Are 3 letter domains from new TLD's worth anything?

I was doing random keyword research one day, and typing stuff into domain registrars just to see if I could find anything cool.

After typing in some random letters because I was bored, I noticed that a random 3 letter domain was available on the .nu TLD.

I'm thinking its worthless, but idk, curiosity got the better of me I guess?

So I registered this random lettered xas.nu domain.

Wondering if that would be worth anything, or maybe I should just sit on it for a while.

Wasted your money dude... It's not worth anything now or 10 years from now...

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

As a general rule I wouldn't bother buying anything that you don't personally see the value of, or would like to keep for yourself... unless it's really cheap, of course, and you're just curious to see what comes of it.

Definitely not a sustainable money making strategy, but it might lead somewhere interesting. Or nowhere. Who knows!

It was free actually, some registrar had a promotion going.

So it didn't cost me anything, but I just thought it was cool that I could own a 3 letter domain which I always thought were super rare.

If its a .com, .net, .org then yes... otherwise not really. There are even some 3 letter .cc domains you can pickup if you get them at the right time.

        Ahh... alright.

I thought I was being sneaky/lucky, but I guess not.

Well, thanks for the advice, guess I'll just sit on it for a year and think..

        I do not agree.

The only time that it would be worth anything is if there is a demand for it.

It doesn't matter if the extenstion is .com, .au, .ca, or .info.

it's the demand that give worth not the extension.

So, to the OP, if you are going to buy domains whether they are 3 letters or not, see if there is a demand first.

If there is no demand, then there is no worth.

Sure but if the domain is NOT registered, that is basically proof of no demand.

bit.ly wasn't worth anything until they MADE it something. Domains, except for a few, aren't inherently worth much on their own.

I own lmgt.com (as well as iots.com, wbat.net, etc)... yet I'm certainly not making as much money from that as I am other, longer domains.

If it's free then I'd use the domain to shorten links in your niche, but as far as the domain itself being worth much in the future, don't count on it

I would never spend any real money to register those types of domains. I doubt that you'll ever get a decent offer for one.

Google X-rays And Silver. Might be able to figure out something from there.

Great idea man. That's actually a really smart spin on it -- like having the website be an abbreviation. Thanks!
