Looking for advice to get traffic to, and profiting from, my blog

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie to the IM world and have been at this for about 4 months now, with my blog being on line for about 3 months. From what I can tell I have been doing everything I'm supposed to do to market my site (not doing PPC though) but I am only averaging around 5 visitors a day, and I'm certainly not making any money or building my list. Actually, I've made $15 from Adsense so far. My blog is in the fitness niche and here's a list of things that I'm doing to promote it and monetize it.

1) Writing and posting content a few times a week, sometimes several a day.
2) Use OnlyWire to bookmark every new post to about a dozen sites.
3) My Twitter page gets automatically updated with every new post.
4) My Facebook page is tied in to Twitter and gets updated when Twitter does.
5) Blog automatically sends new post information to Ping-o-matic to ping the search engines.
6) Answer questions on Yahoo Answers, have 3 best answers so far.
7) Just started writing articles and submitting them to a few article directories.
8) Have Adsense ads set up on the pages.
9) Have affiliate links dispersed throughout several posts.
10) I have a "Product Review" page for a couple affiliate products.
11) I have a newsletter sign up form offering a free report.
12) I am using videos from my affiliate products to promote them on around 7 different video sites using Tube Mogul. I have close to 10,000 views so far between all my videos (about 26 total) on all the sites.
13) I have the videos I posted on YouTube embedded in posts on my blog as well.
14) I have created a Blogger blog promoting my videos.
15) I have created 3 Squidoo lenses promoting my videos and blog. Not getting any visits to them.
16) I have created 2 Hub pages promoting my videos and blog. Not getting any visits to them.

I'm really starting to pull my hair out and wonder why there is no traffic coming to my blog, and the little traffic I do get doesn't bother signing up for my newsletter. If anyone would like to review my blog please PM me for the url as I'm not allowed to post my link yet. I would appreciate any advice you could give me that might help. Also, any advice on how I can get some more traffic would be immensely welcome too. I keep seeing posts about how people have been getting thousands of vists a month right a way, and making hundreds or thousands of dollars off the bat, so I know this is possible.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sean

Everything you are doing seems correct...BUT...you are in a pretty competitive niche so those things take a bit of time. I would probably start networking with other bloggers in your niche (and when I say networking, I mean actually corresponding either through phone calls or emails). Become friends with them. Find out how they are driving traffic to their sites.

Also, do some competitive research on your keywords. What are the people in the top 10 doing? Look at the related searches. Are any of the spaces in the top 10 products of universal search? If so, you may want to investigate that.

It is not enough to just have other properties. You need to build links to them and drive up the page and trust rank and link them to your property. Create a daisy chain that connects your website properties together, ect. No one talks about this but your funnel properties are nothing without backlinks. Just something to chew on.

You say you just started writing articles maybe now it will pick up. Of all the things you've mentioned article marketing should bring the most traffic. However, you need to either write a lot of articles or write really good ones. I hope this helps and oh, it's hard to get traffic so don't feel bad. It's an issue with many of us. Don't get discouraged it takes time.

Thank you for the info. I checked out your weightloss blog and it is very nice. Can you tell me how much traffic you are getting to it? Looks like it's been online for about 5-6 months now, is that right? Have you been able to generate any income from it yet?

Can you explain that? I don't believe I'm familiar with "universal search".

Health and fitness can be a tough niche. I agree with the poster that said you should be targeting keywords. You want to go after long tail keywords if you are just in the niche generally. You should try and find something with a little less competition.

It does take time for you to get traffic to a newish blog organically. This is why many people start up either Article Marketing or PPC campaigns. If you chose articles for the time being I would chose some good keywords and work on posting a few articles a day and see if that increases your traffic a bit. Then go back and post fresh content to the blog once a week or whatever you have time for.

Have your content (articles & videos) distributed over many & many sharing sites. I.e. don't just use Ezinearticles & Youtube to submit your content. Every piece of traffic counts.

And here's the most important part: Use attractive titles for your articles & videos. That's the most overlooked part of the game. If your title doesn't grab attention, the game ends before starting.

I think that you are already fully loaded with a lot of information and I say that you are on the right track, but as we all know we are on a very competitve field, so much more effort should be made.
