Question for article marketers

I would essentially be considered a n00b when it comes to article marketing...

Sure I've written a few articles, but my business model is nowhere based around article marketing, actually far from it.

However, I was doing some looking on eza and noticed some quite drastic differences in article views for some writers with tons of articles and seemingly comparable in terms of actual content, seo, etc.

I won't list any particular articles here, but in the affiliate marketing niche I see one very respected member here with 150 views and another fella who put an article only a few weeks prior up in the same niche with almost 5000 views. Now I understand total views may not directly correlate sales (and who knows maybe EZA view counter is JUNK? ), but I would think one would prefer 10,000 eyeballs to a mere 300 any day of the week.

Off the top of my head, I can figure out some of the basics to getting more views, twitter, backlinks, etc. But I'm curious to know more, as I'm sure plenty of others are as well, from those who's biz model and article marketing go hand in hand.

So what are your thoughts?

  • That could be due to any number of factors. You listed a few in your OP. Backlinks are huge, but you might also want to go back to those articles and look at anchor tags.

    The keyword selection is also huge. One of the authors might have stumbled onto some nice keywords with lots of traffic.

    Also, look at the titltes. Some titles are niched toward a certian demographic within a niche. For example " Lose the pregnancy pounds in six weeks" That targets the wieght loss niche, but it only covers a small fraction. Those readers to that article are highly targeted but few in number compared to " Lose wieght in six weeks." You are targeting the niche as a whole, but you are getting a lot of untargetted traffic.

    Without knowing the articles in question, there is really no way to know why they are geting more views than others.
    Above are just a few things that could cause the discrepency. Others are:
    -Socialbookmarking
    -Popularity
    -Emailing to friends
    -marketing to lists
    -more publishing from off EZA sites
    -Time of day
    -length of time on EZA's front page

    There are a number of factors to consider. But I hope this helps a bit.

    Pretty simple explanation - I've seen a number of WSO's for paid clicks - $XX per thousand. Easy to become ruler of ezine views (by kiddies & lackies who will never buy from you).

    Steer clear of the 'any traffic is holy grail' and work toward TARGETED traffic that will actually make sales and increase your Google juice at the same time.

      To get all those clicks, they buy cheap traffic on goclick and others...

    I actually don't worry about article views at all. Instead I use articles to generate backlinks for my main websites. I care more about how the article's links will help my search engine rankings. Traffic from search engines is much better than article traffic.
