What the Hell is a FastCGI error?

This one is a first for me. I just got the following error on the forum.

The FastCGI Handler was unable to process the request.

It resolved itself on the first refresh, but it made me curious about what the heck it means.

John thank you, at last someone else who has that error, it is one of the errors I was getting last week and couldn't get into the forum. Refresh didn't work

I've had that several times, myself...and refresh didn't work for me, either.

it is a programming interface used by some scripts (like your forum) to make things faster than the good old CGI.
