Amazon Affiliates...Is it Worth Your Time to Promote Books?

Let me elaborate.

I can fully understand an Amazon Affiliate promoting jewellery or electronic equipment due to the high product cost and high commission.

I am curious to know if promoting books is worth your time?

Let's say that a book costs anywhere from $10-20. Your 4% commission will bring in less than $1. How many books could a person possibly promote and receive commission from in a day? (That was rhetorical)

Thanks

Yes, very much so. And CD's.

It's a great way of increasing your sales volume, in terms of items sold, and that's what determines whether you get 4%/5% or 8%/9% on all the other, much more expensive items you sell.

I'm going to ignore the fact that it's rhetorical and explain again that what matters is the number of them you can sell, not for what you can earn on them, but for what you can earn on the other more valuable stuff you're selling. I'm not promoting $10 books and CD's because I'm short of $0.40 commission. But when I sell lots of items for $400, I like to earn $36 for each of them, not $16, and the more small/cheap items I sell, the more likely that is to happen.

I agree with Alexa, you might not make a lot of money off of those particular products but it is gonna help your overall percentage and increase your commissions from the larger more expensive products your promoting. I have an astore attached to my website that has all of amazons books and kindle books so when people come on my site they can go into my bookstore and see the books setup in categories and when they click on a book they buy it and it sends them to amazon so there's always the potential they may buy something else. If they dont atleast they bought the book they wanted thus increasing my percentage to make more money.

    Interesting...

I wasn't aware that people were selling in such volumes.

Does the niche play an important part in the scenario that you have presented. That is, would you promote 'CD's' which would hopefully result in the sale of a stereo system as opposed to promoting 'toys for toddlers' whereby you might get commission on kid's clothing or books?

Alexa makes a good point about it being a good way to increase your commission percentage. And FYI, not all books are cheap. I just sold a bunch of textbooks and they were all over $100.

Promoting low-cost books is also perhaps the easiest way for building niche lists, which can then be used for marketing additional related books and even higher end products. One lowly sale can progressively lead to additional product sales well into the six-figure price range.

Books, CDs, DVDs, downloads like ebooks and music are all impulse purchases. After that, it's simple arithmetic.

        100 downloads at $0.99 = 100 items sold

        100 iPods at $200 = 100 items sold

Inexpensive items are one good way to climb the performance pyramid...

Besides, who buys 1 mp3 download or video?

Besides, part 2, these items are great for use with Amazon's free shipping offers. Many times, I'll buy an extra book or CD for $10 to avoid paying $5 shipping...
