You should try to find an expert in the field you want to master and approach them for mentoring. If they don't do coaching themselves then they will likely be able to refer you to someone that does.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

Hi greg. When I first started learning internet marketing I was going-it-alone and found that route stressful, time-consuming and costly. Making connections in the Warrior Forum, in my opinion, is making all the difference so far for me. I do have one person I stay in touch with who I can ask questions, but in my experience I get the most benefit out of learning from my own mistakes.

If you think a mentor is what you need, try to find one you can ask questions who will allow you to compensate them based on how useful you've found their help to be. I am still searching for one I can trust who operates on that type of payment option.

    Hi everyone,

Mentors are very helpful and can give you a very good advice

But I think they are also very expensive that is why I don't have one!

Or am I wrong? But I bet there is no coaching for free!

    All the best

To start with go google internet marketing mentors. After struggling along for 2 years, it became evident to me that I needed a mentor. Chris Farrell is a great teacher, "Kenster" has a really good mentor program. Search out their sites and read all you can about them. I think that Kenster is a great choice and doesn't cost an arm and a let. It all depends on your preference. Anik Singal has good stuff as does Anthony Tilley. All in all, having a mentor will wave you tons of time and , in the long run, save you money as well.

      All the best,
      Dr. Mike

In my opinion, mentor does not equal coach...

A mentor is someone that inspires you in your work, that asks your questions and is willing to help you and guide you for free.

A coach is someone that yu hire to teach you something.

      Both have drawbacks and advantages:
      - is harder to build a mentor-learner relationship than to pay someone and start learning.
      - coachs will be available for you most of the time (thats why you pay them), and mentors will answer yoyr questions whenever they want
      - obviously, one is free the other one is not.
      - probably the relationship with a mentor would be better than with a coach. One is a kinf of friedship and the latter is a purely professional realtionship between a freelance and a client. Someine who is just willing to help for free will be doing it for that, helping you. If you pay for coaching, they will be helping you for the money.
      - a coach does not necessarily knows the bussines better than a mentor, and a mentor does not necessarily knows the business better than a coach.
      - you cant expect a mentor to give you all things done and carefully explained, it would be just a support for autodidact learning. A coach in most cases will.

I post this, because as I understand the word 'mentor' it loses its meaning in the very mokent that is a money-involving relationship.

I would recommend getting a mentor if you have hit a wall. If you are completely new to IM, you should be able to learn most of the basics on your own. Beside you want to make sure you actually enjoy internet marketing first because mentors can cost alot.

Well, the warrior forum is fairly useful tool. you can find opinion, ask questions and get help from others.

A benefit of a personal mentor is someone to really coach you by your side and track your progress of which you cannot get on a forum as much

I wish someone told me what I know now when I was a kid. Instead I had to grow into what I am today. Let me tell you a story real quick. When Smush Parker played for the Lakers he used to want to talk to Kobe and Kobe said, "get some accolades under your belt". Even though, this sounds harsh what Kobe was saying was, show me you can be self reliant then come to me, do not come as a weakling, but, with your own strengths, man to man, one leader to another. In other words, look in the mirror, and, say what can I do for myself instead of asking someone to help me. Another way you can look at it is, imagine asking someone rich, famous, and, you look up to this question, "hey Warren Buffet can you mentor me I need your help", and he replies, "why don't you read a book, take notes, and, study? Information is free dude, dont be stupid".

I would think this would light a fire from up anyone's arse to want to show him a thing or two without his help, so, before approaching anyone, just do on your own, and, that way you dont have to worry about such a reply. A mentor is great, but, you'd probably spend more energy looking for help then you would just helping yourself. It is sort of a catch 22 a crutch, and, a help. Try not to fall for the expert syndrome.
Maybe not what you expected to hear, and, maybe not even appropriate for this thread, but, I leave you with this video.

Mentors are not easy to find. An expert who tells you or teaches you the best of his techniques is a Mentor for you.

As for me, I found my mentor in John Chow. I'm totally a fan of him. I've never interacted with him but his teachings are just great.

I think if you want to learn something new and can't find sufficient information on forums and other free portals then a mentor is wise..

Likewise if you have exhausted all of the free information available and want to learn more then you should find a mentor. 9 times out of 10 there is someone out there who knows more about 'that' than you do.

To find one you just need to browse the web for topics you are interested in and it won't be long before you find one.

If you need a hand just message me

A mentor is not someone who teaches you what to do and makes you money based on his or her knowledge and viewpoint, which is imposed upon you. A proper mentor is someone who assesses your business strengths, capabilities, requirements and potential, and then educates you as to how to make the most of those limited abilities and needs, in a manner that you can fully understand, implement, and flourish by.

It really doesn't matter what aspect of your existing or potential IM career you're looking to improve upon or learn, because if you are fortunate enough to either select or be recommended to the right person who eventually acts as your mentor, then irrespective of his/her personal knowledge in the fields of IM you aspire to excel in they will be able to either personally tutor you based on their own previous experiences and success, or be highly knowledgeable in obtaining the very best outsourcing for your personal requirements.

Be wary, very wary, of those that profess to be adept and qualified to make all your dreams come true whilst participating in a multi-pupil online or offline mentoring/teaching course. They don't work. They make money for no-one else but the tutor. And they seek to teach you mass marketing techniques that are both old hat and practised by many. You may eke a living . . . if you're very lucky, but the greater probability is you've wasted your money, dreams, and more importantly your time.

