Website Advice Needed!

I own a semi-authority niche website and it receives an average of 1,800 visitors per day. The website's design is simple and looks like a blog. Well, it's really a blog The site is 1 year and 6 months old. This past few months, I've been receiving traffic from search on the other niches but the same market and some of my visitors are asking me to write about topics outside my niche (same market).

After few weeks of thinking, I'm now interested in making it authority. Covering multiple topics and targeting more group of people. But I'm still unclear on some things and I'm afraid it might ruin my website. So I'm asking for experts' advice and here are my questions:

1. My domain is keyword+extra word.com, do you think it's okay to cover other topics even if I have keyword-based domain?

2. I want to change my theme and use magazine or lifestyle themes to make it look like real authority. Will these changes affect my SEO?

As of now these are my questions. Looking forward for your advices Thanks!

    1. I believe it is okay but other topics should be - at least - slightly related ones.

    2. It might possible that a theme change affect your SEO a little but until certain settings will be the same I would not afraid to change the theme.

      1. It's more than fine. If your website has already some good traffic, you should maximize the earnings and the benefit from it's authority. Nbadraft.net does a similar thing. They have a huge number of pages related to basketball but also a lot of pages which are promoting affiliate offers. They are big earners because of those.

You can make those unrelated pages not visible from homepage so your past readers won't feel like you are ruining their favourite subject.

      2. you need to make sure, the new theme is very SEO friendly. Read reviews, talk to the designers of that theme and don't be greedy. If you see a theme which is SEo friendly and also very nice, buy it. It will pay the investment in a maatter of days/weeks.

      Good luck!
