There are several methods you can use when promoting your site. Some are...

    - Forums
    - Blog commenting
    - Guest posting
    - Writing articles
    - SEO
    - Creating newsletters
    - Social Bookmarking
    - Blogging
    - Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest)

The trick is to pick 2 methods you believe you would enjoy doing then stick to only those methods. Once you see results move to to 2 new methods.

After you have tried every method discard the ones that are not producing results - and focus on the ones that are.

I must add another one to your list
      - "Affiliate Marketing"

If you are selling and already have customers, there is a good chance you will get high traffic websites ready to promote your website to earn commission. If they place SEO safe natural affiliate links you get SEO benefits too. If you can have 20 big sites you may be able to double your traffic. However you must have to work hard initially. Once done it is a lifetime asset for you.

I think you should add video advertising to your list as well...Video advertising is a great way to promote your website/services.

Forrester Research found that videos were 53 times more likely than traditional web pages to receive an organic first-page ranking with Americans viewing 15.8 billion video ads in May. Also if you want to generate sales, research has found that 64% of people take action after viewing video ads

Check out viddyad - create a video ad in minutes and see if this can help you increase traffic to your website. Free to create and share videos, using the world's largest database of royalty free stock footage. Let me know how you get on.

HI you forgot PPC ( pay per click)
This one has a problem: You need to pay for it via Google, Bing or Yahoo
Just start with free advertising and you will switch to paid advertising later.

Very good suggestions and easy to implement. I like the idea and picking 2 at a time as you can get overwhelmed otherwise.

    Hi Social Appls,

If you need to get some good web traffics more than 1000? isn't it? There is apparently more ways to increase your web traffics and referral traffics which are comes through other websites. I'm going to say you only which is mostly effected to SEO too.

    1. Social Bookmarks and Social Media

Those above 2 titles ID's are same concept and strategy but words are different probably that's the strategy, While you roaming in Social Media like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn actually you could grab some massive significant traffics to your blog. If you're in Tech niche site so all you can do is making a authority discussion in Some of Fan pages and Groups or else resolving some of problems in your Social Followers or Subscribers even you following someone. Try to create a castle through Facebook by making a fan page. Give away something useful to them. Share with your friends, Room mates and your families. You can generate more than 100000 traffics per day to your money making website.

    2. Write Consistently.

Actually you need a system post any kind of article to your website. When you writing something it should be "Taste of the Day" What is it actually? :O

It's simple : if you're in various topic of niche blog then you can try different kind of post each day and you've to schedule everything properly. just like for Monday : Weight loss tips Tuesday : Any offers Wednesday : something like food tips Thursday : Boom! Any kind of Affiliate stuffs to make some money to pocket haha!

Write attractively and it should attract your customer and traffics too.

keep a Simple Algorithm It's mine lol.

MY STUPID BLOG --> MY Visitors + (Commenting + Sharing) Reading = Sales

    Hi there

There are many ways to improve your web traffic depending on the angle of which you want to approach this.

Don't think this will be new to you but there are both Free and Paid Traffic Sources.

If you want to improve your traffic for free you could try Blog commenting/Forum Posting (With your Sig)/ Video creation etc/ Banner exchange/ Guest Blogging etc

That said all these methods are time consuming and you'd probably wouldn't want to waste time right? Then there is SEO, again Time consuming and it's pretty much a gambling game if you know little or zilch about SEO as your PR is not guaranteed to increase.

You need to ask yourself, how competitive is your niche/keyword. If it's super competitive then I wouldn't bother going the SEO route. However, if there is little competition, I'd recommend you pay someone here on the WF to do backlinkings/forum commenting/PR services for you.

Alternatively, you could try PPV (Pay Per View), Media Buys, Social Media Marketing (Facebook ads, Sponsored Tweets). (You can find out more on the WF or just google it)

I don't recommend PPC unless you're absoutely sure you know what you're doing.

Again, I don't know what your budget is, how much time you can spend on Advertising or even the nature of your website. You have to work those out yourself.

