Ethical Question Regarding IM

Hey guys,

I don't want this post to get removed so I'm not going to get into specifics. What I need to know is this: If you stumbled upon an idea that could make you a good flow of cash, but the method was considered "black-hat" or unethical, would you still go through with it as long as it wasn't illegal?

Yea, I wouldn't want my name on anything blackhat. Legal or not.

      Sums it up .

Everything can be unethical in life

Nike shoes are not ethical if you look at the factory conditions people work in, to make them. Would you still sell them?

Well, you obviously have a conscience to even be asking the question on this forum, so I'd say stick to 100% ethical otherwise you'll fight with your conscience. OTOH if you're someone like (won't mention names of the rich and famous!) those who couldn't give a rat's backside, well, chance it. You could be rich and famous too, or slide down the sewer pipes along with so many.

At the end of the day it's completely up to you. Although remember there is a difference between black hat (unethical) and illegal. A lot of people misinterpret that.

I would stick with whitehat if you want to build up a business (which is what IM is all about). Black hat usually refers to quick bursts of money but never really is consistent or reliable.

It maybe a great way to make money out of this method, but I figure that it would not last in the long term. White hat methods are the way to go if you are thinking of building a sustainable business in the long run

Exactly the point I was going to make. I always go for long term sustainability over short term cash when making decisions.

Personally I would stay away from anything that is a scam. You don't want to be associated with anything illegal. It's many good ways to earn cash you just have to be patient and be willing to work hard.

I'd totally go with long-term sustainability over short-term supposed gains. Being far-sighted always works out better than being near-sighted.

Nope - I don't like to trick people into parting with their money.

In general, I certainly agree with the responses above... stay away from things that would negatively effect your personal or IM reputation, however, it also depends on your definition of "blackhat".

There are many techniques that work, are not "blackhat", but may still have limited shelf-life. Nothing wrong with those, if that's what you're into and if the payoff is worth the effort and time risk. In fact, many short-term strategies can enhance a long-term "whitehat" business model temporarily.

I think the issue is (and has already been stated), first, is it legal, and second, would people generally feel you were doing something ethical, if they knew it was you. Most times, when it doubt, its better to take a pass, but only you can make the call for yourself.

Depends what your definition of blackhat is really.

    Lol.

Are you cheating people, or just spamming backlinks?

Where you draw the line is a big deal..

    illegal isn't necessarily unethical
    unethical isn't necessarily blackhat
    etc....

I DID, once try to use coloring to get past Google's dumb routines. THEY considered that blackhat, though it wasn't. I was trying to get the site to come up PROPERLY, so it wasn't unethical. And it certainly wasn't illegal. So I would say it DEPENDS!

I wouldn't do it because sooner or later it will come back to bite you in the butt. Plus, loopholes and stuff like that never last. If I'm going to spend my time doing something, I want to know from jump that it's gonna last the long-term.

It would be considered unethical by what standard?

But in general, heck NO. There are so many ethical ways to make money it wouldn't be worth it to me. I like to be able to sleep at night.
