Wordpress Plugin Encoding

Hi Warriors,

I am in the final stages of releasing an amazing wordpress plugin.

Before I go on, let me say that I have the greatest respect for everyone's personal thoughts regarding the legality of encoding a wordpress plugin. That being said, I have decided that I will encode my plugin.

Please help me understand the options available.

I am hoping there is a possibility that DOES NOT include server side scripting - ala ioncube.

    Thanks for the reply.

    I truly did not mean to be offensive in any way.

    It's just that I have read a number of threads here on WF regarding this issue, and many times, replies are more focused on providing an opinion on whether encoding or obsfucation is "good" for the community or "legal" based on GPL rather than actually answering the question of available methods or resources.

      I'm not one of those GPL/Stallman fanatics, but if you look at it from a self-interest perspective, I think encoding/obfuscating your plugin will kill a lot of your sales. This is because (1) a lot of Wordpress users are GPL/Stallman fanatics; (2) encoding raises a red flag for security-conscious people, who've seen encoding used in Wordpress plugins/themes to hide anything from sitewide backlinks to more malicious backdoors (even if they trust you, they may not trust your code and want to give it a skim).

      I don't know any good solutions off the top of my head. :/

        It is just not a chance we are willing to take at this point.
