Hi All,

As the title suggest, I'm getting tired. I started pursuing the internet marketing dream of working for myself and fire by boss since 2007 and till now I haven't even earn enough to pay for my hosting over the years. So I'm here sincerely ask any of you for advise.

I'm tired of hearing/reading about so and so make how much on the internet and started to work from home. I just cannot understand what did I do wrong.

I want to hear from you all "real people" and not those guru's student, testimonial or sale letter saying that they make lots of money on the internet. I want to know this is really possible from the real people. I'm not looking at millions, just enough to match my current income so I can quit my job and work for myself.

Some background of me. Although I started since 2007, I did took a breaks in between because I did see result. Got demoralize but eventually pick myself up and start again.

I have tried PPC marketing - didn't work. Tried Adsense - made $1/month on avg, got my account banned (unknown reason). Clickbank (2 sales). Did SEO for niche site - manage to get to page 1 but no sales. Somehow manage to get another adsense account and this time manage to make some money with niche site but got banned again for unknown reason. Now I'm trying my hand on amazon affiliate.

Can some kind soul please help me on this?

Thank you
lamy

    Clickbank (2 sales)

You made this work, do what you did here and work harder at it, and scale it up.

Also give up with adsense. You got banned, you wont be able to use it again.

I have to emphasis that the 2 sales are over 2-3 years and sadly I didn't know what I did to get the sales.

And yes, given up on adsense. concentrating on amazon now.

@seonutshell May I know if you have see result on your venture? if yes, is it enough do pursue internet marketing full time?

Completely agree with this. You were able to get 2 sales, now you just need to scale it up.

I am sorry you are demotivated right now. Hang in there. Focus on what IS working for you rather than what isn't, because we all go through a lot of failure, and trial and error before finding something that works.

      Good luck.

Well Lamy to me it sounds like you are putting your eggs into to many baskets.. You need to focus on 1 thing and 1 thing only, focus on a system that has been proven to work and has stood the test of time.

Trust me I know what it's like and so does many other Warriors who went through the trial and error phase.

I never made a dime online in 3.5 years, so what I did was sit back and look in on my business to see what the problem was and I came to the quick solution that I was focusing on to many things at one time instead of a proven business model.

Don't get discouraged honestly and don't quit keep pushing forward and you will get there buddy, Just focus on "1" proven business model until you master it and then move on to other proven business models.

When I started focusing on 1 business model and put my heart and soul into it things started picking up for me and 1.5 years ago, I fired my boss and became a full time Internet Marketer.

It sounds like you may need some Coaching, There are plenty of excellent coaches you can find here on the Warrior Forum so use the WSO Section to find them.

    I'm a real person - 18 year old student.

I've made a few thousand online in the past year, not a lot, but enough to pay for extra stuff/presents for myself that I wouldn't otherwise have.

Forget about methods, SEO, email marketing, everything. Forget about all that for a second.

There's only one way to make money, and that's by actually taking action..

Now this sounds stupid, but its the truth, stop reading/trying new methods/learning.

Just pick one general method (start a website, start making an application, whatever). Just start doing something, because that's the only way you will get anywhere.

Focus on one thing - creating value.

Just create someone that you would personally pay for, be it information, a product, or a service.

And once you have created something that actually has inherent value, you will be able to sell that/or get traffic/whatever.

Just focus on creating value, and you will figure out really quickly how easy it is to make money.

Also - get off the forum if you are just wasting all your time here... its not worth it.

      Lamy,

I'm going to give you some honest and sincere advice that you probably won't hear from anyone else.

If you truly feel that you have done all you can and have given this career your best shot and you're still sick and tired of IM . . . I would say . . . get out right now. Don't waste any more of your time here. Find something else you are passionate about and give that your whole energy.

The things you mentioned you tried but failed with (PPC, Adsense, Clickbank, SEO) have all been money-makers for some people, but of course, not everyone that has tried them has been successful.

If, on the other hand, you feel like you haven't done everything you can to be successful just yet, then there is still hope that you can find success.

Your own success in IM won't depend upon anyone else but you.

Systems aren't going to save you - they're a dime a dozen and freely available here on the WF.

Products and courses and ebooks aren't going to save you - you know that by now. If this is all it took, there would be a huge success ratio of business startups. Reality is, nearly all startups fail.

Coaches and mentors aren't going to save you although I personally believe that a good mentor can increase your chances to be successful by a great deal if you find an honest and proven person to help you.

You are going to have to be the one to figure out how you can be successful in Internet marketing. It's always been so and always will be so.

Some discover the key that unlocks their success fairly quickly, others it takes years and years of failure and still some others never unlock the door to profitably working for themselves.

All decisions about your future will have to be made by you.

The best to you in your quest,

      Steve

      Absolutely this.

Building on what Mogly said, you can also determined what's valuable to people by looking at what they're buying, then creating your own offer. Your own offer can be more of the same, in which case you're selling a commodity at commodity prices or differentiated in some way in which case you can charge a premium.

E.g. people buy a lot of clothes, so you decide to sell clothes. But if you make a generic T-Shirt you're competing with a million Indian sweat shop workers. Instead you differentiate yourself and make clothes specifically for very tall, very big, very fat people. The kind of people Indian sweat shop owners can't even comprehend exist.

  • Switch from a full time affiliate/opportunity seeking mindset, to a business owner mindset.

    1. You MUST create a new REAL product / business / service in your chosen niche/passion.
    2. Build a sales force (other affiliates) to constantly generate traffic to it.
    3. Capture leads from that traffic and convert that traffic into paying customers!
    4. Increase the dollar amount for every sale you make. (up sell /cross sell, etc).
    5. Create and offer more new products / services to your "existing" customers.

Then, either sell this business, or find people to run it, as you rinse and repeat.

Doing anything else is a waste of time. Internet Marketing is not a business in itself, (ppc marketing, adsense, amazon...etc) but marketing a real business (your business with real products and services) on the internet will solve your issues.

There, I just saved you a few grand on courses.

^^^ this. Build a business that fills a need or solves a problem and has a customer base that you can sell to over and over again.

So instead of thinking 'How can I make a lot of money" think "How can I help people that need xxx". Then focus on that one solution. Don't give up when you don't make a lot of money overnight.

I think you need to examine what you do each time you attempt something. How deep do you go? How long do you give it?

