What kind of format do you guys like for dating/self help type e-books? Do you insert a lot of artwork etc. or is it mostly text?

    "Eyes on the prize."

Keep the book stocked with images that show them the end goal.

It depends on what kind of e-book you're making and who you are targeting.

But most of the ones that I've been selling are just plain text. I only use pictures when I want to show a demonstration of something.

Pictures are only useful if they SUPPORT what you're trying to say.

Often times, they're not needed at all.

with ebooks, the only picture I'd be that concerned with is my cover.

other than that, You really don't need any.

People are buying the information and solutions... they're not buying the pictures
unless the pictures are part of the solution.

so, if you ever sell a "how to remodel your kitchen cabinets" ebook... then pictures may be needed.

but for most self-help or dating ebooks... pictures aren't even needed.

I'm going to do that but as I have been exploring things I seem to notice that everyone just copies the top person assuming that is the optimal way to do things. Seems logical, but could just be self fulfilling.

I'm going to assume staying near and dear to traditional text is your best option. As a high school teacher, I know that there are many readers who like books with lots of pictures, but in the end, these people aren't really readers in the first place. People who purchase texts do so for information-- whether it be entertainment or to solve a problem. I would likely only use images if it helps reinforce the lesson I'm teaching, otherwise straight text will do.

    Good luck with your marketing!