A proper mentor will offer strictly one-on-one tutoring, won't be cheap, will be there 24/7 when you need him/her, and will teach you more in a few months than you'll learn in a lifetime of trawling forums.

      How do I know this?

I know this simply because I'm a self-taught business man. I've learned through thousands of mistakes along the way. Mistakes that newbies by the tens of thousands are now going through . . . just like I did. I was fortunate to obtain off the cuff advice from a small, highly astute web developer during the course of a 3 hour telephone conversation, which subsequently led to more time spent with him, and that completely changed my way of thinking and the direction of my business. He enlightened me regarding everything in the first paragraph of this post. In a way he was my mentor.

In certain aspects of IM (those that are important and matter to me) I can now excel; blogging, traffic, exclusive content, social media marketing . . . the rest I can outsource.

What I'm trying to put across is that there are true folk out there. True mentors who can really assist you in your ambitions and project you into a different dimension with your IM aspirations. Embrace them when you find them as they're not only a rare breed, they're gold-dust.

I think mentors are great when you're stuck.

I think you need to be taking action, and making all the moves, but just not quite 'getting it'. The mentors will give you ideas on how to do things better.

I think it's good to find people in the industry who you relate to (from their blogs and so on) and find a product that they sell that would be useful. Do that, take the action, and get as far as you can with that, then attempt to engage with them. It's not a guarantee, but usually you know who is good from the support that they give you during your study of their course.

I found this program that teaches you all the basics - and I can say 100% best money I have spent.

There are so many ways to make money online that it is very easy to get information overload and have no clue which direction to go

My advice... Stick to one method that has been proven successful and work at it until you see positive results

If you're struggling then of course a mentor is worth having (if you can afford one). How do you find one? . . recommendation, research, or in my case just gut instinct. You're either right or wrong but it's got to be better to at least try, than the alternative of staying in the same old non-productive groove and getting nowhere year after year.

As Horny Devil said: "True mentors can really assist you in your ambitions and project you into a different dimension with your IM aspirations". He talks a lot of sense.

I remember you posting regarding improving your Scottish Travel site and people advising you to get a mentor, now you're asking about mentor-ship people are telling you to be self reliant!

Do a search on coaching and pm a few of the guys or gals who you think might have something to offer and tell them what you are trying to achieve. At least one or two of these coaches you will feel a connection with. I would also suggest you go for a UK coach as it is so much easier if you are in the same time zone.

I am blessed with a mentor who actually lives in the same city as me and it has made all the difference.

Mentors will save you a lot of time and will show you ways that actually work. I highly recommend getting one (or two or three).

Often, product creators have been at it, so you could possibly approach them. You can get paid consulting from them for $xxx per hour to hear what they have to say, or you could purchase their products. These are the strongest bonds that you can create with any individual instructor, and shows just how serious you are at what you're asking them to teach you about.

I would say get more than one mentor because that would be the best way for you to see "the big picture". Each mentor has their own rules, strategies, resources, and mindsets. Some may be in different time zones as you, so you may never really get to speak with any of them at your preferred hours. You should take all of the pieces and put them together into your own formula.

Just remember that you should be giving to them FIRST. A common mistake I see a lot of people making is having the mentality of "taking without giving". What does the mentor get for mentoring you? If this question doesn't make any sense to you, then try putting yourself into their shoes and getting bombarded with thousands of requests to teach newbies how to become successful - absolutely free of charge. How many people would you help in your limited 24-hour days? You can't help everyone now, can you?

After they have helped you, make sure to turn around and show them your newly found skills. Sounds simple, and it is if you think about it, but takes a lot of time. Best of luck!

Before you choose a mentor, you need to know/decide what you need the mentoring for. Only then can you choose the most appropriate mentor.

When I started out, I knew that I needed to learn how to build a website using Wordpress. So I found an online course that taught me all that. Then I moved on to having a personal coach (mentor) - paid of course. Now, I'm getting my mentorship through paid forums, as I know how to do most of the basics now. So figure out what you need to learn first, and then you can decide whether you need a mentor now, or if a course will suffice. Then when you choose a mentor, just be careful to find one with a good reputation.

I had word with two mentors one paid and one free, but the thing is in all aspect is your determination and persistency. Most of the people after working few days becomes tiered or did not able to keep the pace and they give away for whatever reason. It will not help if you cannot put your efforts with consistency.

If you are consistent enough then I think then you very rarely required any coach or mentor, only few courses will help you like step by step guides initially. Then you will learn while you are implementing then by your own, by using search engines and warrior forums etc.

    Mentor?

The one who have skills in any field. Then, she/he can coach you as her/his skills and knowledge.

What kind of mentor do you want?

As far as I know, I have heard that the one who works for MLM and insurance company, in my country, he needs mentor to do workshop together.

Mentors come in all shapes and size and degrees of assistance, and then there are coaches, too. Generally, I see mentors as a person of high intelligence in a singular area or overarching umbrella, who help others in limited ways for free. I like to think of mentors as guides who will do more listening and pointing out possible doors rather than directing you and opening those doors.

If you want more direction and a little kick in the butt considering paying a coach. Because you are paying them you can expect more direct information and often times results. If you are not seeing results (providing you are doing the work you have agreed to with them) then you can fire them.