A lot of people get one part done then quit if they didn't get lucky and get a sale right away even though they WERE on the right track. I've seen a lot of people quit 2 feet from the finish line.

Take a breath, relax for a minute and re-evaluate your situation....

    1. What Sites Did you run Adsense on? Was it good Quality or Did you use a cookie cutter package that 5,000 others used (Google doesnt like those) People Buy "YOU" because they trust you and your content....

    2. How did you promote your Click bank products? Where did you put your hops? Did you try more than 1 Location?

    3. Your Paying for hosting, So you obviously have sites, What other ways are you using to monetize?

    4. What Do YOU Love the most? What Are YOU Good at? What do ALL of your Friends and Family Come to you for? Answer ANY of those Questions and Create a VIDEO SERIES or maybe even an EBOOK and Sell Or Give away To Build your List......

    Possibilities are endless.

The obvious answer is to test and retest, Just because one thing didn't work for you, doesn't mean nothing will. In 6 years you have a baseline of how others are making money, now use that baseline, evaluate your own plan, and execute.....

I am NOO EXPERT, But Just a few days talking to the Warriors on here and reading there input has been Awesome for my business.

    Best of luck

All these things that you 'tried' ..yet you didnt do the one thing that everyone who knows what there doing will tell you to do. Its fairly simple.

    1) Create a product that you give away for free or very low cost. (make it a high quality product)
    2) Build a list
    3) Build a relationship with that list
    4) Every once in a while toss them a affiliate offer.

Im not a student of anyone and Im not a guru or any of that stuff, but I did make $13,629 in the last 6 months doing just what I told you.

Now comes the hard part though. The part that separates people who do well from the people who do not. Action. I litterly just told you what to do. Ready to do it?

    Lamy,

I was once in your shoes and I started IM back in 2009. Today I'm doing much better and making real good money.

In my opinion AMAZON is really easy, the easiest way to make money as compared to say list building, clickbank or adsense but you will need a ton of traffic to earn a "decent" income.

In the 4 years online, I learnt that

1)having your own product is the best way to make money but it requires resources you may not have when you're just starting out.

    2) Paid traffic is the best way to go because you can scale. I'll never only rely on free traffic.

    3) Stick to BIG money niches, Weight loss, dog training, make money online niche are nice but what about FINANCE? Finance niche is competitive yes but if you do well you can make really good money. Some offers can go up to $120 per LEAD.(no credit card required) All you need to do to get commisioned is to get someone interested in say Life insurance to fil up a short form and you get paid
Its easier to convert compared to a sale and there is just a ton of traffic for FINANCE Niche.

By the sounds of it, you've been at this since 2007 but never actually tried to sell anything of your own.

    Your answer is right there.

The minute you get your own 'buy now' buttons online (selling a product or service) you have far better chance of making money. Become an affiliate marketer after you've built up your list of buyers.

It is. There are plenty of real people here for whom it's proved possible.

It was possible for me ... but I have no idea how much more difficult it might have been if I'd also had a full-time job when I started. As it was, I didn't (I was a college student doing a not-particularly-arduous course and was able to spend about 30 hours per weeks at it). It was still far from plain sailing. I earned almost nothing for about my first 4 months.

It doesn't work quickly for many people. Your first few hundred dollars is typically a learning curve. It's easy to get disillusioned with that one. It works well for some people

Sounds pretty typical, to me. I have great difficulty taking that seriously as a "business model". And it's permanently dependent on Google, too, which can't be a good thing.

Call me a skepchick but I always "wonder" when people have had accounts "banned" from things/places "for unknown reasons" (unless it's at Blogger, in which case that's completely normal). This doesn't fill me with encouragement, to be honest. You must have had an inkling about the reason, surely? Or did you just not care?

Very common. SEO traffic isn't much use for affiliate sales, is it?

Another unknown reason? Either you're very unlucky or you don't learn from your mistakes.

If it's the former, then at least it was only a poor business model that closed you out twice, anyway. If it's the latter, then read Steve's impressive post above (#10) a few times and think seriously about giving up, because you'll never make a living through internet marketing if you can't learn from your mistakes, and you need to know that, and this sounds like the time you need to know it.

There are a number of well known marketeers in Singapore. My first suggestion would be to try to make contact with them through this forum or otherwise to see whether they could help. I would not get an AdSense account again. You were probably banned the second time round because Google suspect that the second account was connected to the first.

I'm definitely no expert but the times I've had success was when I had a truly irresistible offer. Look for offers that are FREE to sign up for and solve a problem. You must know that if you're using SEO to promote a site that this a long term strategy and your promotions may take a long while to show up as actual sales. If you give up early your offer will not hit Google's page one where it needs to be to make sales.

You need to decide what you want to do because a site designed for SEO will look much different than one built for PPC or AdSense. You also have to remember that in the end it will be your end users that will decide your success so always give them value.

Create a product, any product. In your case, make it something digital so you won't have to stock physical inventory.

Create a website for that product.

Create a sales page selling that product. If you don't know how to write sales copy, learn the art of copywriting...there are tons of <$20 books on the subject at amazon that will give you a masters level knowledge.

    Next focus on:

    1. getting people to your site
    2. capturing their email addresses
    3. seeing how many site visitors purchase

...after that it's a matter of focusing on tweaking your sales letter to convert
better and continuing to drive people to your site.

"Real people" are definitely making money online.....I'm one of them! I haven't hit 6 figures yet, but I've gotten up to a few thousand a month.

I've made money with SEO, CPA, Adsense, Clickbank, Amazon, ghostwriting, product creation, and most recently I put out my first WSO last month (and got WSO of the day too...sorry, had to do a little bragging there lol).

I'm nobody special....but the one thing I'd say that sets me apart from people who aren't making any money, is that I get OBSESSED about this stuff. I mean like, so obsessed that my family and friends get sick of hearing me talk about internet marketing all the time.

If you get super obsessed about something, you just find a way to make it happen, simple as that.

The thing is, my definition of "obsessed" vs. other peoples' definition isn't always the same. Spending 8 hours watching videos from some awesome WSO you bought and thinking about it isn't obsessed.

But actually doing the thing they talk about and following through with it, staying up till 2 in the morning, skipping out on hanging out with friends and not watching TV.....THAT'S being obsessed.

I have tried PPC marketing - didn't work.
You've gotten some pretty good advice in this thread (and some not so good advice too).

