One Sale in One Month! What am I Missing??

by Zekena

Hello Everyone,

I am confused at my results, and I am hoping someone can help. This is what I have done to try to get traffic:

PPC- could only afford 1 week, No Sales

Ezine & Go Articles (about six over the last 3 weeks) - No Sales

Facebook Ads - One sale

Pinged articles

Amazon Product Ads, so far only 1 week - No sales

I have only made one sale, I do not know how to increase traffic. My stats are 149 visitors to date and I opened my online store in March. What will work?? Please help! I have been told my site is really nice and user friendly, and I have lowered prices to compete with Amazon, and now I am not sure which direction to go. Please note: No money now, so what can I do to get sales? Any ideas? I thought I had a plan, but it hasn't worked.

Let's see your site, it looks like conversion is low. Also, 149 visitors might not be enough to make a killing...

PS: Commenting on blogs for backlinks (set up Google Alert for your keywords) might help.

Yes, I am referring to my jewelry site. I have one sale, and only 149 visitors since the middle of March. I need to know what to focus on to get more sales.

      Thanks

You seem to have very little exposure on how internet marketing works, i really don't know what you are promoting but as an affiliate you need to have this:

    1. Good landing page..

    2. Content must be descriptive and compelling in a non offensive way.

    3. You need lots of traffic, if you think 148 traffic in 1 week is traffic then you
are kidding yourself. You need way lot more to get better conversion and sales
and not just any type of traffic but targeted one.

    4. As an affiliate marketer, one tool you can't overlook is building your list. List building works like charm when done correctly.

    5. If you are using PPC, your site and product have to be able to cater for the cost
through multiple sales. Alot of time it's best to direct PPC traffic to your opt in page, grab their names and emails and follow up with them otherwise a lot of people that will land on your site won't buy and there won't be any way to get in touch with them again, waste of money and time..

I am not doing affiliate marketing. I am trying to get traffic to my online store. I have done article marketing, ppc and amazon products ads in addition to facebook ads. Nothing appears to be working.

It could be a number of things that aren't working. It could be the product, there has to be a demand for the product. Some products will have a better conversion rate. Also competition, if you don't have the lowest price - you have to have something to offer the buyer. Either warranty, or better customer support. If you are getting a lot of views and not enough clicks, it may be your landing page.

To get 1 sale from 149 visitors does not sound too bad to me, but if your sales page was good you probably could have made more. I suggest keep on doing what you're doing, in time it will increase. The best way is to get as many backlinks as you could so your website ranking will improve.

Your marketing plan isn't exactly the best. You need to do more free marketing if you dont have the heavy funds (or any funds) to do paid advertising. So if you do free marketing, you need to do more promoting using different marketing methods. 149 visitors isn't a determining factor as the reason you're not having success.

Your website must be more sophisticated, since you are selling jewelry. You are not selling something cheap, so your website must have a special style.

It would be helpful if you would talk about your products and explain why your visitors can trust their quality. I read your About Us page and it is poorly written. Your English doesn't inspire confidence.

You can find an editor at the Warriors for Hire section. The editor will correct your mistakes and improve your writing.

  • 1. If you are not on Pinterest, you could set up an account there. Don't spam the heck out of the site, but do post your images there with your product descriptions and link back to your product. As a matter of fact, your products (because of the images) are a good candidate for all the other image posting sites that allow you to post similar items. 2. Get creative and think out of the box. Maybe set up a YouTube channel and get some good looking people to showcase your jewelry, give tips on jewelery care, etc. Get some ideas from the home shopping channels. You're basically lacking branding, so go out and brand yourself!

On your 'to do' list? If I owned a ladies jewelry store it would probably be the first traffic generation method I used.

Was reading yesterday that the average traffic that ends up on a retailers website from Pinterest spends $180 compared to $90 from FB and $70 from Twitter.

People are in the mood to buy when they use Pinterest, it's a place where they go to get inspiration before whipping out the credit card.

When selling anything that appeals to females you need to be on there like there's no tomorrow.

Your traffic figures are very low...149 isn't enough to draw conclusions about conversion rates.

I would never buy jewelry from a website. Jewelry is not something that I would buy without actually seeing it. Here are some observations, from my perspective. These are some things that would turn me off if I were planning on buying jewelry online.

          1. The first page talks about today's specials. A jewelry store is not a family diner. Nobody wants to know your specials. People go to jewelry stores expecting to spend money and they want something unique. Offering coupons or telling people how much they save by purchasing today is not an approach I would use if I were attempting to sell jewels.

          2. Your contact information is contained within your privacy statement. If I were going to buy jewels online, I would want a phone number and physical address posted on the site. I should not have to look for that information. I should be able to see that you are associated with the BBB or something similar. There are too many shady people out there. A physical address and phone number that are visible without looking for them would make me feel more comfortable.

          3. Many of the things that you are selling are lower priced. It is going to be hard to make big money when you sell low tickets items. In selling such low price items, you pretty much take yourself out of the pay per click market, which would likely be the most effective way of getting targeted traffic to your site that would actually buy items.

