Does this work, does that work...

I've read several threads today where members are asking ...

"Does X work?"
"Does Y still work?"
"How effective is Z?"

Let me tell you something....everyone will have different opinions. This means, by simply asking questions like this....

1. You'll be no better off
2. You'll probably end up being more confused
3. You'll be given inaccurate or misleading information
4. You'll base your opinions on the assumptions of others.

I posted this just a moment ago in another thread...

Facts are better than opinions.

No one cares what works for you. No one gives a rats about your data - it's completely up to you to test, track and measure. If you're not doing this, then your actions will be the result of mere assumptions. Guessing in this business is the fastest way to failure.

How can I test and measure?

I test and measure EVERYTHING. I dont place a link somewhere without implementing tracking code (have a look at my signature links as an example)

By tracking stuff you know exactly WHAT WORKS, so you can do MORE OF IT.

Without writing a 5,000 word post, there are only 2 tools you need to accurately track, test and measure the effectiveness of which ever type of medium you decide to implement.

They are ...

1. Google's URL builder
2. Google Analytics

Get to work.

Thank you John. I agree 100% with testing and tracking. I do have one suggestion, though If you are diversifying your income streams (and you should), I would make sure that all non-Adsense websites you own should use non-Google based analytics tools. I had more than one client who got every site in his portfolio de-indexed and the common thread to both was GA on all their sites. If you are using Adsense for monetization, then it does not matter if you use GA or not.

Likewise, you should be diversifying your traffic streams.

Couldn't agree more, John. I feel that those who ask if this and that work already have an answer in mind. Perhaps, they're just trying to solicit thoughts of others before they jump off the fence and test whatever they're thinking or planning to do.

I always say don't assume anything unless you do it yourself. Something that didn't worked for you, it's not necessary that it won't work for me too.

If you hold yourself back due to all these reasons, then you aren't going to succeed. This is just what I think.

Great tips. Now though...how to figure out Analytics. I've been in IM for...well...a lot of years now and Google Analytics just gets more and more and more confusing with every update.

Its easy to feel overwhelmed by GA, but if you implement those two tools correctly ...then you can easily monitor whats called "campaigns" which is listed under traffic.

      What does this do?

It simply allows you to track each referring property across the internet. This means in simple terms, when you're doing say, Youtube marketing, that you can track every single video you post up, and you KNOW which videos are bringing the most traffic, which videos are leading to optins, which videos are leading to SALES.

It eliminates the guesswork. You're not just "trying stuff" by placing links and shit all over the net in hope that something might work.

Here, look...this is where its listed (once you get it setup) Its under CAMPAIGNS.

And heres how the data is displayed when viewing those campaigns.

You can of course sort each referring property by conversion rate, but I'm not going to show you that, am I?

    Unfortunately good advice goes unheard.
    While nonsense like this:

    "Does X work?"
    "Does Y still work?"
    "How effective is Z?"

    Draws the crowds.

    Nice try though...

Right on John. But newbies will be newbies, and they won't click on the "search" button before asking, "what works?".

True ... It's okay to ask for something new or share your opinion like "for me it did not work but for X worked just fine" ... i think each one has different strategy and it's how anyone realizes it

Like I like to say; everything works for somebody.

Just because someone can't make any money with article marketing doesn't mean you wont...

Just because I make good money with email marketing, it doesn't mean you will...

People make money doing everything, and I mean everything - I know a guy who makes an absolute fortune being an affiliate but when he releases his own products he only make a couple of thousand dollars.

If you are going at something, utilize your skills and use that to make your fortune.
