Hi, I'm starting a site for my niche, which will pour in adsense and amazon after creating values then market it out. Anything i should look out for ?

Many marketers uses wordpress over blogger or other sites, any reasons for this ?
I ask because i read the terms in wordpress, it doesn't allow adsense or sort of advertising Any help is appreciated.

Cheers,
Norman

Yes - it's because they want to own and control their own website and not have it disappear in the night without any reason ever being given. (WordPress has many other advantages, too, but that one's enough, isn't it? ).

You're confusing two different things, Norman. You're talking there about the free hosting site called wordpress.com. That's as bad and as inappropriate for a marketer as Blogger is.

When people here refer to "WordPress blogs", they're not (unless expressly specified) talking about that site: they're talking about self-hosted blogs made with the same software that's also available on that free hosting site.

WordPress software is free. It's available from wordpress.org, but many hosting companies have it already available as a "one-click installation" when you buy your own hosting. (That isn't a very secure way to install it, though).

There are only really four (partly overlapping) groups of people (in "internet marketing") who use Blogger ...

    (i) People who are unaware of the unnecessary risks

(ii) People who imagine that those risks are all problems that happen "only to other people" and that they'll be ok "if they stick to the terms of service" (it isn't true at all, as you can discover in the threads listed below!)

(iii) People who don't know that you can have your own reliably self-hosted WordPress blogs without even paying anyone a penny for the blog, the theme or the hosting

(iv) Very few people who still imagine that "they must rank well because Google owns Blogger" (seriously, there are still a few people who believe that - it's also nonsense).

In other words, collectively, they're all people who - for whatever reasons - don't quite appreciate that it's entirely unnecessary and pretty ill-advised. If you want to see why so many who have tried doing that and regretted it are now advising others not to repeat their own mistakes, these threads will help ...

Google Suspended My Innocuous Blogger Blog
    Squidoo/Blogger as primary website
    Blogger and deleted blogs?
    Blogger blog removed
Wow Blogger Deemed All My Hard Work Spam
    Is blogger blogs worthy?
    have blogspot energy?
is Wordpress really a better choice than Blogger in my case?
    Blogger Hosting...Is that ok??

Of course it's possible to use Blogger without encountering disasters, and/or to make some money there, and/or to derive some backlinks from it, and/or do other things from a "site" hosted there, but that doesn't make it a sensible thing to do: it's just completely unnecessary, when there are so many other, better, safer ways of doing exactly the same thing (also without paying, if that's a factor!).

Hi mate.. Even I was having the same doubt, ie which one to go for, wordpress or blogger or any other... But after reading some very good threads on this forum I got enlightened and bought a hosting and going to install worpress and my site will be up in some days. Also the wordpress community is awesome. Just to clear your doubts go through the threads where the same discussion is being discussed..

    Always go for Wordpress.
Don't waste your time on Blogger because TIME == $$$$.

Self-hosted wordpress is far more better than blogger in every aspect. Go for it if you are serious about your online business

    Both are fine.
Yes you can lose everything with Blogger, but if you keep within the rules you will be fine. I've had both running for years without any problems.

Also consider Weebly - very fast & easy to create sites and certainly a more user friendly interface than Blogger.

Try telling that to the people whose posts fill all the threads listed above, and so many more, Troy.

The problem is that the rules there are changeable, idiosyncratically and inconsistently enforced and applied, and it's possible (as so many Warriors have learned to their cost, and great surprise) to get your blogs deleted by an automated process, without human review, simply if competitors "flag" them.

Please don't advise fellow-members here that "if they keep within the rules, they'll be fine" at Blogger. It helps nobody. It's simply inaccurate. And there are countless posts here attesting to that, and explaining why it's mistaken.

I would have to agree with everyone here. Instead of relying on free platforms, go ahead and get your own site and install the WordPress CMS. That is not to say that free WP and blogger blogs are bad; but if you intend to do this long term AND make money from your blog, getting your own site is the way to go.

