Hey guys,

Just got this domain: NerdHash

I am wanting to create a site that 'nerds' (I'm REALLY into tech, electronics, science etc) will keep coming back to. Have you guys got any ideas on what I could do? I just thought I'd ask!

Regards,
Martin

I don't really know what nerds are into but you could surf around forums that cater for "nerdy" type stuff and find out what's hot so to speak and go from there.

I have noticed that if you spend enough time at forums and chat rooms with your eyes open you can always find out what others are looking for.

      Forums it is.

In terms of the type of website, I was thinking of something like a news feed?

Hmmm... If you're into technology you should know what nerds like, and what a hash is...

To me, it would probably represent a community or hub for computer programmers or computer hardware enthusiasts.

NerdHash... Computer people might have a bit of a chuckle at the name, as it could also be where nerds get high...

I have been thinking about trying to get into fan fiction. Nerds like sci-fi and comic books and stuff.

Talk about new computer technologies; video cards, processors, memory. Do video reviews, videos of unboxing.

well I fall pretty much in your category but there are a lot of site that target 'us'..

I think you need to be creative.. for example search on facebook for
'I ******* love science' group.. this was initially for the more 'nerdy' people but he gave it an amazing spin and it is HUGELY popular (and funny and informing as hell)..

I'm really loving stuff like that.. it doesn't matter with what you do it exactly but it is all about that 'spin' you give it!

Those *** read f-ing but then in the whole word..

you know what nerds really like.....

    Girls.

Find a way to combine geeky stuff with hot girls and you are going to crush it.

I know a blogger that combines blogging tips with smoking hot girls and his blog rocks!

    I should do it!

I love thisiswhyimbroke.com and though it's full of affiliate links, it's for geeks and it keeps me coming back to see more geeky stuff again and again.

I have the domain geekzoid.com but haven't done anything with it. Might sell it. I pick up domains like that sometimes and do nothing with them. I think WorkWithMorgan is right about what nerds really like, however.

Anyone interested in JV'ing with me on this? There are some really great ideas. I've got a lot of technical knowledge (C++, PHP, AJAX, JS, HTML)

You'll want to take that to the JV forum.

I'm in agreement with the nerds and hot chicks theory.

Morgan makes a very good point. Hot ladies and tech stuff works, just look at magazines like Stuff.

There's obviously a weed reference in your domain name, but I'd avoid any specific references or advertising of that sort of thing(!).

Anyway, why not create a blog with a forum which focuses on the latest tech stuff. In particular, you might want to niche down and think about the micro-niches that are included under the nerd umbrella. Things like phone geekery, computer nerdery, gadgets... Or even specific groups like nerds in particular industries, like the comic book industry.

I trust that gives you a little food for thought.

Find what people you talk to on a regular basis, or find what you always seem to talk about. Chances are if you talk about it a lot and it gets you excited, writing it will also be easier for you and you will stick with it in the long run. As for the people you talk to, they would be similar to your target audience.

Well hash is either an encryption term, or a drug. Other than that, most nerds seem to like tech stuff, mmo's, and porn. SO... put up some illustrations of sexy Night Elves from World of Warcraft, and bammo! Nerd to the max!