I wanted to focus on you trying "PPC marketing". Using PPC works and still works extremely well with plenty of offers out there. It's simple in concept, but not easy to implement. It's not that it doesn't work, it just doesn't work with certain offers and it also depends on how you prequalify your leads and what type of sales funnel you put them through (if any).

There are thousands upon thousands of offers that work well with PPC (and other forms of paid advertising). The thing is, most people that "try" Pay-Per-Click only did just that, they only tried it. They didn't really use it the way they were supposed to, meaning that they didn't perform enough testing, they didn't tweak their conversions, they didn't try to beat the control group (or ad), they had horrible to mediocre sales copy, their marketing funnel sucked major earlobes, etc. (Ya get the picture).

I've been at this for a long time and I worked my ass off the first couple of years. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to quit, but I knew other people were succeeding at this so I knew it was possible. I just had to focus on getting through the learning phase by doing it, testing, etc.

And it wasn't just the hard work that got me to where I wanted to be. It was actually focusing on the things that made money.

For example: many people in this thread advised you to create your own product and promote it. Hey, I'm all for that because that's where my own marketing bias lies, however, without knowing much about you or what your core strengths and weaknesses are, it's really tough to make those kinds of suggestions.

In general terms, the things that make you money are:

    1. Have an offer or offers (your own or someone else's or both).
    2. Obtain traffic to test that offer.
    3. Keep on testing to increase your conversions. With one of my original websites back in 2004, I ran tests using a variety of keywords on Google Adwords, Yahoo, and MSN (now Bing) for a period of nearly 2 hours.
    4. Build your own tribe (i.e. list, forum, your own community, etc.)

We didn't get into profit for roughly 3 months, so I learned a lot about PPC on all 3 platforms during that period of time.

Though I am discussing PPC, I am not advising that you should necessarily go down that road again, that will solely be up to you. I wanted to make the point that PPC isn't something that one just "tries". You have to have a solid foundation on how it works, you have to learn to write salescopy that will get the targeted eyeballs that you want, you have to learn how to track all those clicks and see how many of them convert into sales, etc.

There are people on Clickbank that make well over $50,000 a month so Clickbank is still a good marketplace if you know what you're doing.

The first thing I advise people to do in most situations is to get absolute clarity on what they want. Because you solidify that in your head it make finding your path a whole lot easier.

So first ask yourself, do you really want to start your own business using internet marketing as a promotional medium?

Think all the advice written here is good. Think it really boils down to a couple of things 1) Taking action and executing - stop chasing after the shiny new object and focus on 1 thing and master it 2) Find yourself a good mentor and coach - that will literally cut years off your time. I know people who just started in IM that are making money online because they had a good mentor. There are others I know making several thousand given the mentorship....finally, the journey is a lot tougher if you're looking here and not with a group of people and supportive people. best

The best piece of advice I can give you is build a list....

I know you have probably heard this a thousand times over the years you have been online -- but that is because IT WORKS!

The thing is, people only buy from other people they know, like, and trust

With email marketing, you can develop a great relationship fast with your customers, by providing massive value for free to them every week.

While giving them free information, simply find high quality products that will enhance what you have teaching them.

I will add, the key is to FOCUS, and take CONSISTENT DAILY ACTION BUILDING YOUR LIST.

The reason people fail in this business, is because they are opportunity seekers jumping from one method to the other.

So Focus, build your list, get they to trust and like you, then money will come.

    Hope this helps you

Hi lamy, I've been earning a good full-time living online since 1998. I hope that makes me a "real person" and qualified to comment.

Congrats on your persistence - six years is a heck of a long time to keep plugging away at something without success. For me, it was two years before I earned decent money.

With any luck, those 6 years you've spent in online marketing should have taught you a lot about yourself. I suggest you grab a good old-fashioned pen and piece of paper (there's something about writing by hand that makes thoughts flow better) and make a list of all your strengths and weaknesses.

Take your time. Put some really serious thought into it.

Choosing from all the advice available, you have to figure out what YOU are comfortable doing. One suggestion was promoting financial products. I don't know about you, but I cringe at the thought of trying to write about binary options. Wouldn't suit me at all. How about you?

After six years, you must have seen a lot different business models online.

Design a business based on your strengths. A business that provides something genuinely USEFUL. Preferably, a business that is memorable, one that people will talk about. A business that makes you feel good. An asset you can sell one day, if you wish.

Even in a business based on your strengths, there will still be plenty of weaknesses for you to patch up, so make a list of what you need to know, and write down the steps you're going to take to gain the knowledge you need.

Create your own product? Good idea, but there are thousands of affiliate programs and millions of products that pay affiliate commissions, which to me seems a simpler route. It leaves you free to choose whatever you want to promote.

I could advise you, for example, to publish a newsletter (which has worked well for me because it gives repeated opportunities to make a sale) but if you hate writing, you'll find newsletter publishing tough.

However, ALL marketing involves writing - persuasive writing - and if you're not good at it, you'll need to practise until you are.

Maybe not a newsletter, perhaps just an email list you use to advise readers of updates to your blog/website? Maybe just a long autoresponder series, working for you while you sleep?

When you've designed the business you're going to build, picture yourself running it for six months, a year, five years... Are you feeling comfortable? Are you feeling enthusiastic?

If you're not, go back to the drawing board and tweak that business model until you DO feel good about it and ARE enthusiastic about it.

I'm a bit impulsive and I get bored easily. I've started projects and then abandoned them without giving them a fair chance. I'm wondering if you're the same? If you are, it's REALLY important that you look into the future and imagine how you'll feel running the business you're planning. My best projects have been ones I planned carefully, and were based on my strengths and interests.

In my honest opinion, you need to be an authority. Not just someone who sells other people's products, but someone who others can trust and look up to.

Whether this is achieved through product creation, coaching, blogging, etc. People buy through people they trust.

I made pretty decent money as an affiliate for a long time, but when I got into product creation, my income skyrocketed ten-fold.

Make something of value for people and they'll come to you.

    Hey mate,

I know frustrations may arrive if you don't see success from there. But let me ask you something. What did you do when you had generated a couple Clickbank sales? If you still remember about that, please scale it up until you get the results you had always wanted for good. To tell you honestly, Adsense really sucks! Don't put all of your bread crumbs in a silver platter.

If one method really made you 2 Clickbank sales, all you had to do is stick with it and scale it up. Remember, the more you fail, the more you are advantageous to know what's good and what's bad. Conquer your fear from failures!

