Big mistake making too long domain name? HELP!

I have a domain for some years now and here is what I am worried about so I thought I would ask the forum what to do.

1) the domain name is too long.
It is ____ - _____ - ____ . com / _____
2) as you can see it is not just 3 words but it has hyphen "-" in between each word
3) it also has "/____" I am not sure what it is called when there is a forward slash after .com
So that is a total of 4 words.

Now why this mess? Well I was just starting out and I was confused with so many people saying so many things.

So I put the keyword in there with the hyphen. Just wish I hadn't gone for the dashes. I didn't know anything about buying aged domains at the time.

And the reason for the .com/___ is because of a horrible hosting company I was with. They messed up almost a year and long story short.

Now the domain _____ - _____ - ____.com just redirects to ____ - _____ - ____ . com / _____

The reason I have never started over was because it made me money many months and it has built me a list and it has good traffic despite all this confusion.

:confused:Also I have been building up solid backlinks for years to ____ - _____ - ____ . com / _____

It is all so confusing.

I have hundreds of long unique nicely written articles. I have put all my heart and soul into it. Hours upon hours. I learned all the basics through doing this site bit by bit.

What do you think I should do fellow experts? I need help.

Do I:

1) Start over. Scrap the whole thing and just start anew.

2) Save all the content and move it to a new aged domain with good PR

3) Just continue.

Or is there a better way to go about this? If it didn't make me money I would just let it expire when it expires because ultimately it is about returns. Forget all the emotional ties.

Please do let me know.

OR just start over with new domain.

I feel your anguish. But if it is still making you enough money to at least buy your breakfast, lunch and dinner then I wouldn't mess with it. You can always start a new site with a less complex domain and build that up to the point it surpasses the income you make off of your hypenated site. Then you'll be in a better frame of mind to let the site go if it still bothers you.

If it's making you money, then, by all means, keep it. You obviously have experience and knowledge with that niche/keyword group so I would consider procuring a new, better domain in the same niche, put any NEW, additional content on the new site and connect the two to one another. If there comes a day where the original site stops making money, then let it expire. OR If it's really bothering you that much, gather together your traffic and income stats and sell it.

You can buy a short domain name and forward it to your long domain name. In this way when your user type this short domain, it will automatically redirect them to long domain name.

I would do what Vishwa said . . . except in reverse.

I would get the new short name that you want . . . the brand name you plan to build for the future.

Then forward the traffic from the old long domain to the new one. Leave the old domain in place and continue to get traffic from it. Over time, you can let your old subscribers know about your new name and give them an incentive to want to bookmark the new site.

If I close down the old hyphenated website, how long after that can I reuse that old site's content please?

    Does anyone know? Safest bet?

I am thinking of starting over.

I guess I could just start new with my niche as I do know how to make money with that but to see the content go to waste is a crying shame.

I understand I could connect both sites, drive traffic, do all the wonderful suggestions (thanks again all!) but I want to just start over after taking it all in.

So how long after that can I reuse that old site's content please?Anyone?
