Need Help! Should i sell the information or the service?

Hello,

Today i saw that one of my website page got a jackpot after years of hard work for becoming on the first page of Google.com for very competitive keywords. It passes google panda, penguin and the latest google update.

So, i would like your advice. Should i sell the secret SEO strategy or selling the service itself?

If selling the strategy i will lose the SECRET SAUCE people could easily copy it or even make it better.

If selling the service, it's very long time process and i could do only one website at a time. Also i'm not sure people can afford or have willingness to buy. Because most people said the cost is very steep. It's around $5k cost needed based on my experiment.

Or simply should i keep it for myself?

      Thanks for suggestion Dave. It's okay i think i will sell the mainstream SEO information only. Do you think it's ethical to hide the core information?
      Because i don't want to give it in a whole. Any idea?

    Even if you have the best service in the world or a revolutionary new way to do SEO the hard part is selling and marketing it. Build a list of people interested in SEO and ask them what they would want.

    I suggest do whatever you can to help the most people. You will feel great about yourself and the contributions you have made, and you will reap a financial benefit as well. If you truly have a secret sauce that truly works, you will be able to sell it at a very nice price and still help a lot of people. Then you won't have to worry about where your particular pages are ranking.

      There are so many info products and services out there that claim they can get your site to the first page of Google. Most of those products and services claim they will do their magic fast and for not much money.

      I'm just wondering what your "hook" is going to be when you advertise your service as costing $5,000 and taking a long time to see results? You don't want to differentiate yourself by saying your product or service is more expensive than everyone else and takes longer to see results than everyone else.

      I think you've got to start by selling something that most web site owners can afford then do your upsell later after you've nurtured your prospect.

  • My advice would be to package up your product in 3 ways.

    1 - FREE VERSION - build a list by giving a very small part of the strategy for free
    2 - LITE VERSION - sell a DIY package where they can do it themselves, dripped over a period of weeks/months via a subscription so they can't just take your expertise and run.
    3 - DONE FOR YOU VERSION - offer a high ticket price for doing the SEO for them to achieve the results.

    You can move people through from 1-3 with a good sales funnel!

    Sell the info and do not leave anything out. There is enough half truths online. If it takes as long for the results as you seem to know, it will take so long for them to catch you, you will have version 4.0 out by then.

      I agree 100% with Troy_Philips, If you decide to sell the info, do not leave anything behind. That bit that you may leave behind could be that unknown magic why the buyers bought the product in the first place. So leaving behind that core bit, makes the product useless to the buyers and might affect the chances of you having repeat buyers for your future products. I have learnt in business that when you GIVE UNCONDITIONALLY, YOU RECEIVE WHAT MONEY CANNOT BUY and that is TRUST

      I certainly don't want to diminish your results... but in this age of "rank fast, make lots of money", it doesn't sound to me like there is going to be a huge market for either the service or the product.

      I've seen very difficult keywords rank within 90 days... if you're talking to people about a long-term ranking process, I'm not sure its going to create enough excitement to make sales. I'm also not sure that it qualifies for the term of "secret sauce".

      Again, not trying to "rain on your parade", and maybe I'm misunderstanding the post, but I'm not sure I see the "magic" here.

      In any event, best of luck with whatever direction you go in...

        I agree with every single word here. Selling a product to people that will show them the steps for seo results that takes years to implement is not an attractive product for the public. It would however be a honest representation and draw in the real hardcore SEO fanatics that would love you for releasing that. With that being said you would need to target people that have already decided that they are going to spend the next several years working on SEO for their traffic generation strategy.

    Maybe it's okay to reveal the sauce, but not the market?

    Some businesses or marketers might be okay with $5000 for the natural top
    positioning and maybe you will find ways to improve and speed up the processes.

    I think nobody will ready to spend $5000 because Google always change its algorithm, so may be the formula which worked for you will not work in future.

    Sometimes I'm rather lazy but selling the information is a better strategy in my opinion.
    It gives you leverage. You can sell several copies to several people on autopilot while working on other things.

    I find the idea of working on one website for a long time a poor use of time, considering all the things you are able to offer. If you offer the service as a backend product or upsell as someone here suggested, perhaps that would be good.

    But on the front end, I would definitely sell some information of some sort.

    I don't think you need to worry about too many people having your secret strategy and hence you being kicked off the top spot. I suspect not too many people are as hard working as you.

    You don't want to know how much I spent on Information products before I started to DO something.

    Also, I don't know if you've heard about the concept of providing massive value. People are usually happy to pay for something that is worth more than the dollars they are spending.

    In other words, you offer more value when you sell something that is actually worth $300 for only $97. You create very happy customers who will do business with you again and again.

    • What about doing both? First get a couple people with website problems. Tell them you'll get them ranked. They pay you a small amount for your services. In addition they will offer testimonials when you get them on the first page.

      While you work with them, hone the service, get it clear in your mind how to convey the process in writing, videos, etc. Develop a course based on your original experience with your own website, plus the work you do with these initial customers.

      More than likely, you can speed up the time. That's often what happens the more often you do it. Also you'll be doing the work with an eye to an eventual course that you can sell. This will make you very aware of which actions get results and help you streamline the process.

      When you've got a couple good results with your beginning customers, got the course outlined clearly, put it into production and sell as a WSO or on clickbank or your own website.

      People here in the forum will certainly be interested in anything that gets them to the top of Google. Just make the course easy to follow. You'll find a target market if you can clearly show, with results, that you have the information that gets the job done.

      You need to work with other websites beside your own and make it happen there in order to convince people. One-off just with your own site won't convince people enough to get them to buy.

    You have achieved the first page ranking after a lot of hard work and against a very competitive keyword. How much time do you think it can take for medium or low competitive keyword at your system? It is a very important to know because most of people now a days targets medium or low competition keywords.

    A way to do it for $5000? I could only think of a few such ways. I don't think any are TRULY that secret, etc...

    I spoke with my father yesterday. He NEEDED SEO but he clearly knew most were SCAMS! I told him an EASY way that he could skyrocket to the top. It requires the assistance of a few hundred people, that he could probably EASILY get for FREE, and information that my father and his wife already have! I'm surprised he didn't know it already, and just about knock himself unconscious hitting himself on the head thinking WHY DIDN'T I think of that. He mentioned how wordpress and hoover got such great rankings, and I sad YEP, *****SAME CONCEPT*****! Not only would it be advertising, but visitors would be more likely to say WOW, and go with them.

    But NO SOFTWARE! NO advertising budget! NO BLACKHAT! NO spinning! NO article writing! etc.... and if someone bows out of helping him, he could simply tell them how it would help THEM also and/or give them a discount on their next order.

    WOW, I just thought of TWO MORE ways to leverage it! Nothing special... Wordpress and amazon are doing the SAME thing.

    For me i will share idea because SEO done by personally usually take time .
    And you said your SEO like jackpot , so it not guarantee it works all the time and Google Panda frequent update . That is best that sell your idea rather than strategies and i'm sure you try lot of SEO methods and you know which is effective and which is not.
    Every Google Panda update, you will come with new ways of doing SEO. Just share your experience and share your idea .
