I'm using hostgator quickinstall and I'm stuck at this part:

Application URL: should I leave this field empty or type in "blog"?

This is a bit confusing to me.

    Hey there,

If you want, send me your database name/username/password via PM and I will send you back configured files to upload to your hosting account.

    Best regards,

    Alex

Application URL should have the name of your web site.

      Replace 'demogator.hostgator.com' with 'yoursitename.com'.

Leave 'blog' as 'blog' or change it to another name.

      Then it becomes:
      yoursitename.com/blog

      .

or leave /blog empty if you don't want your blog in a folder

Not sure if any of these answers are clear enough.

If you leave the box empty where you currently have "blog", your wordpress site will be located at the root of your domain, so it will be at http://yourdomain.com

If you leave "blog" entered in the box, your wordpress site will be located at http://yourdomain.com/blog

It will work either way. It just depends where you want your wordpress site installed.

As radhika said, you'll need to select your domain name from the drop down box to install wordpress on one of your domains.

When you are first starting out it can be a bit confusing. Just remember that everything before the forward slash / is your domain that you want associated with the blog and everything after the forward slash / is the title of the folder where your blog will be housed. If you want your blog on your domain name than just don't put anything after the /

    Application URL: Your Domain
Second field is the sub directory where you want your blog to be installed. Leave blank if you want the blog at domain root.
