Removing Google Analytics to get traffic exchanges

Hey guys, I just recently trashed Google Analytics in favor of Piwik. I think the big G has become too nosey and pesky. Can Google still penalize me if I use different traffic exchange sites to bring in traffic even though I trashed Google analytics and used Piwik?

While I did the same thing you did for a while, what I think is funny in a dark sort of way is google can't even give you all the organic results from their own search engine! Pretty much all logged in users into google are not provided back to you whether you use Piwik or GA.

No, I meant the change to Piwik. Did you use traffic exchange sites too? I didn't yet but thinking about it.

From what I understand, you won't get penalized for anything you block from the search engines in your robots.txt. Just exclude the specific pages you want to send the traffic exchange traffic to, and you should be fine.

If you need help doing this you can set it up in google webmaster tools, or use a plugin if you're using WordPress.

That being said, keep in mind that traffic from traffic exchanges isn't good traffic, unless you target it specifically.

There are plenty of threads and good information on using traffic exhanges on this forum, like this one:

No, I did not use traffic exchange sites. I just liked Analytics Real Time stats, and wanted to come back because it helps me be responsive to things happening on my site.
    Examples:
    Someone just bought something
    Someone just asked a question
    A new job was posted
    etc.

It helps me see what is going on better.