I wish you all the best

Hi mshajid, absolutely agree with you However, I don't think there were ever times where things could work in IM perfectly lol (Unless you're talking about some loopholes or exploits). You just need to try and see what's best for you and improvise along the way (For me, I stick with Paid Traffic)

Ohh! is it buddy? You're stick on with "Paid traffics". I'm always trying to make money by without investing money. So my traffics formula is trying create a consistent content which helps others easily to communicate with them. While communicate with them they'll suggest some referrals and referrals made more referrals.

Paying is just an Mutual investment traffics are generating a kind of flow. but most of times 38% coming targeted traffics i don't think that there is a good sales what about prince? Because i like to stick with SOLO Ads. but i don't like to invest.

It takes time and effort. Getting traffic requires creating something that makes people want to go out of their way for. That means creating something of real value that helps people and fulfills some sort of need. You'll need to think long and hard about precisely what it is you're selling, what's the need that you're fulfilling.

    Good luck~

try press releases, I get a retired journalist to write our and even pay him handsomely.

Why? our business has quadrupled, and we have a sneaky way of being about to make our news go viral, and we see tons of new subscribers and sales from doing this.

whatever I think does not matter, I am just giving you ideas. Realistically you should not be focusing on 80 ways to get traffic, what we do is focus on 2-3 different ways and get good at it, and I mean real good, so much so that you would be classed as an industry leader in your particular technique if asked.

Yes this will take some work, but traffic is realy about working smarter, using leverage and tweaking and testing results till you abosultely crush it. :-)

Do not look at traffic as getting people to your site.

Look at traffic in a whole new light of getting in the faces of your most likely prospect quickly, smartly and make him crave for more. Its how the new generation of marketers are doing things, and increasing conversion rates.

A lot of good advice in this thread. But I didn`t see youtube anywhere.

Youtube can be a trafficsource with a LOT of potential for any niche. Remember...youtubes search engine is the second biggest one...

-Find high traffic/low competition keywords. Do the onpage optimization yourself. Use the keyword in the title, tags and description. Link to your youtubevideo in the bottom of your description. You can get a lot of free backlinks here.

For the offpage optimization I recommend use fiverr.
-Buy views, likes, subscribers and comments as these are huge ranking factors.
-Buy embeds on web 2.0 s
    -Buy social bookmarking gigs.
    -linkwheels etc

Boy I see these kinds of posts all the time "how can I get traffic" .. and then what dont you see very often? You dont see a link to your site.

Sure there are tons of ways to get traffic but here is one people often forget. Change your attitude. You need to be in the mindset of always promoting. Heck the WF is a high PR site, ranked something like 158 in the USA by Alexa and gets tens of thousands of hits a day. You just had a chance to legitimately post a back link to your site and you missed it. Step 1: Change your attitude. Always be marketing.

    Build a list first thing.

That way, whenever you ad new content, you can advertise it to your list.

Don't only build an email list.

Also build a social media list, twitter; facebook; google+, whatever.

The more places you can hit people, the better.

I agree with this, social media is working pretty well these days, and I think the cost of ads, once you have some killer copy is well worth it.

You have to be careful with facebook though, people are there to check their hair, and pic profiles, and hang out with friends, so if you are advertising, make sure you are doing it in their faces. It takes a bit of getting use to, but a great way to increase your traffic fast.

Here's a general rule I tend to follow:

    Fast Traffic
    Cheap/Free Traffic
    Good Quality Traffic

Out of these three things, you can only pick 2.

If you want fast, cheap traffic, it won't be good
If you want fast, good traffic, it won't be cheap
If you want good, cheap traffic, it won't be fast

I'm assuming you want fast traffic. You should do some advertising, and alot of it. Advertise everywhere if your budget allows for it. How did you get 500 visitors in the first place? Do more of what you've been doing to get your 500, and over time your traffic will increase.

But your question still sounds vague. Are you getting 500 hits per day/week/month...?

=>> Are you getting significant leads/subscribers and sales/profits from those 500 viewers?

    • If yes, then I assume you can accommodate the demand of the added traffic you want, and that you need more traffic to generate more significant leads/subscribers and sales/profits, correct? I also assume this means you could most likely go to specific online places where your target market hangs out, and use some of your profits to pay for advertising spots in those places, correct?

