How i went from having less than $200 in my bank to $15k in 5 months.

The last time I logged into the warrior forum I was making less than $150 a month online and mainly through book sales. I've had a few blogs that I had written over the course of 4 years and started to monetize but I never really made much money in internet marketing.

I learned how to live as cheap as possible and worked a bit along the way teaching Scuba Diving or trading video and blogging services along the way.

Then I met a few people here in Chiang Mai, Thailand that were actually successful. I had read the 4-hour workweek in 2008 and met tons of people who said they were living the lifestyle, but it wasn't until a few months ago that I really met people who were killing it and doing well. I strived to work hard, follow exactly what they suggested and for all of May, June and July I worked non-stop on my business. On July 25th, I made my first sale of $450 and since then my revenue has reached more than $62K.

My advice to everyone who is working towards replacing their 9-5 income is to meet people in person who are successful. Go to a co-working office space or travel to Saigon or Chiang Mai and meet real people. Ask them what they did and if it worked. Then once you have something that you know actually works, pour your heart and soul into building it.

Good luck to everyone out there. It took me a long time to figure it out, but now I'm able to live a very comfortable life, travel to wherever I want and I've even started a Travel Podcast in my spare time interviewing interesting entrepreneurs I've met while traveling.

    I hope these people are not the same who are conducting local seminars and ripping people's money out of their pocket..... I know it because there's a lot in here.. selling dreams. They charge $100 for every seminar. There are always around 500 attendees who listen to their dreams and ended-up scammed.

    If the business plan is well organized, no need to see that individual in person....

      I agree 100% with this - your business plan has to be set correctly. Sure, it doesn't hurt if you are surrounded by like-minded people who are motivated as you are. I think though that just a forum like this one or Facebook groups or similar 'meeting points' can have the same effect.

    I am not sure why I need to travel to Saigon or Chiang Mai. I went to warrior forum and found some amazing people. I currently don't make any money on internet. I started my journey to internet marketing literally YESTERDAY. I believe if you are willing to work hard and find the right mentors here, on this forum, you can succeed. May be I'll write my report from a Greek island in couple years.

    Besides this forum is full of successful people that people can communicate with from home.

    Actually being around people and feeling their energy is good obviously but why those places? I don't get that.

      I love the Warrior Forum and have made many friends online here but...

      I live in Chiang Mai and am originally from London, I've met a lot of very successful Internet Marketers here much more than in London. Probably because it is a smaller community of expats and the whole living abroad, risk taking ethos goes hand in hand with entrepreneurship.

      The difference is that you can meet up with guys who are making a living online face to face and this matters a lot when building relationships with people. That's why guys fly half way round the World to attend Warrior Events.

      If I hadn't have been living in Chiang Mai I would never have met the guy who mentors me and has enabled me to live out here.

    or was a purely online, like affiliate commissions, list building, product creation/software etc. ?

      Michael Levanduski - Yes great advice. I am working on continuing to grow the business and use the same techniques and system to build a second and third business in difference niches. I'm also trying to give back by blogging by helping people in the private forum for the course, my blog and my new podcast. I know how important it was for me to stay motivated and on the right track when I started.

      Stevie C - I definitely agree with you that being surrounded by like minded entrepreneurs who are making enough money online to travel is the reason why I'm living in Chiang Mai this winter. I hang out at the co-working office space called punspace, come by anytime and i'll love to grab a coffee or lunch.

      GaryCarlyle - The lifestyle in Chiang Mai is AWESOME, you can read about it on my blog or listen to me and my guests I interview, mostly other internet entrepreneurs who I met in Chiang Mai.     I've seen a lot of great informational blogs pop up recently written by online entrepreneurs that have embraced the 4 hour work week lifestyle. Many have actually been generous enough to go over the details of their approach to success. A common theme is how they've simplified their lifestyles while being location independent. Some fascinating business models to take in and there are lots of them out there to digest. Some good ones are like Sean Ogle, Suitcase Entrepreneur, Or Tropical MBA. Good food for thought!

      Last year, I was fighting my comfort zone by staying away from home for a month.

      I went to UK instead, because there I had to force myself to struggle and thankfully, I earn more than my usual monthly from online, and the best part, I learn so many things.

      This year, after read this post by our friend J, I decided to try Chiang Mai

      Just woke my wife up (it's 2 am here), disqus about this and she agreed.

      Somehow, Thailand not really married man- friendly, that's why I've to disqus this with my beloved wife.

      Going to book my flight tomorrow, and perhaps next week will go there

      What's up everyone, thanks for all of your support! There's a term called bootstrapping your business and I firmly believe it's the best way to get started.

