I had originally wanted to market an MLM opportunity, but decided that would not be my best course of action as it was costing an enormous amount of money and was a very competitive field. I however, still decided I wanted to pursue internet marketing as a source of income.

I was advised by quite a few people to make a blog (and all that other stuff, add value, SEO, etc etc) however I'm not sure what I should begin to blog about? I understand this could take months to a year to gain traction, and I'm ready for that, however I'm not sure where to begin here!

Thank you!
Cullin

    Hi Cullen,
What are your interests? Hobbies, find out what other peoples problems are. Do a search on google see if there is any interest in topic. Look up the google adwords keyword tool to see how many times it is searched 60,000 per month would be good and not too much competition. Look at places like big dummies guide see if they have anything on the topic. Look at amazon and ebay to get ideas.
Just start to do something, start a blog you will learn so much by doing something.

I'm very interested in Technology and Video Gaming, however isn't the video gaming market kind of saturated by powerplayers like IGN?

Narrow it down to a certain type of gaming. RPG, FPS etc, or narrow it down further, world of warcraft, cod, battlfeild

    Hey Cullin,

I have some friendly advice... Blog about your passion. Reason being, is you'll never get bored of writing about it, and chances are you'll know quite a bit about your topic because its just that, (your passion). You will find that there are a bunch of people that like what you like, or be interested in what your interested in, and you will devise a group of followers. When you start your blog, make sure to have a newsletter, or something of the sort go out to people so you can start building a list. Building a list is the bread and butter of your new online business.

You definitely need to start this out right.

    1. Blog about your passion. ( I have to agree if your passion is something that has recurring problems, or people are in need of help, you could capitalize more on your blog)

    2. Build your e-mail list - Aweber, Getresponse are in my opinion 2 of the best auto-responders out there. There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube to get you started.

    3. Focus on social media marketing - Facebook, and twitter could be an extremely big door you could open depending on your friends on facebook and your twitter followers. ( Make sure you have share buttons on your blog)

    4. Use Wordpress or Joomla - Reason being, is that google puts more emphasis on blogs in regards to rankings, and those are the 2 best platforms to use that google gives kudo's to. You can get membership plugins and all sorts of cool plugins for wordpress that are user friendly, and you don't need to know a bunch of code. I personally use Wordpress. -This should get you started

Hope this helps out my friend!

    Cheers -

    Cody

Will these certain types of gaming even have audiences that want to spend money? For example: minecraft has an extremely large teenage audience, probably wouldn't pay in the long run (but would probably get traffic). Meanwhile COD has a very large adult/upper teens audience who have money but probably wouldn't spend it (what could I even offer? The majority of the people play online)

Thanks for the lengthy reply, Cody, I really appreciate it!

As I said above blogging about my passion (video games, technology) seems like it would be an uphill struggle, no? There are many strong powerplayers in that industry, I would have to be much better than them (and they have staffed writers and much more money..) video-gaming definitely seems better than technology, but it's tough to decide where to begin..

I wrote a Minecraft structure building guide for a client and it made quite a few sells. The demand for tutorials and walk-troughs for certain games is quite high.

One thing you could do is master a strategy game and then write a guide for that particular game. When it comes to competitive strategy games there are always people who are looking to improve their skills so that they can win competitions or just annihilate their friends. Think about it.

I started writing video game reviews for my personal blog a long time ago. In fact, it was the first website I ever made. I enjoyed writing reviews but eventually I grew tired of the website because the topic was too broad. I believe that if my website targeted one specific game it would have been much more successful.

        Good luck!

Cool! Glad to hear from someone who has had success with this!

Would a multi-purpose minecraft page be advisable? For example, something that has guides on building, tutorials on servers, but also sections to share videos as well? Or would that be far too broad?

You are most correct that it will take months and even up to a year to start seeing any results from your efforts. If you just do the build it and they will come process then you may have a lengthy period of time to see any results. If you do some link building you could speed that up some. If you do other forms of marketing with social media/videos/off-line you can even speed it more!

It seems the hard part for you right now is to pick a topic that you will stick with for the long haul.

    Good luck!

My problem thus far is that I have been putting my eggs in far too many baskets. I am eager to earn money like everyone else, however subconsciously I know the effort that it will take. I'm fairly well read, so I've been spending a ton of my time these past 2-3 months reading everything on this forum and in the War Room. Obviously I'm by no means an expert (as I am asking for all of your help today) however, I definitely believe I know what it takes.

You're correct in saying I'm having trouble picking a topic I will stick with, the most important part is that I want it to be something I'm dedicated to (not just another money-making attempt like I had tried in the past). I like video-games (minecraft, retro video-games, Grand Theft Auto especially). A years work could definitely burn me out without making a little bit of money, so I suppose I have to sit down and decide what my priorities are!
