How Can I Monetize This Type of Crowd?

I have a stream of about 400-500 visitors per day. The problem is the traffic does not convert well at all for products.

This crowd is information hungry, but they want FREE information only it seems (I've tried selling different products at different prices that are targeted to their niche - but nothing is working well)

I've been trying to brainstorm ways to earn money with this stream of income.

Here's what I've been thinking...

I was actually thinking about setting something up where I offer "Free Coaching For Testimonials" and my back-story would be that I'm moving my offline business online and seeking to get solid testimonials by offering free coaching worth XXXX (and yes - I actually would provide this coaching since its second nature to me and I really do want to build a following)

The site would look very professional. I would then tell them this is only for serious individuals and ask them to send in a short application in which they pay a $2 application fee (I would say the $2 is a way to weed out serious applicants from tire kickers)

What do you guys think about that?

Any other suggestions are welcome!

It's hard to give detailed advice without more information. I understand if you don't want to reveal a good niche, but it will make a difference to the quality of the info you get here on the forum.

Yeah I may try that. It's funny, I actually tried selling them a great report for only $7 and my conversions were still like 1:250

Another thing I might try out, charge them $3 for a lifetime subscription to my exclusive newsletter (and provide some VERY high quality examples). Then I can continue to send them great info AS WELL AS promote some things to them :-)

Haha, this is a traffic source I really think I could make at least $200/day with (almost 90% of the traffic is absolutely unique each day) It's just a matter of being creative I guess.

It really is too bad that CPA networks shave so much on their email submits (I had 60 conversions on my count but only got paid for 1)

Give them a chapter of the report for free . If the information is good they will buy the rest of it .

If you want to do a membership site it is a lot easier to prove credibility through a series of emails than to expect someone just to accept you are an authority from reading a little sale copy .

I already know the quality of this traffic. It has quality and is targeted. I've tested things to learn of its quality as well as performed some tests to learn where they come from and such.

As for the copy, it's supposed to be pretty damn good. Once I go to PPC I will find out for sure though.

Also, I did get a score of 297 on that glypherus copywriting software (very good if that software if legit...which Im not sure)

      1. look at what your competition is selling/offering

      2. you have to split test, just because your sales copy isn't converting NOW, doesn't mean the product is no good, or that your visitors don't want your product. They may just not think they want it based on your sales copy.

I hope this doesn't sound too blunt but in my mind if it's not making sales it's not quality/targeted traffic, or the copy is no good (just like he said  )

If was quality and targeted it would be going to the correct/appropriate offer and thus sales would be happening.

If you're positive the traffic is matched well to to the appropriate offer then that leaves the sales copy.

If you can't make sales with 400-500 "quality/targeted" visitors now, why would you start throwing money at it via PPC?

FWIW when you go for 'cheap and/or free' you can easily end up with more of the same: Cheaps and freebie seekers who rarely spend money on that type of product/service...

if you don't know how to monetize them; just ask!

Do a survey to find a problem they have and then solve it

Hey, how about this one... Provide a survey, but make a contest out of it so they have even more reason to help you out...

What I'm thinking is that my sales process is not strong enough. I've been thinking about the traffic and I know they are information hungry. There is also a fair amount of others who capitalize off this traffic, so I really think it is a matter of continuing to split test and improve on it.

Start a membership site with your information and make it inexpensive, yet worth your time. Then give them lots of information in the membership site. Give them tons of information in the membership site and get testimonials from the first few to post on your website so others will see it is of value. Give them a trial membership for $5 or something so they can see the site is worth it. If you have 1000 people paying you $5, you receive $5000. Or offer a few a free 1st month membership for a testimonial you can use on the sales page. It is hard to say when we don't know the sales page or the niche, but hopefully some of this will help.

You said so yourself. I'm with Kathy on this.
Having traffic is not the point here, is it qualified traffic?
The "FREE" crowd is not a good market.

Yeah The Free And 'Cheap' Crowd Sucks... they're just after something for nothing. Pre Qual somehow and refine the traffic and visitors coming to your site.
