I'm sure you've already thought about it, but I suggest you add newpapers, tv news programmes and radio shows to your twitter list. they often follow back automatically and it's a free way to promote a new product or service.

Good one. Will test that and see. It's like submitting a mini press release via twitter, and if the news source or media that receive it find it newsworthy or interesting enough to carry, they will.

Not just that- you can direct message sparingly too. I'm finding it's a great way to build relationships with specific reporters and writers.

Good idea Rachel. Unfortunately the main local regional papers and radio shows haven't got as far as twitter yet with some still not using email!!

Sounds like a good place for an internet marketer - someone experienced in tools like Twitter and email - to pick up some extra business

Great tip Rachel and I have a feeling that as Twitter continues to gain traction that it will become even more useful in the future, especially if you are a publisher or provide a service.

Yes I know. Tried that and both papers and the radio station are part of a huge national chain. Really not interested in going to meetings the other end of the country which they requested. Good thinking though.

But are you not just adding twitter users that won't see or read your tweets, not exactly your target market? Don't mean to be rude, but seems more about just inflating your following numbers.

no, as i said many of them automatically follow you back. I've made several important leads from adding, having them follow me, then pitch an idea through twitter. they listen as it's a novel method.

Ah.. yes, my mistake I thought it was just a way to get more followers. That makes sense. I didn't realize it was a way in, good tip indeed!

Sounds like an interesting thing. I'm new to twitter. How would that work? Just post newspaper articles? How do TV and radio programs fit in?

There are now a lot of offline businesses moving
    into the twitterscape.

I have several local businesses I follow.

I also get my clients on twitter when possible
so local followers can download their menu, store
    info and such :-)
