Where Newbies & Failing Marketers Need To Start

I know that I am not well known in this forum although I have been apart of it for a number of years and I know im not the biggest name in IM. I have seen alot of questions from rookie marketers and failing marketers alike that can not make a consistent income or any at all on the internet.

I do not make millions like one of my mentors Alex Jeffreys but I do make my full time living from Internet Marketing.

I started in internet marketing in 2008 and boys for the first almost four years I bought everything that promised me money left and right and have literally bought about a dozen WSO's in one day..

I'll Tell you what turned it all around for me was, I quit buying products and got a mentor and then I started building a list and continue everyday to add new prospects through my sales funnels..

This is for the Newbies and Failing Struggling Marketers out there, If your still struggling to make any money from your marketing efforts STOP what you are doing and start focusing on getting your list built and getting a STRONG follow up with your subscribers to set the tone for your business...

Also start focusing on getting your own Products and Sales Funnels into place and drive targeted traffic and you will see your business turn around... So Start building your list today and dont put it off....

Now other Warriors can chime in to if they want to give you whats working for them... Some people may disagree with my post but I am simply telling you what worked for me and helped me go full time in internet marketing.

Thank you for sharing this and more thanks to the emphasis on the fact that this is what have helped you earn income enough, or more than even, to sustain your everyday needs. As what is stated here, others might disagree to some of the given tips. This is why it's difficult for others to earn income here because they rely too much on the experiences of others. People are going to give you different kinds of advice and if you rely on what others think, it's going to be difficult for you. When people offer you advice, remember it by heart and serve it as your guide and come up with something that will work for you. Forget about shortcuts, earning overnight, and faster results because they will never happen.

Michael, I couldn't agree with you more! I am currently building a a list, and it is being built right here from the Warrior Forum by me simply writing posts and making comments like I am doing right now.

I would also have to add that any newbie here should understand that when they join a forum, they have joined a community of like-minded individuals that can help them, and who they can help as well. Just become one is a so-called guru doesn't mean that they can't learn something new because even the so-called gurus don't know everything.

List building is perhaps one of the most important things that one can ever do for their business. Without a list, you have no business. Many of the newbies simply don't get that because they're always being directed to buy this product, that product, and so on. For them, it is buy, buy, buy until they can't buy no more and they're financially broke.

Then they sit there and say to themselves, " Internet marketing doesn't work. I am not making any money."

Of course they're not making any money. They're loosing money because they keep right on buying and buying, and they're not listening to what people are telling them. They get the wrong idea about marketing online and then they think that it is all a scam.

However, if they just find someone to whom they can listen to, then they might learn someting of great value that may help them in the right direction.

So for all you newbies here on this forum, listen up! Build a list, drive traffic to it, and then you can say that you have a real online business. Listen to the right individuals, follow what they tell y ou and you will be successful.

Remember, all that it takes is thevery basics to have a successful online business. You don't need anything really complicated and such. Just stick with the basic stuff and you'll be fine.

Good post, but I'd like to differ with you on a couple of minor things...

      > The phrase "build a list" is first. There are lots of ways to simply collect a pile of emails. The success comes with your relationship to that list of real people who volunteered permission for you to contact them - permission which can be rescinded at any time. The relationship I've chosen to foster is "wise, friendly neighbor who knows a lot of stuff and won't steer you wrong."

      > The phrase "drive traffic" is next. Again, there are many ways to make the hit counter spin, but not all of them will result in real visitors who are eager to see what you have to offer. I prefer the term "drawing traffic" or even better "attracting visitors."

Small points of difference, mostly in mindset. From your posts, it sounds like you already know and embrace these things. Just throwing my two cents in for the newish folks who might read this.

Good shout... my advice to people struggling.
Research your niche, find out what they need. Don't offer them what you want or think they need, as in the newest most expensive product. Offer them what they want, your research will tell you this. Don't go with the big number searches etc that most courses will teach.
You will gain higher profits offering exactly what a small number of people really want. Instead of targeting the high numbers and getting no conversions, laser target and go deep down to see what the lesser amount "problem search terms" are, and give these searchers what they want.
So, yes, start building a list. Build your funnel on what your research tells you. Compliment your offers with upsells downsells etc that make sense.
IT'S NOT ABOUT THE BIG TRAFFIC NUMBERS... IT'S ABOUT THE CONVERSIONS!!!
Traffic is easy, conversions are also easy, but only if you do your research. You can make 10 times the profits by attracting the right 10% of the main crowd.
Really, think about it, stop chasing the high numbers, that's just hoping for profit, instead of knowing you will profit.
        Nick:p

    Hi...

