question about cookies

Say I send an offer to my list who has already seen the offer by another affiliate? But say they buy and I was the last person to send them to the offer. Who gets the commission? Me or the first person to send them to the offer? Thanks!

It depends on the affiliate program. With ClickBank, it's the last link they click on - it overrides any previous referrers. Other programs may have a lifetime cookie, or a cookie that last x number of days. Look at what you're promoting and read the terms as it's different according to the platform or network - or how the merchant has it set up.

Would you (or anyone) happen to know off hand what the terms might be for jvzoo and warrior plus? Those are the two programs I'm mainly trying to promote.

Sorry I'm still kinda new to all this. Does lifetime cookies mean the first affiliate to show a potential buyer the offer gets the commission if they ever buy, regardless of who else also shows them that offer?

You want to make sure you get the commissions. Then find affiliate platforms that let you make coupon codes.

I use hostgator for one, I have several coupon codes and still earn commissions off them. They enter the coupon code and I get the commissions.

I use avangate which is a better choice, I not only can make coupon codes I can give discounts up to my commissions. So I look for high percent commissions like 70 percent and offer a 40 to 50 percent off coupon code.

Want to even step it up further, look for lifetime recurring commissions with codes.

    Hope that helps you out.

But AFAIK you can only use your generated Avangate coupons together with your affiliate link. If a customer enters your unique Avangate coupon during the checkout, he won't get the discount and you won't get credited for the sale. They must follow your affiliate discount link.

I think this not a wise limitation. Customers should be able to enter your unique discount coupon you generated via Avangate, and Avangate should credit the affiliate commission to you.

I sent this feature request to them, let's see what happens.

Affiliate links depend on the cookie, but unique affiliate coupons don't. So even if the customer deletes his cookies, you will earn the commission. But this doesn't work on Avangate.