Fail, fail, fail, fail, fail, fail, fail, fail, fail..................SUCCESS!!!!

      Its really not that difficult.

What makes it difficult is the fact that you are bombarded with so many ways
to do things confusion sets in. You become dazed and confused. You try so many things
      and nothing works.

Unsubscribe from all those marketing email list you belong to.

Do some research and find a starving crowd niche. These are all over
      the internet.

Find out what problem these people need solved.

Find a solution whether it be an affiliate product or create a product of your own.

Direct link to these offers or setup an email marketing campaign where you collect

their emails so you can continue to market to them for years offering more solutions.

      Drive traffic to the solution.

Focus on just one problem at a time. Expand in this problem and find other things

      to offer. Become the authority.

This is not a quick get rich plan to follow, but one that will continue to grow and

supply you the income you desire.

This really simple plan does work.

      Don't complicate things. "Focus"

Here's the secret to making money online:

The more passive income you want down the road, the more work you need to put in up front.

OK... maybe that's not the only secret, but it's a big one.

The truth is, the easiest way to make money online is to just pick a service area and freelance it up. Of course, nobody wants to do this, because it looks too much like having a job, but it's more likely to work for 99% of people.

    Here's a joke:

Question: How Do You Live The 4 Hour Workweek?

Answer: Work 80 Hours A Week And Tell Everybody You're Only Working 4 Hours.

Seriously, the dudes who earn "passive income" are all putting in more hours, on average, than your typical employee or freelancer. They want you to think it's all fun and games but the truth is, passive income is the hardest way to make money online. You'll probably do better playing online poker.

That's a good one. I noticed something form the first 100 millionaires, they all worked their asses off even if things where outsourced they where go getters, hard workers, on top of everything and always learning and masterminding. Of course they where not allowed to tell anyone they worked hard that is a dirty word today.

To me the problem you have is that you are focusing on too many things at once.

I did exactly the same thing about 4 years ago. I started with list building and made a few sales with my list so decided to move on to something else, and that pattern went on and on until I realised that I don't NEED to be focusing on more than one or two things at once.

So now, I'm just focusing on one thing and that's list building. It has my 100% attention and I drive traffic to ONE squeeze page. I collect leads, have an upsell, build a relationship and promote other products to that list. That's my job

So go back to something that previously worked for you, then work at it and scale it up.

    [QUOTE=lamy;8327178]Hi All,

As the title suggest, I'm getting tired. I started pursuing the internet marketing dream of working for myself and fire by boss since 2007 and till now I haven't even earn enough to pay for my hosting over the years. So I'm here sincerely ask any of you for advise.

Hi there. I can sympathize with you to some extent. I quit my job 3 years ago too but I kept that " internet marketing dream" away from my mind and it helped. Sometimes, you have big expectations ( and there's nothing wrong with this) but when they fail to materialize, the disappointment is huge.

I'm tired of hearing/reading about so and so make how much on the internet and started to work from home. I just cannot understand what did I do wrong.

One piece of advice here; Stop reading about them. How do you know everything they say is true? Secondly, it's best to focus on your own work first before salivating or getting frustrated about other people's success. Been there, done that.

I want to hear from you all "real people" and not those guru's student, testimonial or sale letter saying that they make lots of money on the internet. I want to know this is really possible from the real people. I'm not looking at millions, just enough to match my current income so I can quit my job and work for myself.

Yes, I agree. Guru has a negative connotation. Depending on what you want to do with your internet marketing, there are plenty of good people out there. You know, those who don't have flashy sales letters etc. I got very down at one point and stumbled upon Tiffany Dow's Ghostwriting Cash Course. I tried it, worked hard and started making money. Offering service is a great way to start. You can learn whilst you earn, as she says. I am not affiliated by the way.

Some background of me. Although I started since 2007, I did took a breaks in between because I did see result. Got demoralize but eventually pick myself up and start again.

Then, you want to pick yourself up again. Pick something, work it HARD! Dig in until you've exhausted the course, product etc and made money. Then, you can move onto something else and gradually built up something new.

I have never tried PPC, so I'll pass on this. I have made many sales with Clickbank but at the time, I was using ARTICLE DIRECTORY MARKETING. It's totally defunct these days and I prefer offering my writing services.

Anyway, good luck with it all. Don't give up. Find something you like that has potential and work it hard!

    Hi,
I can totally relate. Internet marketing is not brain surgery, but, it sounds like you need a coach.
You need focus in this business. A coach will keep you on track. Stay away from the "shiny new object syndrome". Don't keep buying new products. There is no magic bullet, even though, the product sounds to good to be true.
You do have to have a budget for your business. One should be for a coach. Whatever you do, don't give up. Keep on trucking!! I have the name of a good coach, if you are interested.
PM me and I can give you details.
By the way, I'm not getting any compensation for the coach's info.
    Good luck with everything!

You have to learn from your mistakes and go ahead. Making money online is a battle because you face fierce competition.

You have to find good affiliate products that are really helpful and will keep sending you commissions.

You should also provide a service online, depending on your skills. It’s easier to sell a service online than selling affiliate products, but you will find competition everywhere.

Perhaps you could also try CPA offers instead of trying to make sales.

Keep studying and improving your techniques.

im isn't for everybody, most will never find any real success w it. not trying to be pessimistic, just realistic. it's hard work, especially at the beginning, but those that are successful have simply kept pushing until they found what worked. also, just because an endeavor didn't produce the financial gain desired doesn't necessarily mean it was a failure. the biggest breakthroughs i've had have followed "failed" attempts that taught me exactly what not to do. as mentioned earlier, stick to one thing for a while. if after some extended period of time and serious effort u just can't make it work, then maybe consider changing to another area of im. i believe that if one really wants to make it in this biz, so long as they continue to diligently move forward while learning from what they've previously done and applying that knowledge to what they're currently doing, they've got a fairly decent chance of making it. much better anyway than the person who is constantly jumping around after not finding immediate success. best of luck

The truth is, if you had a dollar for every thread on Warrior that basically tells the same story as yours then you wouldn't have to worry about making a living online!

The same solutions to this conundrum apply as always just as they do in real life (offline)..

      1. Hard graft
      2. Focusing on goals
      3. Good planning
      4. Not being deterred in your objectives when periodic obstacles are placed on your path.

