What do you think of this website programmer?

Hi,

I had a site created by a website company and recently they did some coding work on the customer download page. A few days later the download page stopped working.

They said there is a bug in the system and they were not able to fix the issue. I asked them then just to return the site back to what it was before they did the additional coding work. Basically they have been working on the site for many days and they have not been able to resolve the issue. I am starting to panic now as this is my main money site and I really do not know what to say to them. They said they will try again tomorrow.

Can problems like this normally be resolved? What should I do if they can't fix the problem? Would I have to get another site done?

If anyone can offer me any comments or advice that would be appreciated as I really do not know what to do :confused:

    I'm a Web developer with 15 years experience and I'm not sure that I understand why there should be a problem.

    Do you have a copy of the site files, or a backup? Don't they have a backup of the file before they made the changes?

    It doesn't sound correct to me that a download page stops working.

    Can you post the URL?

      Thanks for your comments. I will ask them this, maybe they do not have a backup then and this is the problem?

      Would I have access to a backup like in my hosting account? I am completely clueless about this sort of thing :confused:

      If they can't resolve this bug issue or what ever is bothering them, then can't they just build a new "Thank You" page on my site with the download links for the customer or isn't it that straight forward :confused:

        Depending on your host, there could be a backup available. But, to me, it sounds suspicious that they just can't immediately fix the problem or replace the page. I'm quite happy to look at the page if you post the URL. If it's server-side script then access to files on the server would be necessary.

        I would think that replacement of the offending page and/or script would be a 5 minute job.

      Thank you! Depending on how things go, I may have to take you up on your offer. This is a nightmare and not really understanding what they have done in the first place and why they have been struggling for a week is a real pain and very frustrating