Ideally, everyone should get a mentor in learning any activity that they are passionate about. Working with a mentor WILL greatly increase your chances of success in IM.

But mentors are rarely free, and GOOD mentors can be a challenge to find (and generally cost more).

This is very true and in fact I couldnt afford a mentor and what i actually done is went and worked as an exterminator to afford the mentor and once i started becoming successful I left the exterminating job...

Mentors are definitely expensive but if you can afford it then that is the route anyone should definitely go..

Thank you for your Feed back Joe, Were all here to learn from one another..

The thing that worked for you, (list building and working with those prospects) is one of the strong underpinnings of marketing in general. This is very good basic, begin at the beginning, advise.

John Thornhill, Dave Nicholson and Alex Jeffreys was the coaching I took part in, Alex Jeffreys was offering his Marketing with Alex Program here as a WSO, I dont know if he still is but you can check the WSO Section out...

Just remember though, There is different coaches for different methods, The coaching I went through entailed of building your list, setting up sales funnels, product creation and building a buyers list..

There are plenty of options to choose from though on the WSO Section... I'm working on a coaching program right now entailing what I done to turn my business around but that wont be ready for the public for about 6 months as Im in the middle of doing the ground work for my coaching....

My best advice is to go to the WSO Section and hit the search bar and type in coaching and a full list of coaching oppotunities will appear, Go through them all and the one you think will fit best choose that one... Now alot of coaching is expensive and for good reason if you see a coaching program and its $497 and you seen one that is say $97 and your first instinct before you seen that price tag was that the $497 coaching would better fit your terms for you business model then choose that one dont choose the other one because it is cheaper...

Good Luck with everything and I wish you the best!!!

A lot of newbies are afraid to start because they are afraid to fail. They want to make sure that their efforts won't be in vain so they spend countless hours researching and eventually have a information overload.

I think the best advice for any newbie is to "just start working on something". Create a website about your dog, your life, your teddy bear collection, your favorite drinks, etc. You can make a website or blog about literally anything. Once you have some practice it will be much easier for you to make a killer website. You will also notice that new ideas will keep flooding into your brain as soon as you start working on a new project.

So don't get caught up with trying to make the perfect product or website yet - just focus on starting one website about something you like and its all downhill from there.

At least, that's what worked for me.

Definitely! In fact, I think that I actually heard Alex Jeffreys (the OP's mentor) say this in one of his webinars (although I think he said he got it from someone else): "Don't get it perfect, just get it going!"

I love that advice because before that I would just sit there and make excuses about how my website or my squeeze page wasn't good enough so I wouldn't even get one up. That is ridiculous. You just have to start and improve as you go.

I have one of those Type A personalities so I used to just plan and plan and plan but planning without action is worthless. Just take action everyday to get towards your goal.

      Great Post Michael!

I have a question: I know this is a fairly common question in the email marketing arena and I'm aware there is no one right answer, but how frequently do you contact your subscribers? What sort of frequency works best for you, and how did you find the right frequency (trial and error, or through your mentor)?

Since we are on this topic of list building, no one has actually really touched on the quality of list / demographics of this list that we are talkin' about. Meaning to say, if my niche was gaming or computing, having a mega list acquired from gardening or health products would really mislead you as to what kind of success rate you will have during conversions.

Also, since everyone agrees that list building is the way to go, how do you protect your list from being accessed / stolen ? Most ppl use mailchimp, aweber, etc heck if hackers can even hack into your computer if they wanted to, im sure they would for something that they could monetize

thanks michael, and all the rest of the warriors who had an input. im new in IM, and i chose IM as my niche, too. i have a website on which i post what i learn linked with step by step tutorial videos from youtube. so, my website attracts a steady flow of internet marketing enthusiasts and newbies. my question to you all though is...how do i go about converting my traffic into a list? i know building a list is essential to internet marketing success, but i dont really know how to build that list. i think im on step one, which is attracting traffic to my site. but, how do i go to step 2? i have all the necessary tools to have my site shared by my visitors, but i dont have any tools set up to convert them to recipients of mails from me. so, in a nutshell, how do you get people to sign up to your list? what tools do i need on my site?
thanks to all of you for a very informative thread, and thanks michael for starting it.

Choose a niche that is proven to make money already. Get in there and find a way to capture the traffic by any means necessary. Get affiliates for your affiliate marketing activities. And if you have you're own products then you can just get affiliates for your products...

I think the problem for many newbies in building a list is that they just don't feel that they have anything of value that they can say to their members. The simplest way I've found is to read others' comments about product A and invite list members to throw in their tuppence worth and get a discussion going. If you can show that you have an intelligent approach to IM, even if you don't know it all, then your list members will respect that and hopefully buy into your sales message when you make it.