"Simple, right?" Hmmm.. I am sure you have read something similar a thousand times before (probably a thousand times in this thread already :p) but if you fail to understand, digest and live by those rules then you won't ever succeed and achieve your dreams.. Sad but true.

But you know all this already as you have read it a thousand times. Your choice now, is.. Do you want to read the solution a thousand times again or live by the solution?

My practical advice, (for what its worth) is this..
      1. Make a list of every online success you have ever had (no matter how small)
      2. Go through that list and write down why you thought each item was a success and what you did?
      3. Choose one strategy based on that info.
      4. Create a realistic goal (i.e. build a niche site and earn $3,000 from it with Amazon by next year)
      5. Create a clear plan of action (actual steps you need to take) to reach that goal.
      6. Create a clear and achievable daily schedule of work with small incremental goals for each day. (i.e create 3 reviews of dyson vacuum cleaners).
      7. Actually follow that work schedule like a mad man!
      8. Read point 7 and do it!!
      9. Read point 7 and 8 and really fu**ing DO IT!!! don't pretend or put it off.
      10. At the end of the week assess how you are doing on your plan of action.
      11. Adjust your plan of action if and when it is needed.
      12. Rinse, repeat until your fingers are bleeding and your head is ready to explode with excitement and sheer enthusiasm for what you are doing!
Then when all that is done, you can retire to your yacht on the Caribbean and just enjoy the fruits of your hard graft..

Winston Churchill, prime minister through the 39-45 war (I use the years as apparently there are some Americans who think it started in 41 ) was once booked to give an after dinner speech to Oxford University graduates so that they could maybe benefit from his life and experience.

When the moment came, he stood up, looked silently around the room at all of the students until he had created the necessary anticipation and then said:
"Never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, NEVER give up" and then sat back down again, his speech and advice complete.

Yeah, persistence and focus on one thing at a time is hard to do in the beginning, but it is the key. Try to find something you actually like and are motivated to do and stick to that. A great rule is do to other people as you would want them to do to you. Give others the type of value that you would want and that will help sell itself and build a following. All the best to you.

I know it can be really frustrating to persevere when you have no clear indications of success, but the important thing is to keep trying. You've mentioned that you have already made 2 sales on Clickbank - this puts you leagues ahead of 90% of the competition who try and never actually succeed.

What you need to do is find an actionable system that has been proven to work for other people, and then stick to it doggedly.

This could be something as simple as writing a Kindle eBook every week and then using it to build a list, through to building a full-blown eCommerce site.

You MUST be consistent and dedicated with one method in order to succeed!

It's not complicated & it doesn't matter If your an IMer or selling BMWs offline, you have to match the buyer with a relevant product. You already proved this with your 2 Clickbank sales. Nobody will buy unless they're interested (targeted traffic).

Master the targeted traffic & the money will follow.

    Hi Lamy,

Like what most people have said, try focusing on one sole strategy that has worked for you. I am a newbie myself and not a complete whiz kid unlike the guys on here, though I have learned to focus on one specific direction.

I honestly have some mad vision or should I say belief that internet marketing can AND will work. You just have to be motivated and never give up my friend.

In the bad times you often find the hole that you've been constantly falling into, courage and confidence my friend. You should just do it, not worry about it. Try focusing on one thing alone and work on it from there, something your passionate about and can help others. Most important rule is to help others, internet marketing is about making money. But its also about selling yourself as a friend and someone others will believe in to help them.

People will pay phenomenal, ridiculous amounts for a solution. But for the fair few like the guys on the Warrior Forums forum what I've seen. They don't give up and just need a kick and friendly pat sometimes to encourage them that they will succeed

So moral of this, forget about the small things and strive for the big don't give up buddy

I hear you talking. I have had more failures than successes. It gets old beating your head against the wall, following some WSO you got and not quite understanding part of it and so doing something wrong and it doesn't turn out as it is supposed to be.

Quitters never win and winners never quit. So you can't give up.

Just try to focus on one thing till you get it right and then expand. It will happen, just don't quit.

Yes, it can be very frustrating. I was in the same boat as you, trying and trying and trying and I didn't even make ONE sale!

But a while ago I joined another program that has actually started generating sales, and surprisingly it was probably the easiest one I tried. With this, if you get started, focus only on this, nothing else.

Everything will be set up for you (website, offers, autoresponder, squeezepage, etc.) and all you have to worry about is driving traffic to it. It's pretty easy, and free to get started, and starts working pretty fast too.. the content made for you is of very good quality.

Lamy, the main reason why you failed is here:

focus on money and work for money - you come to internet marketing with worker's mindset which says that you exchange your time efforts to money and keep exchanging - so it is job, not business. And I think you felt the pain that nobody cares about you, does't it?

If you want to run a business you need find a processes that cause results, not look for results, you was looking results, that is why you failed and will continue to fail.

I also think you did not track those several sales you made - that is another reason, because you lost the answer to question "why and where they bought that clickbak's stuff?"

you did not communicate with those buyers, that is third reason why they will not return back to purchase from you again. People online is real people, please understand it first.

Actually that varies for people. Some people are why people like myself and some people don't care about why, they just want a set of instructions.

I'm not sure which gurus you're talking about but the biggest IM gurus at the moment like Frank Kern & Jeff Walker are really good at what they do. But like everybody else their basics are the same Eugene Schwartz & co. stuff that's been rehashed million times. That doesn't make it any less valuable. The thing that makes today's "guru" is the ability to find your own twist, position yourself correctly and then ability to actually execute.

I'm willing to bet quite a lot of money that even you supposedly "know" everything that these "gurus" teach you haven't implemented even 5% of it. I know I haven't.

    @lamy - You need:

    1) LASER Focus
    2) The Right Mindset (or you will always FAIL)

What you are doing right now is bouncing around, from pillar to post, hoping something is going to stick. At present your mindset is 'out of whack' with what you want from your life. Your conscious mind wants it but your subconscious mind is sabotaging you and that's your problem.

Set your sights BIGGER than just making a wage. If you want to make a wage, you can do that in a regular 9-5 job.

The past is not your future. Forget about 2007, that's history. Now it's 2013 - focus on what actions you are going to take TODAY.. right now to change and get results. You already know a LOT more than you may think you do.

I still recommended people to build an attractive product base on a niche and build a email listing from it. Email list is still the most affordable way to generate long term profit.

