I can only speak about what I've done and I've only been using twitter to build my lists for about 4/5 months now. I basically set-up a twitter account for the niche. I search out people interested in the niche (via keyword search). Follow them. I also search out any 'big hitters' in my niche and follow them. Once I start getting followers I start posting on topic tweets once a day. Once I've got a few hundred I offer a free on topic report by them signing up to my list. Can start slowly but really starts to snowball after a few weeks. Hope that helps

That sounds like it could become a lot of work once you start to scale, how do you handle it? Where does the content come from?

There's a number of ways to schedule tweets including using aweber or one of the twitter tools. Of course you can outsource this as well. You can simply find on topic articles or blog posts and post these.

        Hope that helps?

yes, I use Aweber's Blog Broadcast update now but the tweet & link they send isn't particularly enticing, I'll check-out some others.

This is great advise that Rich gave. I like how he spells out the steps to build his list. What I have been missing was searching out people interested my niche (via keyword search). I was doing more of a hit and miss. Guess I should have came here first. I know I would get answers! Thanks Rich!

Adding to what Richard and others have mentioned above, get involved in conversations directly related to your niche that you want to build lists in. Show people your real and build active conversations. This builds a stronger bond and will aid you in getting a better percentage of people following you to listen and hopefully DO what you ask them to do(join list/buy now), when you ask them. Stimulate conversation about your niche like you were at the back of the room in a seminar.