    Here's what you can do:

Go for small projects as a freelancer on Odesk, Fiverr, and similar services and set aside your income for the domain and hosting. That would serve as your initial investment for your blog. And since it's no longer free, you would be compelled to figure a way to monetize your blog. It's a nice motivation , believe me.

And when you finally land your first dollar or check from the blog... the feeling will be priceless.

    Best of luck,
    Rick

You should most certainly be building your own sites on your own domains. Why spend all that time creating a business that can fall down at the click of a button.

I would recommend using Wordpress self hosted on your own domains.

because wordpress flatform is easier to user and you can easily add content to your site in a a very short period of time.

You cannot take wordpress or blogger.com as your primary hosting. Yes, you can get started with them but you should move along with your paid hosting asap. You never know when your site gets deleted at those free hosting as you have no control over them.

    Hey Norman
I came across the same problem not so long ago with a .wordpress.com site.

Though i wasn't placing adsense it was from placing affiliate links on the site.

I found the solution to this problem is to get hosting and a domain name and install wordpress onto your own hosting.

Wow, I'm interested to know how is it possible to get hosting, domain and theme for free.

Good point, I wish to get more education on this. Thanks Alexa Smith

When you post like that, by interspersing your comments in another color, inside a quote box, it makes it really difficult and time-consuming for people to reply coherently. You might find the "multiquote" toy useful.

You can get hosting free at Freehostia, Byethost, 000WebHost and a number of other places.

It's perhaps true, overall, that "free hosting" is slightly less reliable and secure than paid hosting, but there are companies who build their hosting businesses along the lines of impressing people so much with the free hosting that when they become successful, they stay permanently for various paid upgrades (Freehostia and Byethost are in that category - I don't know about 000WebHost).

Make sure that you use a well-established one, with a decent overall reputation (finding some complaints is inevitable, when you research them: there are complaints about Hostgator and JustHost, too).

Take no notice of people who will tell you that "all free hosts are terrible" and that your site won't be secure there, and that "the host will put their own advertising on your pages" and all the other ill-informed myths that people like to churn out. There are some free hosts whose quality of service and security are better than some paid hosts. You just have to do your research. I'd start by looking at Freehostia and Byethost, if I were you. I know professional marketers who have happily been using Byethost for years (having upgraded there from their original free hosting to paid hosting when they could afford it).

Free WordPress themes: Let me google that for you

I didn't say that you can get a domain-name without paying (actually you can, but those really are terrible, and completely unsafe, and you really do need to avoid them!), but free hosts like those mentioned above will give you a free subdomain (i.e. just like Blogger will, but unlike Blogger they won't suddenly take your site down in the night for no reason you can ever understand). It's much better to have your own domain-name, and they cost almost nothing. Almost everyone who can afford an internet connection can afford a domain-name.

Always, always, always read the terms of service carefully!

I can't thank you enough, Alexa Smith.
I will setup and run, as fellow warriors advice.
I've registered odesk for today. Earn some money to cover domain cost and eventually fund for my site till bucks roll in.

          Cheers,
          Norman

Definitely use Wordpress. I've used blogger before, you'll get a lot of recommendations for it "if you're a beginner" but I advise even beginners to simply start off with, just bc it's a pain to migrate your blogger subscriber base to your own wprress/blog site

    Edit:
    iPad went a little wacky.

Yea, anyway, it can be a pain, unless of course you have an email list.
But if you're inquiring about using blogger, you most likely do not have an email list.

That's because it's a free platform where normal people can express themselves; it wasn't designed for marketers to profit from.

In my opinion, going for free platforms like wordpress and blogger is not good. They are known for deleting blogs for no reason at all, and if they find you using their platform for the sole purpose of making money from it, they won't appreciate it.

Why don't you buy a domain and hosting. Your start-up cost would not exceed $20, $10 per year for a .com domain and $10 per month for a shared hosting account. It's easy to get that money, if you don't have it already. Write some 2-4 articles, and you'll have enough money to buy your own web property. You won't have to worry about people deleting your blogs or following stringent rules that way.