I think your biggest problem is between your ears.

Without realizing it you've set yourself up for failure from day 1 just because of your mindset.

You've most likely been expecting to fail subconsciously and you've become what you've been thinking about most.

Get your mind right, and the success will follow.

I'm speaking from personal experience and not theory.

I've been making money at this for a long time - since 2005, and I've had 2 years of $100K or more in my own business.

However it wasn't until I got real clear on what I wanted and I focused on getting my mind right and using auto-suggestion that my business really took off and now I have had the best stretch I've ever had online.

So much so that I am 100% full time providing for my wife and 4 kids ages 7,6,4, and 2 on Long Island NY.

I'm talking just under $70K in my own business in the last 4 months... Not including what I used to get at my old job which i do not have anymore.

Download this, fill it out, and read it OUT LOUD every day when you wake up and even before you go to bed if you want and watch things start to change for the better.

    http://jdvideos.s3.amazonaws.com/Maj...e-Purpose.docx

The sad part is you probably won't do it - which is why you will continue to fail.

I hope you prove me wrong...

There are essentially 2 reasons why marketers fail. Some fall into one of these
      some both.

      1. They don't know what to do.

      2. They won't do what they know they have to do.

I currently fall into number 2, having seen my business go from rags to riches
and back to rags again. When directory based article marketing stopped working
because of Penguin and Panda, my traffic dried up and my sales stopped. I
went from making close to 10K a month to making $200 a month on a good
      month.

I know what I need to do. I won't do it because I won't spend the money that
I know I need to spend to get it done. So I'm trying alternatives that I know
have very little chance of working.

I'm not sure what category you fall in but I'm going to guess you simply don't
know how to run a business. It's that simple. You need an honest mentor
who will walk you through the steps. The problem there is that the mentor
himself is going to cost a boat load of money if he's worth his salt and then,
you're going to have to sink some serious cash into your business if you want
a real business. Or do you think Amazon runs on $20 a month.

When it gets bad enough that I have no choice but to get off my ass and
do what needs to be done to make money again, I probably will. The problem
is, right now I don't really need the money. Sometimes necessity is a great
motivator, which is how I built a successful business (at one time) to begin
      with.

      There is no magic bullet.

      1. Sell something that people will pay money for.
      2. Make a quality site to sell it from.
      3. Promote the site properly.

Number 3 is probably the hardest part for most people because they don't
have all their ducks in a row and can't risk throwing money into PPC or
whatever when they don't even know if they have an offer that converts.

Ultimately, you're the only one who can make you successful. If you've been
at it this long with no success, I'd say it's time to pack it in. The chances of
you having any success at this point are slim to none because you have the
wrong mindset, just like I do now. That's why I've essentially stopped marketing.

In short, some people are just not cut out to run their own business.

When I was a teenager, I used to play in a band with a couple of my friends. We tried recording an album ourselves. We spent months and months of late nights playing around with recording software we didn't understand. We weren't particularly good musicians, either, and we struggled to play in time, we struggled to stay in tune, and everything we recorded sounded terrible. We tweaked and tweaked and it only seemed to get worse. Finally we gave up.

A couple of years later, I went back to have a listen to what we had, and I suddenly spotted all these amateur errors we made, and identified simple fixes that would have made all the difference. We spent months recording what we did, but I bet we could do a better job now in a couple of days.

Sometimes you need a little space to clear your mind, and you need to look at yourself and your work with fresh eyes. You'll see things that you don't even realize you're missing.

Taking a break doesn't mean giving up. I highly recommend it. Try something different, focus your time and energy on something else for now.

    Good luck!

It's tough, but you have to think of it in a different light...Most of these people have been at it for 2-3 years before they really know what they are doing and make a great living. I would rather put in that work, and be at that point as opposed to working 9-5 for 40 years, getting laid off every now and then to take on a new job that may be even harder than internet marketing, wouldn't you? It's already been said but really you're spreading yourself too
    thin.

You need to work on ONE skill and develop that until it becomes
    a valuable asset.

When it comes down to it you tend to make money in proportion
to the value you deliver others.

If you've worked hard enough at one specific skill then it's a whole
lot easier to deliver genuine value and to get paid.

Stop jumping on the next new idea and just take the year or two
of real effort it will take to master ONE thing to a serious degree
of proficiency and you'll be amazed at how things open up for you.

    Kindest regards,

With everything being said above, I'll just give you the short story of what worked for me:

In the beginning 7-8 years ago, as most of the people, I chased every "shiny object' under the sun, tried all (affiliate, adsense, CPA, etc.) The only good thing from it all is that I've learned and got fairly good at all of it, but it took me years to start to play it on my strengths and that's to create my own info products, and use all other ways just as a support.

It was and is my way. I suggest you from the heart to find your strengths, your way, and things will be easier.

And, of course, don't give up!

Now if you want to fasttrack your success you can do what I did. Buy an already made sales funnel that is proven to convert and then just focus on getting traffic to it through may media buying or forum advertising etc. It works and If i can do it honestly anyone can.

I had some pretty good successes with IM over a number of projects. I'd guess I made about $100k since 2008.

However I also got fed up with a lot that IM had to offer. Too much BS and fire-fighting.

In parallel I was also learning about a totally different industry which is now really paying off for me. I'm at a point where I don't have to rely on IM and I must say it's a breath of fresh air!

Find something you are interested in and pursue that. You can still be your own boss but maybe in a more traditional business model?

Thanks for all the encouraging replies. I'm very motivated now.

I have a plan and I'm going to work my plan. Last week I was busy doing keyword research and I'm going to build a niche site on those keyword. Solely promoting the site till I see profit rolling in then rinse and repeat.

I'm also maintaining another site but that project have a longer time frame so I'm taking it slowly.

Since I have a day job and need time to take care of my baby girl (yes, I'm a loving father), I will be outsourcing the content creation out - that's my weakest area.

So I will update if I see more result.

