Look for the top ranking pages for your keywords. What is their keyword density?

The accepted standard for keyword density is between 3% & 5% to get recognized by the search engines.

This rule applies to every page on your site. It also applies to not just one keyword, but also a set of keywords that relates to a different product or service.

I have heard this too but question whether it's accurate.

%5 seems very high to me. That's 1 in 20 words. A 400 word article would have the keyword 20 times! Too many imho.

%3 also seems very high to me. That's 1 in 33 words. A 400 word article would have the keyword 12 times! Still too many imho.

Hi... Nick is actually very right in most cases, I have noticed...

They say 3-5% is prime, but I have noticed that even
between 1-3% works actually quite well... try it out!

Everyone is going to have their own valid opinions on this one, however my thoughts are around about 4-6 %

Keyword density is vastly overrated imo. As long as you use your keyword naturally within your content you'll be fine, but there's no real evidence that there is a 'sweet spot' for keyword density that will increase your SERP.

  • Exactly 7% not 6.99 and not 7.01...

Okay now for reality. You can not calculate one variables importance to an alogrithum that is tweaked 450 times a year and contains an unknown number of factors and weighting. And that is just For Google. MSN Live is constantly changing and testing. And who knows what if anything Yahoo is doing. And some people actually use ASK.

Your writing needs to always be readable to humans. Incorporate your keywords naturally. And make sure you take care of other onsite factors... title tags, description, etc.

Then focus on what matters... and that is generating incoming links and not just for search engine purposes but links that pull in real visitors to your offer.

And obviously Google is not the only traffic generator.

I shoot for 2.8-3.2% but that's just my vote. As was noted above, check out your competition that ranks high. KWD won't move you from #300 to #1 on Google, but combined with other factors it won't hurt. I'd always rather bee a bit on the low side than the high side to be safe.

Keywords alone won't do much either. It's how they relate to the other words and phrases on your page. Hint: If your keyword phrase is "dog training" Google expects to see words and phrases related to that phrase on your site. If they aren't there, you site will look spammy to "G".

keyword density should be near 5% because if it is more than that than google will index it as a spam. So try to hit k.w density near 5% as much possible
