I personally think you are over paranoid and looking at the wrong thing... I mean, your looking at names. You should focus your energy looking at opens, clicks and sales.

I hope your right Matt, it's definitely a good possibility I'm being paranoid, it's just the #'s that worry me, it's a pretty big coincidence that solo ad subscribers sign up with their full name, yet it seems like everyone else only uses their 1st name... :confused:

I must be missing something. I don't give my last name ever. I only ever ask for the first name. Who cares about there last name. The email and first name for personalizing is all you need. I am wondering why the last name matters:confused: As far as solo's go don't they fill in the form you provide them. As long as the leads click and buy you are golden. Not to mention that guaranteed sign-ups are never as good as just clicks. There are some high quality solos here and they are pretty cheap.

I've bought bunches of Solo Ads, some from Warrior recommended sources, and some from the DOE. The Warrior ads brought quite a few sign-ups but no sales.

The DOE ads brought zero results. Not to say that there are other ads that might work better, but the two or three I bought ads through were not working for me.

I might try again, with different list providers, but it IS a bit discouraging.

wish i could help you out with this one, but mine only has an email field...ive always been kinda leary of solo ad providers...the first one i used i had a lot of people opt in...like over 100 and not a single sale from it when ive done some ppc campaigns had less opt ins but made a few sales...just seemed fishy to me that out of over 100 people opting in that not one bought...after opt in my conversions have been around 15% prior to the solo ad...which should have ment i should have made at least 15 sales...and i had 0

  The prices on solo's vary pretty widely, the less expensive service I ordered which was 200 clicks and 20 sign ups guaranteed was $27...

Am I being paranoid, do you guys/gals notice a lot of people do sign up with their full name?

This would have probably occurred weird to me as well and I'd probably be posting the same thread you are now.

From an outside point of view though... You're probably just being paranoid

I'm glad I'm not the only paranoid one.. :p

It would be nice if I knew where to sign up, to the sellers list, then I could see if I actually receive my own ad, that's a smart idea...

I do not think you are paranoid and yes with every good thing come bad people. I am sure they have bots now that sign up to the solos. I mean you can buy 1000 emails at fiverr for about 30 bucks.

It would not be hard to make a bot to automate clickers.

Stick with trusted solo ad provides and look in the classifieds here, look for ones that review that said they got buyers.

Not always is a higher priced solo better either. I have paid up to 1,000 for a solo ad and he was beat by a 200 dollar solo ad on sales.

You just have to be careful.

For those who are not getting any sales, they should check where are the sign ups coming from. I mean which countries the subscribers are from. If they are from "Non buying" countries, then ofcourse it means that quality of list is low.

And I agree with what Matt said - Focus energy on improving conversions.

you are focusing on the wrong things

some of the stats or numbers may not make much sense but you should only ever be looking at how profitable your solo ads are, thats it

it all comes down to how many oto`s you make and how many upsells or how many buyers they send you

that is the most important stat of your campaign

As Shakespeare said "whats in a name?" The acid test for the list is just how responsive they are to any offers you make to them. Have you tested that yet?

I have been testing safe swaps as part of a case study I am conducting, my first solo ads will go live in a couple of days. One of my solo ads went live accidentally yesterday and I have seen 6 sign ups as a result. I am not sure how many were sent though. So far, those sign ups are a mixture of full names and some just using first name.

It is basically paying another mailing list owner to send out something you are promoting to their list. You might be trying to build a list of your own, sell your own product, an affiliate offer or just drive traffic to your site. There are services like safe-swaps.com that offer this or you can look here at the classifieds.

  Been doing solo ads for a few weeks now- bought one on WF, but 95% of opt-ins are gmail accounts- while normally this makes up less than 50%. Also, based on the number of clicks, Ill usually get a 5% OTO sale after the double opt-in. but with this one, 0%.... Glad I tested with a small buy to start! This sellers offer got a lot of positive reviews. Not sure what to make of it.

Solo Ads is basically engaging someone that have existing subscriber list that will do a broadcast to his/her list on your product/services at a minimal fee. This is often use as the quickest way to build your subscribers besides article, blogging, forum etc...

Those who are saying that you are looking at the wrong thing ought to be listening to you and not the other way around. Why? Because no matter why you are paranoid you have every reason to be, because it is your money you are spending and not anybody else's. If I wasn't getting very good results from a solo ad I sure as hell would be looking at the link stats to see where the subscribers are coming from. If they have the same or very similar IP address, then this usually means that the person you bought the solo ad from is filling out the form themselves each time using a proxy server. These are scammers and we shouldn't be encouraging them by paying them. Hence, be as paranoid as you like as it is your money and your money alone you are spending.

If you aren't using a link tracker when you send a solo ad, you should be.

Hey Mike, thanks for your input...

I do use a tracker and all the clicks as well as the sign ups IP's look legit, its just the one fact, that almost all sign ups resulting from the solo ad signed up with their 1st and last name while most of my subscribers only used their first name...

I agree it's better to be safe then sorry, and while working online the paranoia gene may be a gift rather than a curse...

the reason why it doesnt matter how suspicious your subscriber details or ip`s look is because if you made a tonne of sales then you wouldn`t even think those details were suspicious anymore

im not saying don`t pay any attention to it, of course you should but only after your entire solo ad has run it`s course and you see how many sales you make

if you get say 100 opt ins and not one sale then you can start to get a bit worried, this is what i do when i buy solo ads

i wait to see the outcome, if i get plenty of buyers then its all good by me, if its very low then i start to look very closely at things like ip addresses, emails, names etc etc

Your question is a fair one because you've seen a
pattern and wanted to know if any other marketer
had seen a similar pattern and what it could mean.

It seems that you are breaking new ground and you
have to see how the subscribers respond to your
further marketers and see if you can come to a
conclusion.

Usually when people give their full names they show
that they are serious or NEW. Only time would tell
really.

I agree the only way to know anything for sure is to wait for results, I was more curious than anything else, if anyone has noticed a similar pattern...

I've had a far better result with asking for first name only. Most are reluctant to give out full names, just paranoid I guess. But building up the relationship over time makes it all better!