    Thanks again and best regards,

      Good on you Lamy,
There is so much good advice on this thread. You can always return here to go over what members have advised. We are all different in the methods we choose to make it work, a lot of people are making incomes and some are not yet there. But for you it sounds like you have a plan so I hope it all goes well for you mate.

i have a little advice here as i have experienced what you did, learning from mistakes its very difficult , i have spent 3 years creating product, only sold 2 books, then had experience in something else for few months did $120 a month, now i am doing something, and i am

    1. finally found my passion niche that delivers value
    2. did a lot of planning
    3. learnt from my mistakes
    4. focusing on marketing - lots and lots of emails and enquiries and getting it out there

this is the business of marketing, no website will attract money, so you better be sure you know that. 90% marketing 10% product creation. dont let those who tell you its in product creation or list building fool you - yes those are important, and true, but they are just technical terms.

you have to hustle. good luck

I didn't know what I did to get the sales
You need to understand the fundamentals of selling, those two sales were likely down to luck. Track down a copy of "How To Win Customers" by Heinz M Goldmann, I got my copy from eBay for £1, it's probably the best investment I've ever made. Either that or track down a copy of Napoleon Hill's "How To Sell Your Way Through Life". Either of those will probably open your eyes to a new way of thinking that will switch on the light.

    Hi all,

It has been almost a year since i last wrote on this tread. Last year, I almost wanted to gave up on Internet marketing and have came here to seek advise from all you loving members. After getting all the great advise and I went on to focus on one niche site.

Progress was slow at first and I was unsure of what to do next. I went on reading some very informative blog about niche site building and how to get them to rank. I followed their method and I was getting pretty good result.

Now the site's main keyword is getting on page one of google and is generating sales. I am also concurrently building other niche site at the same time. I am now motivated and have derive a realistic plan to continue building my niche sites.

I want to thanks all those who have give me great advise here. I truly appreciate that.

For those who have not been able to make any money from Internet marketing, You should read this tread. The people here are amazing. The advise they give are gold. You should not give up. Find one area where it interest you and master it. For my case, it is niche site.

Hope you will have your little success soon like I did.

You can't imagine how happy I am for you. I am, right now, where you were, starting over after my old business tanked. Fortunately, I have the experience to know that it is quite possible to make good money online. It's the only thing that keeps me going.

So congrats. But don't make my mistakes. Keep up with the times. Make sure you know where things are headed. Go t IM News. It's a web site where you can read the latest developments.

And yes, keep expanding your income stream. Don't just rely on one thing. Once you have something in place that's generating an income for you, move on to duplicating it if possible.

If you're dedicated and really work at this, you can be very successful.

I would have to say, after reading your post that what you are doing wrong is that you do not put enough time in to learn what you are doing. You got 2 adsense accounts banned and you have no idea why? That's just laziness man. I have been with adsense for many years and have not even received a single warning. You have to know what you are doing in this business just as well as any other business. You can't open up a restaurant without any way to cook.

Remember this: It's easier to get people to separate from their information than their $$$.

You'll be more successful providing leads than making sales.

So maybe you should start with PPL or CPA.

What you need to remember is that you are in the lead generation business, or in other words, you need to get people to your offer, get them on your list to convert them into potential buyers later on…

It doesn’t matter what you are selling, be it make money online, weight loss shakes, etc…in order to makes sales you need leads, leads and leads!!!

So pick a hot converting offer - I prefer the make money online niche as there is a broad hungry market...then market daily...

If you are on a shoe string budget then start with free traffic generation, such as video marketing, forum marketing, blogging, FB marketing… etc.

Once you make a little money out of the gate, don’t go spending the money... instead re-invest the money into your business into paid traffic… if you didn't know paid traffic will scale your business a lot of much faster.

Remember... to make money you need to spend money!!!

If you want to create an amazing lifestyle for yourself and your family then you need to treat this like a real business and re-invest your profits.

    Another valuable tip is this...

The industry standard for every lead you have in your funnel will make you $1...

So if you want to make $10,000/ month then you need focus on getting 10,000 leads in your funnel by driving targeted traffic (be it free or paid).

Secondly, you need to nurture a relationship with the people in your funnel, create valuable content, teach them stuff, and send posts related to stuff they are struggling with online together with the stuff that you promote.

Don't just pitch... you're dealing with human beings not dollar bills...!!!

By adding value to peoples lives, the sales will come easy because you come across as a credible mentor...

When you get to a point that you are reinvesting a fraction of your profits, you can automate your business and you can go live the lifestyle you always dreamed of...

Work hard for the next 6 months, live the lifestyle of your dreams the rest of your life...

    To your success my friend

Umm... Yeah, I feel your pain. I've had the middle finger up to Google for a long time for that very reason. Google is "BAN" happy. They just like to ban people, its nothing new and they get a kick out of knowing that they are a billion dollar giant that will never stop generating thousands of dollars per minute. And as for clickbank? Well I'm done with those scammy good for nothins'.

I have wasted so much money with clickbank over the years its not even funny. I literally made three sales within a 4 year period working with clickbank. Then I found out that they were stealing my traffic and my commisions because when I would set up PPC campaigns I would then open up my clickbank account, check my analytics and keep refreshing the page to make sure I wasn't going crazy.

What I found made me very angry. I began getting "0" clicks to my affiliate link while my PPC campaign was functioning just fine. I stopped the campaign, copy and pasted the affiliate link again in the campaign and never received any traffic or conversions according to clickbank. I don't know what else to tell you.

Haven't you heard so many experienced marketers say stick to one thing? You couldn't make it in adsense, then you tried clickbank and then that didn't work now you are trying amazon. Why don't you just stick to one thing. I know this is a tough thing to listen to but some times we give up just as we are about to make it. This time when you are trying to break into Amazon, be disciplined.

Internet marketing takes a LOT of discipline, you must be willing to devote much more time to it than you would a 9-5. Many people start with Internet Marketing and believe simply because you are working from home that it is easier. Its not, in fact its harder. But the reward is much greater. Here's the rub though, if you put in the work you get the results. First, I would say, forget adsense. Google is too fickle to rely on. Affiliate marketing brings in more money. Also, if you have the time to invest, I recommend reading MOZ's beginners guild to SEO. This will help you understand why you were on page on of the SERPs but didn't get any sales (most likely low volume search term). Also, if you have more time to invest, try to think of something that you would want and learn how to build it. Make a product that solves a problem that you have then sell that solution to other. Or, create a service, but it must solve a real problem that others are having. You will make money if you stick to it, but you must be disciplined.

Hey there Lamy. One of the main mistakes that people make in Internet Marketing is trying to promote their company instead of themselves. People follow leaders and what qualities do leaders have? Conviction in what they do, consistency, courage, strength in adversity.

