cloaking link question

How do you cloak a affiliate link in your hosted wordpress blog. For example I am in the basketball niche and I created a blog post about how Lebron James and the heat are struggling in the finals and I highlight Lebron James name in the post and it takes the reader to an affiliate offer for a autographed Lebron James jersey. Do anyone have any tips or any youtube videos that explains the process.

Use the plugin pretty links to cloak them, it is a very simple yet effective plugin.

Search for a redirect url plugin, or a link cloaking plugin. There are many free ones in the wordpress plugin search.

I would use an html redirect, where the link in your blog post
    would be to: http://YourDomain.com/ProductName/

Inside the /ProductName/ directory on your site, I would
stick an index.php page which has the target url, your
affiliate link, encoded in the header.

When your blog readers click on your link, it would talk them
    through http://YourDomain.com/ProductName/ to your target
affiliate url... which again is encoded in the header of the
    index.php file.

To learn how to do redirects, just google php redirects, but here is
the code... if I the forum will allow me to paste it:

    <?php
    header( 'Location: YourTargetURL' ) ;
    ?>

You can simply copy this code into a text file, replace where I have
YourTargetURL with the actual affiliate link, save the page as
index.php (making sure that you select ALL, when choosing the
file type to save as), and then upload that file to your server,
    in the directory: http://YourDomain.com/ProductName/

Now you can use the link: http://YourDomain.com/ProductName/
anywhere you want to use that affiliate link.

I hope this didn't confuse you too much. I do this practically
every day, with it taking me less than 2 minutes to create, uload,
and these the target page, before using that cloaked link in blog
or social media posts, articles, and ezines, etc.

It's a lot easier to use the plugins suggested above (Pretty Link), but I'd go with Willie's suggestion.

By using the PHP redirect you're not loading your WP blog with another plugin that will slow it down. Unless you have hundreds of affiliate links, in which case just go with the plugin.

I read the other answers and realized that they were probably
easier, but since I'm now at a point where I actually THINK in
HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP... I typically do use the redirect
        that I shared with you.

Some blog platforms, including WordPress, can be fairly resource
intensive (especially when they have a lot of plug-ins), so I tends
to do this without using a plug-in, just for that reason.

I may have missed something, but from what I could tell, Pretty Link Lite doesn't actually cloak the link, only the Pro version does that. So if you forward to a Clickbank link, there's still that pesky hop link that people can see...

I either use a redirect software that works somewhat similar to Pretty Link, or (if it's a product I plan to promote for a while), I buy a domain name and redirect it through that).

I have used a PHP script for years called samurai stealth cloaker. You can set it to simply redirect, mask or stealth (bypass the vendors page), it's really easy to use and works a treat. Not sure if it is still available but there are others like it.