          4. It is a bad idea to put a social media icon on your page if it has very few likes. I would suggest putting up a fake icon with a larger number on it, or purchasing likes. Get at least a few thousand likes. You want to create an experience that makes visitors believe that your products are in demand. An icon showing that very few people like your store does nothing to help you.

These are just a few things that I noticed. There were some good suggestions above. Social media or word of mouth are the best for those on a budget. Article writing will be a waste of your time, unless you have something exclusive and can make the article so interesting that people want to read it. I doubt that will happen. For now, I would modify the site a bit. I would then hit face page and the pin board hard. Get people liking your warez and telling their friends about it.

Good advice I get more sales from pinning than Facebook anyday.

A more targeted niche like "rare stone pendants" or something along those lines will set you apart from the big discount stores. Trying to compete in jewelry is hard with no money so you have to get resourceful in your approach. Try niching your site down to more targeted sub niches and you will see more free traffic. Then promote yourself in forums with people that like that niche. If it is rare stones then find a forum of people that like rare stones.

Good luck. By the way one sale in 149 is not bad on most of my broad niche sites I get 1 sale per 100 visits and consider that good. If it is a tight niche then it is more like 1 in 20 to 25 visitors.

What are you offering that is better than I can get anywhere else?

You'll have to be more unique or cheaper or have a better range than your competitors.

Unfortunately what you're offering is probably available from most of the major retail sites i.e. Amazon.

You need a unique selling proposition.

It's not easy I'm afraid and takes a lot of work, research and creativity to come up with the right approach (USP)

There could be several things going wrong.

Maybe your sales pitch isn't strong enough or a maybe it's too strong. It might be a good idea to check out the Classifieds for someone who can critique your sales pitch.

Also, if your budget allows, make sure your website is original. Make sure you are as good or better than your competition. Don't try to match the big guns like Zales but rather similar sites that feature similar products to yours.

You may also be able to set up an Amazon account, as a vendor not only product ads and sell through there.

And please make sure you put in daily work to improve your site and drive traffic.

    Hope you see better results!

There are thousands of online jewellery stores.

Your first aim is to get visitors. Do some keyword research and target some specific, long tail keywords (as in not the most obvious keywords that everyone else is also targeting).

Concentrate on onsite seo until you actually rank for some of these less popular keywords. Then you might start getting visitors from search engines. You need thousands of visitors, not hundreds. You won't make significant sales until you have significantly increased your visitor numbers.

Someone suggested pinterest - a great way of getting visitors.

Your site is boring and looks like every, dodgy, cheap site.

Make it more professional looking. Explain who you are. Put some highly visible contact details - real contact details with a chatline or email that will be answered promptly, professionally and in good English.

It's going to be hard work and a long term project. You aren't going to see instant results.

I have to agree with this comment. Nothing personal, but I wouldn't even consider buying from it.

I think this is one of your two big problems. I think the other one is that it sounds as if you may not have an adequate traffic-generation plan for a site which - however you look at it - is going to need tens of thousands of visitors per month to become significantly profitable.

However, I think you need to make significant changes to the site before attracting too much traffic to it, so that it isn't boring and doesn't look like every dodgy, cheap site.

I have been reading your responses to forum questions for a long time, even before I launched this site or became a member of Warrior, so your response stings a little more than the others due to the fact that I have come to respect your answers. I really thought my site was well done, now I do not know how I am going to make it more professional. It was not my plan to come off cheap looking. Thanks for the insight. All responses are appreciated.

I'm sure you have already gotten some really good answers but I would suggest that you should take a look at your product. If it's not selling it's because people don't like it. A lot of times we have to remember that it doesn't matter what we think, it matters what the market thinks. Test and tweak your product to see what works and what doesn't.

              Hope this helps,

    1. Your site does not look so bad in my view. It is OK.

    2. You are saying that you got 149 visitors to date and have made 1 sales. There is your gold nugget right there.

If you get 149 visitors per day, then you will get 1 sale. Let's assume that this is the worst case scenario.

If you get 300 per day, you would make 2 as minimum. I think that if you can get 300 unique visitors per day, you can get anywhere between 2-6 sales if you stay consistent with your marketing.

Buy Google Adwords voucher at Fiverr. A $75-$100 voucher costs just $5 there and advertise your website via Adwords. If you do everything right your website will be at the front page of Google within hours and you can maintain your campaign for 3-4 days.

    1. Your site design doesn't give me much confidence as a buyer. I would have a hard time buying from it.

    2. 149 visitors is a very very small number and far too small to be drawing any conclusions.

    3. It sounds like you are spreading yourself too wide. Just concentrate on ONE traffic source until you get it working. Then you can move on to others.

I think you have a great start. Your site doesn't look bad. I would definitely check out some of the more popular jewelry store's sites to get some more ideas of things that you could add to make your site more appealing to the eyes. That is very important, especially when someone is looking for something that is pleasing to the eyes.