Now if you keep jumping from one thing to another because it didn't work out for you then you are failing the leadership test as people are always watching what you do. So what you need to do is find the one thing that you're passionate about and do it UNTIL, NO MATTER WHAT. People when then see your strength and consistency and you will get a following. No matter what happens to your company from then on will be irrelevent because whatever you join next, your team will too because they look up to you as a LEADER!

    I hope this helps.

Lamy, I have been there and done that. I bailed out for a while. Recently, before I came back in, I took the time to really think about what is really time-tested and proven successful and what I required of my new business.

This is what I decided: It had to be simple enough to teach someone else. It has to be something I build once and it continually generates residual income. It has to be duplicatable so I can create dozens of these sites. It has to be automated so it operates for months or years without maintenance. It has to fit in my budget. It needs to be easy enough for me to set up the first one in 1-2 months and additional sites can be outsourced.

For me, the only thing I could find was the basic sales funnel. I can sell my own product or a resale product. I chose to write my own, and that's where I am now.

In the meantime, I have severed all ties with older marketing emails, etc. and I restrict myself to only buying things important to the step I am currently taking action on. (I admit, I fell off the wagon a few times, but I am back on it again.)

FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS Only on what step you are on.

My suggestion is for you to take a month off, and I mean completely off from IM. Then, after the month is up, sit down with marker board and pen and NO INTERNET, and plot out what you want and how you want to get there. Then plot out the machine that will do it for you.

I'll be shot for telling you not to dream $10,000 in 6 months, but I quit dreaming about the dollars and instead about my progress and milestones.

For me, its 1) to write my first book. (Done) and 2) to set up the squeeze page (current project), 3) download page, and 4) autoresponder sequence with at least 21 emails. My first new site!!

Four mini-milestones, and one major accomplishment.

Then, I drive traffic. I plan to pay for that, so I am saving money for that purpose. During the initial traffic drive, I expect to fine tune it a bit.
Now I can relax. It is one stream of income, however small. It will continue.

Next, I do the same thing all over again. Only this time, everything will go along faster, and cheaper. I can use the same web host and autoresponder. So I will either do the second one myself or hire a VA depending on the income of the first product.

Once I get to the point, that the VAs can do all the work, I will focus on expanding in some other ways.

Now, each of these income streams covers my bill for something. One might only cover my monthly hosting bill. Another covers my autoresponder, and another, my netflix. I can host about 25 sites on one host and autoresponder, so my monthly fees are pretty easily met. 25 sites at an average of $2.00/month will cover them. (But I really expect a lot more.)

So, take some time off. Rest and relax and then think of your plan and whether you want to come back. Then, FOCUS.

    Best wishes.
    Buck

When I first tried started making money online l went down the road of building mini websites and getting them on page one of google and promoting products, l did make a little bit of money doing this but compared to the amount of hours l was putting in and the money l was receiving it just wasn't worth it.

The best way forward is creating subscribers list

Below is some advice l normally give to newbies
You may believe it is too expensive, I would like to let you know that you will not have to break the bank in order to set up your own internet business.

You might not be ready to quit your job and begin working for yourself without more stability, the advantage of starting an online business is you can start by doing this part time. You choose the hours.

A lot of newbie's will have high expectations of earning a lot of money fast from the internet. They have the mind-set of believing that success will come easy. This will usually not happen, and they will end up getting frustrated and quit.

Fail to take action. Surprisingly many people in Internet Marketing have the mind-set that they don't need to take massive action or work hard in order to succeed. You might not want to hear this but I'm going to have to tell you that there is NO magic button that is going to generate tons of cash. You can earn a lot of money from having your own internet business but you must be willing to put in the work to achieve this.

Newbie's keep buying product after product related to web marketing.(Looking for the magic button program) have you ever noticed that when you buy one product related to internet marketing, a few days later there always seems to be some "next big thing" that you absolutely MUST have... and then another one... The end result being failure.

Lamy what you are going through now and believing its a good idea to give it all up, l can assure you every successful internet marketer has thought the same more than once at some point within internet journey

To Lamy and all those reading this thread looking for answers and possibly some hope, all self-made successful folk have been where you are right now.

Even if you decide to bow out of internet marketing, don't ever give up on yourself. Self employment and running a business is not for everyone.

However if you still have some fire in your belly to make a good living online, the best advice I can give is to find a truly honest and successful mentor to coach you. You'll benefit massively from very specific one on one coaching to address all the areas where you may be continually going wrong.

Yes you can work through everything by painful and expensive trial and error following tidbits of advice from here and there, but why put yourself through such an agonizing process when someone could be taking you by the hand and showing you exactly what to do and how to avoid the pitfalls.

Finally, to help maintain a positive mindset, what works for me is a healthy diet, exercise and morning meditations!

If you see a thread where the last post is months or years ago - do NOT bump it by adding a comment and bumping that thread to the top of this section! You are asking questions of someone who is no longer here.

I'm beginning to believe FL needs to lock all threads that are more than a year old. From new people looking for places to post - to spammers looking to drop links - these old threads seem to be "bait". Of the first 4 threads I looked at today - 3 were from 2012-2013 - bumped for no reason except a comment or a spam link.

    Lamy,

The best analogy I can give you is working in the gym.

If you are going in the gym with knowledge from YouTube videos on how to exercise and then you hit your local KFC, you are not going to get results.

You're going to get tired or you're going to injure yourself.

The same applies in Internet Marketing.

It is not as easy or as simple as it initially seems. It requires a specific mindset and a set of skills to use in order to achieve any form of success.

There are few people who do, few people who are actually successful. And the reason why they are where they are is because:
    a) They are using the right methodology.
    b) They are investing enough effort in it.

This is how you earn money online. This is how you succeed in life. You find out what works and you do it enough until it works.

If you are not successful yet, it is because you are not doing one of the above.

The game is not biased against you. You are encountering the same difficulties as everyone else. While some people got the first strike advantage (entering the market when it was easier), in general, we're all going through the same challenge - no matter if you're trying to earn an online income, lose weight, learn a new foreign language, build self-esteem or even something more abstract like being a parent.

You can always quit. You can also look at what you're doing and tweak it. Maybe what you are doing is not right. Maybe a single element from your formula is screwing up your process. But IM is not rocket science.

    Razvan

PS: Just saw that this is a +1 year old post. I still stand on what I've wrote above, as other people may face the same challenges.