    • If no, then I believe you first need to find out why you aren't generating significant leads/subscribers and sales/profits from those 500 viewers, before you begin to study and implement ways to get more traffic, and you should probably answer this question before you customize and implement traffic generation campaigns for your website:

=>> What are your specific objectives in generating more traffic for your website? Here are some specific instances that could be relevant to what you must probably think of, before deciding to implement paid and free ways to generate more traffic for your website:

    • Based on our test results, we don't need to drive traffic to our website, in order to generate leads and sales/profits for our B2B (Business to Business) departments. Why?

To sign up prospect corporate clients, we directly contact our targets and get referrals from our existing clients. Our B2B departments handle long term contracts with only a handful of corporate clients at a time. Getting more traffic means getting more leads and sales/profits, though this also means we must scale up our available resources to accommodate the increase in demand, and scaling up costs resources (not to mention many different issues and problems), and we're quite good with our B2B departments handling only a handful of corporate clients at a time.

    • Based on our test results, we also don't need to drive traffic to our website, in order to generate leads and sales/profits for our per order department. Why?

We just use the marketplaces of this forum here among other IM/MMO/SEO forums with active membership bases comprised of our target clients to advertise the services of our per order department. We update and bump our ads in these places whenever we need to generate leads and sales/profits, but this is after we scale up our resources, which is why we don't frequently update and bump our ads in these places, since we're already doing good with our per order department only handling our target orders at a time.

    • We mostly implement PPC advertising campaigns in local sites whenever we need to scale up our manpower resources so as to accommodate increased demand with our B2B and per order departments. Why?

Based on our test results, it's more cost-effective to implement PPC campaigns for this, than to sponsor job fairs, pay headhunting companies and so on.

It depends on your niche of course. Go where the people are. Do some research on your target market and find where they are hanging out. Is it on forums, discussion groups, social media, video sites etc. Once you find that out, draw out a plan on how you'll use that type of traffic.

Some obvious places where most of the niche traffic is:

    1. Search traffic
    2. Social media
    3. Forums/discussion groups etc
    4. Youtube and other video sites
    5. Other blogs (people who read popular blogs in your niche)

So, how to get traffic from these sources?

    1. Do SEO on your sites. Post high quality content and point some links from article directories, web 2.0 etc.
    2. Twitter profiles with quality and helpful tweets, content-filled fan pages, good quality pins on pinterest (if your niche is popular on pinterest) are just some examples on how you can get traffic from social media.
    3. Search for popular forums in your niche, join them and then contribute there. Post valuable information/posts there with your signature link pointing to your site.
    4. Review videos, tutorial videos and any kind of helpful videos pointing to your website. This will help you in terms of traffic and SEO.
    5. Post guest posts on other popular blogs to piggy back on their traffic. You can also post high quality blog comments on popular blogs.

These are just some ways to get traffic. There are a 1000 other ways; you just have to find the relevant ones to your niche and scale it up. Good luck.

There are so many ways for you to get traffic into your own blogs. I would simply recommend the following:

    1. On-Page SEO (make sure you know the proper basic ways of doing this to your website, especially the Google Panda and Penguin era).
    2. Social media (Facebook friends/fan pages/group, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc., which you really need social signals)
    3. Social bookmarks (This will give you a nice boost to your rankings)
    4. Forum marketing
    5. List building (The money and traffic is in the list!)
    6. Craigslist and local classified ads
    7. Quality blog comments and guest blogging
    8. Document sharing sites
    9. Web 2.0 (highly recommended to rank your website well)
    10. GOV and EDU sites
    11. Youtube and other video sharing sites
    12. Article and press release directories

Hope these will help you a lot to get traffic going. Cheers!

What you need to aim for is focus on particular on just a few techniques of traffic generation not a wide array. Once you master one or fail at one, move onto the next. It will be to much to focus on several traffic generation methods when starting out or even at the early stages.

    Here are some advices:

Search engine optimization is about ways to get your website to the top of search engines. This cannot be stressed enough. You can do this by generating useful content like articles and blogs, by social networking and the development of multimedia. This sounds easy but it’s a lot of hard work. Still, you can also strategically spread your content in different websites while keeping your target niche in mind. Be very careful not to over-link pages within your site, this is a new penalty from Google's most recent update.

