lol. Good luck., but not too much as I am doing this too.
