WP Theme development question

What I need help understanding is it okay to take a free theme and customize it for re-selling? I was thinking of re-designing some of the PLR wordpress themes I purchased a while ago with new structure?

I was also thinking of going to themeforest, finding a html template, do a general customization of it and sell it to my niche as a template. Is that unusually okay?

I ask because I always go the hard way and when I ask here I learn that their is always a much easier way.

Thanks

If you have PLR WP themes, you should check the terms and rights that come with them. Usually PLR products will state what you can do with them.

If they are GPL licensed, you can do that. If they are not, you may run into problems with copyright.

I'm not sure you can do that, especially off a site like ThemeForest.

You might find more relaxed terms for PLR themes you can buy on WF and elsewhere.

I don't believe Theme Forest themes are GPL licensed and at least one guy ripped them off and renamed the themes and tried selling them here. It didn't go very well.

    It doesn't depend on anything.

You should ALWAYS assume you have NO rights to alter and resell someone's product. If you want to do so then you should contact the product owner first regardless of whether it is a Wordpress theme or ebook. If they give you permission to do so then you are fine. If not, then don't.