      There is plenty of information online and tons of people on the forums but when it came down to it, what really helped me become successful wasn't more information, it was less distractions and a clear goal.

      The five things that helped me make money:

      1. Not have any responsibilities day to day - Eating out 21 meals a week, living out of a serviced apartment/hotel, never having to do laundry, cook, clean, etc etc.

      2. Having a co-working office to work out of. Great for focus, fast internet, and motivating people.

      3. Great weather - It's easy to be relaxed when it's sunny out. It's hard to be motivated when it's winter and grey.

      4. Being surrounded by other people who are actually successful and making more than $3,000 a month online, and not just talking or dreaming about it.

      5. Finding a system that actually works and following it without distraction.


      You don't have to follow my footsteps to become successful. But this is the way I did it, and it was the only thing that worked for me after almost 5 years of trying. If you look at my youtube videos from 2009-2010 you'll see me happily giving video tours of my $150 a month apartment and advice on how to live as cheap as possible. I had some great experiences during that time, but now that I'm 32 and want to be able to afford to live in more expensive places such as Europe and S. America, I'm glad that I'm finally making real money online.

    Congratulations, Johnny - an inspirational story. You are one of the few who make it through the mire!

    Well done to sticking at it for five years until you found a way through. So many people fall by the wayside because there are so many distractions online - as well as so many marketers trying to distract you from a quick buck! So it's a tough place to make a living.

    Well done again - and I'm envious that you are in a lovely warm climate. England may be a "green and pleasant land", but it's just started getting chilly as we head towards 3-4 months of winter!

    I've heard plenty of people who were struggling or not doing as well as they wanted. Then they either met up with people or joined a mastermind group and then things really started to click for them.

    I think the moral of the OP is to surround yourself with like minded people. A lot of people are surrounded by cynics or skeptics and it's tough to fully apply yourself in those situations.

    Additionally, when in a mastermind group or having people to bounce ideas off of, you also learn some strategies and principals that you might not have been aware off. The simplest things can really get your creative juices flowing.

    I echo the gratitude and sentiments that were shared. I am very happy that you have found your "place in the world" where you can shine.

    However, there is definitely a gap between HERE and THERE. "Here" being a specifical location that you are tied to because of responsibilities of family, finance, etc, and "There" being a place where you can generate income and be ultra-mobile.

    I want to get THERE. I want to travel and enjoy this beautiful planet of ours WHILE I am still able to be productive. I am happy that you have found your way, and would hope that you could give more specific action steps to help get me (and those like me) to where you are.

    I also agree that you have to FOCUS on one thing at a time. Rich Schefren teaches this very well. My problem was that I was all over the place too. Then accomplishing one step at time helped me build my business. Know what you REALLY want. Keep on keeping on! Great post!

    I'm making around $150 - $200 consistent per month right now.

    I have been dithering on whether or not to go Thailand where the IM'ers are, as I know that would rocket my knowledge and hopefully earnings big time!
    I wasn't thinking of going until I was hitting the $1000 mark though.

    It's a bit of a Catch 22 situation. I work full time so can only put in a handful of hours into my online adventure. Whereas if I worked in IM full time, my $1000 target will hit much faster, but the bills won't be paid.

    So, your advice for success is telling people to travel to Viet Nam and stumble around until they find someone successful who is willing to share what is working, lol? Wouldn't it be easier if you'd just tell people here in this thread what to do since you now know?

    Basically, you didn't tell anyone how to do anything.

    Why Saigon or Chiang Mai? They do not sound like the kind of places full of internet made millionaires? surely there is better places to meet successful people?
    Not sure about Saigon but CM and BKK are major internet marketing / online start up hubs. Tons of guys out here bootsrapping businesses or who are already super successful and making tons of money online.

    This is the perfect place for it. I love living in BKK. It has everything. It's warm, the internet is good, it's dirt cheap, can live way better than back in the West for less, nightlife is good, women are gorgeous, food is great, beer is cheap, easy to travel, hub of SE Asia etc etc.

    I don't think you necessarily need to come out and see people doing it to be successful but it can help seeing that other people are having success with it and doing what you want to do. Definitely a motivator.

    Really all you need to do is follow a proven business model that you know for a fact works and people are being successful with whether that's blogging and making money through affiliate sales, product creation launches, ecommerce, freelancing or whatever.

    Pick one that suits you and follow a proven path, don't try and re-invent the wheel or think you have to find some secret niche or idea that no one else has.

    Nice opening post though. Might motivate some people.