After on-page optimization, you can go build your back links to your site. With backlinks, search engines will directly index your websites after finding the links. No need to submit your website to the search engines themselves. Your backlinks will do the work for you.

Offer free, original, and quality content on your site. This is the most effective means for increasing traffic to a website; offering people something that they cannot obtain elsewhere, or at least, not to the level of quality that you are offering it. Ways in which to ensure that your content is of higher quality than competitors or is unique include:

Creating content that is helpful and useful. Simply cobbling together information from another website will not generate traffic. You need to offer visitors the information they need to achieve a goal, solve a problem, be entertained, find out quality news or have a good laugh.
Keep it fresh. For repeat visits, it is crucial to provide regular updates to the website, especially in frequently viewed zones. Add fresh content every few days if possible; at a minimum, weekly.
To have a fully functioning and successful website, you need to make sure your tags are in place and your links are not broken. You also need to submit a sitemap.xml file to Google to have your website show up in Google's search engines. There is a tool that inspects websites just in case you missed tags and links and it creates a free sitemap.xml file. It gives you results in minutes.
Outsource article writing. If you hate the thought of generating content yourself, or your team is not writing-savvy, consider outsourcing this end of the task. Depending on the length, content, specialization and quality required, prices can start as low as US$5 per article. However, don't neglect attempting to write your own work - who better than you knows your own business, hobby or club and can express precisely what needs to be said? Just sit down and start writing an article. You may be impressed when you're done!
Add video to your landing pages (VLP - Video Landing Page) that is informative and relevant to your site. Respected studies show that good video can improve conversions and page ranking more than most any other item you can add to your pages.
Use landing pages for fast fulfillment of your PPC advertisement.
Launch some contests. It'll draw you instant traffic. You can Goggle search some free sponsor program and do such contest frequently.

Use social media. Post compelling content and you’ll soon build a loyal following. Follow and share with other users, who may reciprocate and follow you. Keeping up to date with social media and finding time to post can be tricky, but it’s well worth it. Let people talk and become part of a community and they’ll promote your content for you. This will save you a great deal of time, and they will share much further than via conventional strategies.

Do that and your traffic will grow!

You can rank videos on 1st page of YT and Google in 50 min or less, here is the proof --> Google Todd Gross Reviews - this ranking video was done in 50 min and it still on 1st page of Google. You can rank high and drive traffic to affiliate offers, WSO, Clickbank, local businesses and more, let me know if you are interested.

I feel that there are many ways to generate traffic. Traffic can be either paid or free. Obviously paid will be sources like PPC and solo ads. Free will be like SEO and article marketing. The main distinction however will be that paid traffic enables you to get results faster whereas free traffic are free but they require your time. If you have the money, go for paid traffic. If you have the time, go for free traffic and used the extra cash to expand other aspects of your business.

My favourite traffic methods are twitter, G+ and forum marketing but if you've got some cash to spare you can give solo ads a go, it's much quicker than the free traffic.

first you need a funnel as in--
    first sell
    upsell
    upsell
upsell -- no you dont need a bunch but more then one helps

now you need to learn each method that others are doing work to get traffic to their site

Pick one of those methods to drive traffic and create an entry point (squeeze page into your funnel)
learn all the ways that you can (research - pen and paper) to use that method (example - PPC, there are multiple ways to use PPC to drive traffic)
    test one of those ways
if it works, tweak until profitable
if it does not work see if you can see a fall off in traffic and fix it then reanalyze
after you have exhausted all the ways inside of that particular method...

    move to the next method

It all starts with niche and being focused on one thing at a time.

there is so much to say about this subject that I and many others could write on here all night long and still never be correct without you TAKING ACTION and testing and tracking.

    Joint venture.

    Either:

    A) Connect with other websites and bloggers and create guest posts that will generate higher back links and visibility.

    Or

    B) Buy solo ads. They are cheap and easier to get started than other traffic methods. Have a funnel in place to recoup your investment before buying.
