Made $200 in my first Two Weeks

Nope, nothing to do with making money online.

Those niches are extremely competitive and it's difficult being a small fish in a huge pond.

I did try uploading some books about making money on fiverr and that has made about 10usd so far.

I tried several different genres when I started out, none of which have seen many sales.

I tried writing erotica books (after reading online that it is one of the best sellers) and had 2 sales in day one, 3 in day two, then it was the weekend and I got 10 sales for two days. Obviously after that I decided to stick to the genre!

Oooo... erotica! Awesome hit pal! I bet you are an amazing writer since that genre requires a whole lot of tempting scenes and conveying that hotness in words is not an easy play.

Haha so your books are in the erotica genre?

That's pretty awesome. I've been a fiction writer for 15 years, I got a little fiction up on the Kindle myself, made like 90 bucks over 6 months. Definitely haven't pushed making any money on the Kindle... but maybe I should.

I don't think I could do erotica, all my fiction is of the tragic/fantastical/horror nature.

I never tried kindle so far but after reading many success stories like yours Id say I need to dive in very soon... I must say that this is a strategy that attracts me a lot as it's somehow the same thing I do with short reports...;

So you just posted the ebook on the marketplace and that is it? No marketing? No thing?

I can't recommend Kindle enough! Success can vary, a friend of mine started the same day as me, has the same amount of books and has only made 10usd. We even write in the same genre.

I don't promote my books in any way but I did practice how to make ebook covers for about 2 weeks before I started. You can promote through Kindle anyway by offering one book for free which will allow you to get some positive reviews and perhaps sell other books in your collection.

I downloaded Gimp for free and just kept making covers for practice until i got to a high standard.

I advise you to either learn to make them yourself or else hire someone to do so because a professional cover is truly the key. I have read my friends books and his were better than mine but his covers were terrible and nobody would give him a shot.

Great to hear about your success. I am also newbie here and I am in process of writing 100+ pages ebook.
It is specially targeted to gambling niche (sorry if I am not going into details).
Since I am working as magazine art director with 15 years in business I am shore I can produce my own covers. Been reading about how important cover is and how to design so it is visible and appealing even at small stamp size.
I am glad you are selling yours and I hope my will sell also.

Despite the competitiveness of the erotica field on Kindle, the market is large enough that you can do very well....There used to be some good WSO's on here devoted to that niche so if you need to polish some of your campaigns, do a search on the WSO board as you probably will pick up some great tips from their experience.

In any event, keep doing what you're doing as you've tapped into a really good money maker!

Great work and thanks for the share. It sounds like you are kicking tail for a new starter on Kindle.

Please keep us posted, it'd be interesting to know a bit more about what affects/bumps sales.

eg. Release date/popularity or as you mentioned cover art.

So when you get a bit more historical data it would be really interesting to see how it's moving.

You only need word document to get started, when you upload a book to amazon they will convert it to the Kindle format for you.

I only sell on Amazon right now because I enrolled all of my books in Kindle select. Kindle select allows Kindle Prime members to 'Borrow' my book (I get paid for each time they borrow it) but it means that I can't place it on any other website for 90 days.

I try to be fair with my prices but I've noticed that books for .99c actually sell a lot less than others I have, I can only assume that the users avoid cheaper books because they feel they are of a poor quality.

Now I sell books for 2.99 dollars. There are two royalty percentage options on Kindle, if you sell them for .99 you will only get 35% but if you sell for 2.99 you get 70% and make 2usd.

I can't stress enough how important the covers are, if you want to try this (and you should!), get gimp and practice making covers.

What I did was go to amazon and look at popular books and their covers/description etc. I then went to gimp and tried to make something very similar to it. It took time but it was worth it!

Yeah I am working on something new, I'm from Europe but live in Asia, going to Laos tomorrow for 2 days so I will get lots done in the bus and hotel!

I forgot to mention that I haven't included the titles that were borrowed or sales I made on amazon.co.uk so the actual earnings figure is probably closer to $300

I can't recommend Kindle publishing platform enough. It's a good place to start creating a passive income stream for yourself.

And while writing for Kindle, you exercise your writing skills, which are crucial for people just starting their journey in IM.

Hey everyone, I got a few PMs asking for tips on how I promote my books etc but unfortunately I can't reply to those PM's. If anyone wants tips or help then feel free to PM me but include some way for me to contact you in the message and I will reply asap.

One user asked why I am okay with saying I write Erotica and the answer is simple. Erotica is a very broad term and I am working within a specific niche.

I wouldn't say the specific niche because it would be counter productive for us both.

For every good user here there are probably 50 anonymous accounts that would try to copy exactly what I did and it would be like throwing money away (due to it costing nothing to start).

Plus, I also feel its good to figure some of these things out for yourself. Too many budding IM's want everything handed to them, they want people to release every single detail of how you found success, in turn asking you to give up some of your hard earned money to someone that maybe doesn't deserve it.

I told you the genre, time to research and try to beat me

Maybe I just don't understand kindle well enough.

But writing an entire book, then crossing your fingers for a sale, never seemed like a good business model to me. I understand that you can research niches, but the idea of writing books seems too hit or miss.

I am seeing lots of threads like these, so perhaps its time to write my first book.

Well every book ive sold has seen at least 5 sales so far. The most popular book is nearing the 100 sales in under 3 weeks mark as well.

I think the problem is not that people create bad books but that they present them poorly.

People will be dubious about buying your book so you need to do everything you can to reassure them.

Go to Kindle store and you will see many of the self published books have ridiculously bad covers. These covers look rushed and gives the impression the book is rushed.

Next the title. Many self publishers use ambiguous titles that could mean a whole range of different things and just doesn't catch the readers eye.

I could go on and on but the reason a lot of users don't see success is they focus too much on writing the books! The content could be stellar but that doesn't matter one bit if nobody wants to buy it.
