Doing Keyword Research for Offline Client -- Questions!

Hey everyone,

I am doing some keyword research for an offline client (custom frame shop), and I have come up with a decent-sized list of keywords. I have some questions though:

1. His business is in Los Angeles. Should I include "Los Angeles" in every single keyword? For example, should the keywords be "custom frame shop los angeles, framing los angeles, custom frames los angeles" OR "custom frame shop, los angeles, framing, custom frames"?

2. Should I include keywords that have a lot of searches AND are highly relevant to his site but also have a lot of competition? For example, "framed art" is a keyword that is highly relevant to his site but also has a lot of competition.

3. When people say that it's pretty easy to get an offline business ranked high locally for their keywords, what do they mean by that exactly? Does that mean that it should be pretty easy to get my client's website ranked highly for "custom frame shop los angeles"?

    When you are doing keyword research you should try and use keywords that have many visitors but not overwhelming.
    For example, if you use keywords with 1/2 million or more hits it will be hard getting ranked right away. However, on the other hand if you use 10 keywords with 50,000 hits per month you will get ranked must faster on those keywords, especially with good content, keyword rich and backlinks you can be ranked first page quickly.

    Justin - I often set up keyword rich domains for my offline clients - load up wordpress, get it all set up with lean and mean seo loving plugins, change the permalink structure, put only about 3 or so posts keyword rich..

    and make a sticky / announcement so that one post stays on top - with the offline clients' call to action- opt in , call his biz and a big link - nice graphic in rt. corner of wp blog linking back to his main site.


    and yes - I would include 'los angeles in the domain name' as well -

    google loves keyword rich domain names.....

    If it is a competive keyword even on the long tail .....you'll have to advise the client an estimate for good backlinks etc. per month to get page one ranking and advise PPC can also be a viable option.

    It also depends also on what the client's budget is...some I've set up more than 10 of the wp keyword rich domain names and some only one!

    Ricky, I know how to research keywords, but am just a little confused about how to incorporate the geographical location into it. I am trying to figure it all out to make sure I do a good job for him.

      Yes I would use Los anglese or the neignorhood the shop is in in the keywords. Normally these keywords dont have much competition and thats why we say its easy to rank for them.

    Yes and other long tail keyword phrases related to the business and the location.

    You're on the right track adding major short keyword phrases that are being searched for to various location names that are being searched for.

    Then ideally you want to create a page of content for each long tail keyword phrase.
