A Future Website Owner

Hello Everyone.

I am totally new when it comes to website ownership..
I havent purchased one yet, but plan on buying in the near future.

Am I better off to buy a website with no traffic, no revenue, just to get comfortable with all that is involved in website ownership, or I am better off to pay more and purchase a site that already has traffic and income.

I know very little about website ownership .

Thanks in advance, for your help.

Hi - This can really depend on what area of marketing you're entering into, but on a whole, my view is that you should start with a clean slate and build your site rankings and credibility on your own - that way you know at least where all your links etc are coming from and you can steer you site in the direction you want it to go and not how someone else has developed it.

There are plenty people on the forum that can help you build your site up so you're in the right place at least - Best of luck in your decision

    Hope that helps

Agree. Buy your domain, build your website. Learn everything from the first step up. If you can't build websites, use wordpress.

Learn the basics of social networking, backlinking and try to get visitors to your site.

Goodluck, it's a long road ahead to be successful, but within a few years, my websites are now a full time job for me, paying more than my day job ever paid. One piece of advice.

NEVER GIVE UP. If something doesn't work, you've not failed, you've learned something!

Get one with traffic and income - but be VERY careful that you're not buying a hallucination.

Many website sellers build up fake traffic and sales stats which will disappear as soon as you take ownership.

Check very carefully where the traffic and sales come from.

Anyone can pay $5 to create 'traffic' that makes no sales so don't just go by numbers alone.

There are advantages to building and learning about creating your own website, as well if you have the money you can buy that in an entry level product website, the thing is if your not really very skilled in website maintenance you will need some help and or guidance.

It is not really that difficult to do but it does require some reading and some trial and error, I have been doing this for 20 years, I can create and generate content for a website in under 4 hours, that same process for someone that is not very experienced might take several days to do, the upside of buying into an established website is that you do not have to go through all the steps to setup the site, but you do have to maintain that site failure to do that will render your investment void and null, not something you want to do.

There are a ton of good resources out there but all in all, the more you learn the better off you will be in the future, many would be Internet marketers never own a website and so often never actually make any money online.

    just something to think about.

      Thanks all for you reply.

      To Khemba, Johnsie and Tim..

Is buying one of those ready made websites, the way to go.
I believe some of them are already monitized with things like Adsense..
They are usually around the 100.00 to 300.00 range.
And where would you recommend to purchase one..

      To Andy..

How can I make sure the reported traffic and Income is genuine if I buy a site through Flippa for example..

I suspect that most of the websites on flippa are not really well developed, they often use methods that are not good for long term SEO you would have to really find a niche that you can "Get into" something that your passionate about, something you can write about, something you can create a product around.

That is what I look at when I develop a website, Adsense is really about generating a few pennies from time to time, if you really want to generate revenue you should seriously consider developing your own niche, again one that your passionate about.

I make more money from developing my own products than I ever did from the pennies from google theology, for every one person that makes a few dollars on adsense there are hundreds that make nothing.

In fact most people make a few cents every other week, its not a good method to depend on,

      Thanks Tim..

Is there any place in particular you would recommend I purchase a template to get me going..?

One thing I would do is to decide if you want to use static, html, dynamic PHP or Wordpress, which also is dynamic PHP, (right now google is really loving wordpress) so its a win win, plus there are tons of good themes, but the first thing to do is some research to determine the niche you want to target, find some keywords, do some more research, find some more keywords, create a text file holding all that research

Then consider hiring someone to setup wordpress manually if your not inclined to do it yourself, provide them with your research and keywords and while they are getting started, begin writing articles, fresh unique valuable.

Start from scratch. Build and setup your own website. This adds to your experience and when the time comes you want to monetize your website, you'll have a good idea how you want your website to look like and what should go in there. I just don't trust those sites that have "traffic" when we don't even know where that "traffic" came from.

I would also recommend you register a domain and create your website yourself instead of buying someone else's existing reject site.

Using WordPress makes building a good looking site easy and you'll be better off in the long run actually understanding at the technical basics of building your site so you can easily make changes and updates yourself in the future.

If you need good content for your website you can get some plr or private label rights articles that are available for anyone to buy, so most people change them a bit to make them unique. You can use them as content on your website or create a report or mini ecourse out of them to offer as a freebie to visitors in exchange for their name and email address, hence you will build your list. It helps to not have to do every single thing yourself, especially when first starting out.
