Hi everybody. I have intentions of building a video website for news updates and have even purchased a domain name for it. However, i came across an article that has me thinking and halted all my efforts to go ahead and build this. In the article it said something like when you autopost videos to your blog form public places like youtube and vimeo you risk serious copyright stuff. My question is why would there be an embedd code if the videos are not intended to be shared? Then again i ask myself what if the videos are like say CNN, BBC, or MTV youtube page( I mean big companies who have a youtube channel and upload videos constantly) Can you autopost these videos, like immediately they are uploaded your wordpress plugin pools it into your website). Its just like embedding the videos but this time done by a plugin in your absence. I see many popular music video websites (worldstarhiphop etc)have youtube videos and i wonder how they get access to them. Are there any legal issues if the videos are not modified or anything , just posted to your website. I hope to get some serious answers. I'd be more thankful to people who have vidoe sites and wanna share their opinions.

Thanks for your opinion but i have seen this already and it is mainly concerned with posting on youtube. My question has to do with auto posting it from youtube to your blog, especially from popular channels for example the MTV, CNN youtube channel or even talk show youtube channels like the Ellen Degeners videos. I hope you can be more specific. Thanks anyway

Youtube helpdesk takes forever to get a simple answer. That is why we have helpful forums such as this. I have sent a similar enquiry and never got an answer almost 5 months now. Thanks anyway

If they offer an embed code, it's legal to use it. If they don't want to share it, there won't be an embed code. When it is embedded, you are just streaming it from the source, not downloading it and streaming from your own server.

I deal with this from time to time. Violating copyrights is the liability of whatever server is hosting the video or other legally protected 'intellectual property'. Remember - the web is now built around 'sharing content' and video are not exempt. RSS Feeds, social share buttons and even mega sites like Digg & Stumble exist for 'copyrighted content' to be shared. How that content is used becomes the issue.

Embed video code means you aren't hosting the video rather 'sharing' it. If there is a copyright violation, this code will be followed back to the host and that is where questions are asked.

With that said - should you download a Youtube video without copyright holder permission, you are violating the law.

When you upload that video back to the web and host it, you are really 'playing with fire'. No worries though because there are is great content on the web non-copyrighted under what is known as 'common use licenses'.
