Each year the earns per optin getting lower?

I see that i'm not the only one who earns 1.30+ per optin in the past(2007 for me) as i see today its about 0.70$ per optin... why this is happening?(at this time i dont have a fresh list) more competition? people dont create relationship? thanks! i ask about this because i afraid that one die email marketing\list building will be dead....

    Most experienced list builders understand that having a list of a 1000 subscribers does not mean that 1000 people will read your email.

    A: 1000 people will not receive your emails because of their ISP's spam filters.
    B: The few that do receive your emails may not notice your emails in their spam folders.
    C: The few that do notice your emails may not open them.
    D: The few that do open your emails may not click on any links.
    E: The few that do click a link may not purchase.

    There goes your $1 (or whatever the current myth is) per optin.
