More Security Risks Using Fantastico Than Manual Install - WP?

A friend of mine said it was better to install Wordpress manually, and not to use Fantastico.

Does anyone have any input about this, pros and cons, regarding security hacks etc?

    Hi Michele,
It does not matter as a security stand point really, the scurity issues in wordpress are from wordpress not how it is installed. All fantastico does is allow you to install in a few clicks because it is a installer program and nothing more..

Personally I install mine manually but I use WordPress Secured.

At first, I installed WP manually, but got lazy after a while and have used fantastico to install over 200 wp blogs without problem. One thing I usually do is to change my password after installing wp.

From what I am being told, most of the hackers use bots to find weakness in the wp software and plug-ins. I do get a bit worried when I see all those unknown bots visiting my blogs.

Exact reason why I block them... LibWWW can be a real nasty little bot.

Fantastico names the databases the same way: wp_1, wp_2, wp_3 etc. so there is a slightly higher security risk from a bot attack; but only if your mysql is hacked anyway. Use .htaccess for security, and the installer doesn't matter so much, IMHO.
